It feels good to learn.

A couple of days ago I was playing 5v5 customs with my Discord group, we invited a new guy to join us.

He was Plat 4

So I'm say "I want to lane against you". Me, being a Silver 5 scrub, expected to get absolutely smashed by him. But it would be a good learning experience. So we all finish choosing champs, and I chose Zed, because why not? He's fun, and it's just customs. He chose Ahri.

The laning phase wasn't too bad, he was definitely better at harassing than anyone I had faced. Did very well with zoning me off of his. I didn't feed him, but he started roaming like nothing I've ever saw. He went top and counter ganked our Broze Jungler, killing him in the river. Went bot and helped with a 4 man. SInce we didn't have very good vision I was always late getting to the fights that broke out from his roaming. He snowballed the other two lanes while leaving me not knowing where he went.

I would try my best to push in the wave and try and roam with him. He wasn't necessarily better mechanically than me, but his game knowledge was on a whole other level.

My problems lie in my game knowledge, what to do and when to do it. That's what I'm focusing on trying to improve this preseason, and maybe that will help push me into Gold next season. I can almost always win lane or at least draw a bunch of jungle attention, but after that I'm left with no clue how to close the game out, and secure the win. He singlehandedly won that one, snowballed every other lane to victory. That's what I need to learn how to do this preseason.

I'm good enough mechanically, my map awareness is decent enough, my attitude is usually good. All of that I can improve over time, with practice, but game knowledge Is something I need to be taught.

TL;DR Learning is good, you don't know everything, and you can always improve on something.

If any high Elo players would like to give me some tips on how to improve on what I've talked about above that would be awesome. Thanks guys!

Same here man, got versed up a plat 5 heimer that of course builded the weirdest build ever, what I really found helpful is 2 things. Keep an advantage for late game/mid game, warn teammates when you don't see your laner for more or less 10 seconds and if he's the farm type like my heimer dinger was like, keep up on his farm. I did all this as S2 Viktor mid and actually ended up winning lane and partially carrying the game. Went 14/2/5 with 340 cs. If anything I learned that as long as your teammates have map awareness themselves then you should be fine when it comes to mid roaming, if anything ward up River. 75g is a better loss than 300g and a fair bit of early exp.

In the last two days I've laned against a gold player three times and once had the pleasure of fighting a diamond player.

Seeing how they harass, control the wave, and combo their champion really does open my eyes, a bit more after the game because I'm usually getting my ass handed to me.

Though I did win most of these lanes because of the pressure my jungler gave, showing me how effective teamwork is.

Higher elo isn't a joke IMO. I consider myself stunned if I get away with not feeding them.
