How Many Autoattacks does a marksman need to reach the same damage a full mage rotation does?
5... its 5...
5... its 5...
People are gonna down vote you for this. I'll give you an up vote

Base MR on dummies is equal to base Armor, when base MR is always significantly lower on champions.
True but mages usually go for squishy targets, not tanks. so u can look at the scenario as a mage and an adc both found a squishy target to kill. IN which case they do about the same amount of burst.
Veigar typically has more AP due to his passive (not sure if you stacked it up but it doesn't seem like it, I remember testing earlier with 200 stacks and hitting 3k damage from a single combo), and his ult's execution damage is significantly lowered due to the dummy having 10k health.
Veigar was obviously a terrible choice to bring into this discussion. Double a typical mages ap and an execute ult, the data is not a good comparison for mages. Its like picking corki as an adc point of reference.
Annie has AoE damage and CC tied to her abilities. Instant CC, I might add. Ahri has mobility and CC tied to her abilities. She can quickly do that damage while going in, as you can see from my screenshot. She can then dash right back out, all within not much more than a second, if that.
Annie is shorter range then most adc's. Some adc's have the cc required to stop ahri in her tracks and kill her. Tristana is top tier right now because she out ranges u and kills you while knocking u back ( r). Mages can surprise blow up an adc but if the adc see's them coming then the adc usually can dodge at least 1 of the mages skill shots and kite back.
"How exactly is that fair?"
Um, because you're being dishonest and comparing apples to oranges here.
Mages specialize in AOE attacks. They don't attack a single person, and if they do, it's for a LOT more damage than that. If you want to compare single target damage with mages and marksmen, use
or
. Otherwise, bring in 5 champions. See how little damage Trist can pump out compared to Ahri and Annie. I guarantee you it won't be anything close.
there's also the fact that most mages have range and cc (and for some like orianna or viktor, personal shields)
annie dumping her full combo usually happens on a target that's cc'd the whole time.
Tristana doing that, well, she has no hardstuns tied to her kit which means you have full reign to zhonyas/flash/stoneplategloryomnomnom your way out of the fight.
you can flash ult a team as annie and win.
if you rocket jump towards 5 dudes as trist to start the fight you are going to die and probably get 4x reported.

Stattik gives you AOE damage once every like 5 seconds. Nice try.
Runaan's Hurricane is closer, but you can still only hit three targets, not 5. And the damage from Runaan's isn't really that much. It's 50% of your AD, and it can crit, but still. You have at least two item slots (Runaan's and Boots) that give you no AD at all. Runaan's is a good item, definitely, but only if you have time to output sustained damage. Mages will still far outdamage you.
I think the point is that even if an ADC doesn't have AOE in their kit they can buy it. ADC items cover up too many inherent weaknesses when compared to other classes and their items.
edit: I'm also looking through Riot's list of Marksman/ADC's and a lot of them have AOE abilities. They may not have the same power level as that of mages when it comes to the damage of those abilities, but let's not pretend that ADC's don't have AOE. The same goes for utility. They definitely have utility just not as strong as other classes.
You act like every spell that a mage throws will hit 5 champs.
We should be looking at optimal damage outputs. If Tristana gets to auto an enemy 5 times without being CC'd or having to kite or die, then the mage should be hitting as many champions as they can.
Here's the problem. Its rare as fk to hit 5 champs with one ability (with the exceptions like karthus). The most usual is to hit 2 and sometimes 3. Riot shouldnt balance champs with unrealistic expectations .
With a giant effect like Mega Inferno Bomb, Final Spark, Summon: Tibbers, Command: Shockwave, Chronoshift, Chum the Waters, or Crescendo, no it's not that rare. You just have to work together with your frontliners, time it with some good CC, you can easily catch 4 or 5 people with a giant heavy AOE attack. You have to be GOOD at mage, but you can do it.
Not complaining since I play mages, but it's kind of a stupid comparison. Auto attacks are just that, most of the time they are single target, purely for damage. The mages, while dealing the same damage in a full rotation, get utility in the form of CC, other effects, and oftentimes in an AoE fashion.

So youre saying a mages job is to be a support and not damage?
So youre saying a mages job is to be a support and not damage?
That's not what he said and you know it. Stop putting words in his mouth.
What he said is that average mages have a power budget that includes more utility and CC than the average ADC's (barring Ashe, of course). They also deal most, if not all of, their damage instantly. As in 2 or less seconds. An ADC is only getting off 5 attacks in 2 seconds if they have absolutely maximum attack speed. As in 2.5 attacks per second. Which gives no damage what so fucking ever.
Mages also deal damage in an AoE. AoE damage is generally less to a single person than single target damage, but it's usually more total. They're also generally more mobile, meaning more safety.
And Trist/Twitch can do it at 800 range teehee
Great! Now do it again, but this time in increments of 1500 gold. And measure the time it takes for the adc instead of number of autos, time is much more accurate and important (for example Tristana is super strong late because of her massive attack speed steroid, but that won't show here). And try several adcs.
tristana is super strong late game due to reset jump, increased range and attack speed steroid (which he didn't use because he didn't skill her up). soooooooooooooooo, its not like he increased the late game damage, its just the damage from items lol
A lot of mages can get a full rotation out in around a second An ADC can't autoattack 5 times in that same time frame
mages have cooldowns and mana costs adcs have around 2.0 attack speed late game with items sooooo
So? Mages damage is concentrated in a single time frame, what's your point?
comparing a 6 item adc to a 6 item mage is not the same. and a hypercarry to boot. adc are naturally going to be better than mages lategame so there's your balance, mages can 100-0 almost anyone with proper prep early to midgame while adc are stuck pelting away at whoever is near hoping they can be useful.
Not wanting to play Devil's Advocate here but I just want to point out that just because Tristana is a hypercarry doesn't make her autoattacks somehow stronger. She's a hyper-carry due to her kit (as every hyper-carry is), in which none of her abilities where upgraded. Her only "advantage" over other adcs in this situation would be her auto-attack range which has no effect on her damage, so literally any adc would do that damage in the same situation.
If he was playing Vayne with upgrades on his W then that argument could be made.
Also, it is kind of rediculous to have an ADC do as much damage as a Mage's full rotation in 5 seconds imo. 2.0+ att speed means they can put out as much damage as a mage in just over 2 seconds, which is often times the same (if not less) time it takes for a mage when incorporating cast-times and animations (think about how long it takes for Veigar's Comet to fall for instance).
The argument could be made that not only do ADC's have better DPS and similar burst qualities of a mages, but they also have access to better penetration/flexible build paths and aren't limited by situations to output damage. By that I mean that while Veigar often times has to wait for his stun to land, Ahri's charm, or some other cc to hit for their burst to be able to be output, adc's can just "pelt away at whoever is near" without any restrictions outside of "don't die".
except mages get good early games from skill based damage can stomp adc into the ground with their cc and do all that from a very safe distance while also scaling somewhat well lategame in some cases with tank killing potential also you can downvote me all you like it doesn't change the fact adc at 6 items outclassing mages after their damage falls off is the whole point, with expensive build paths, very little safety due to getting into danger range of any mage that can and will one shot them by sniffing in their direction just to do any damage, and in less general aoe to boot. a 6 item adc is not the same as a 6 item mage, fact. mages by nature fall off lategame with some several exceptions in dps mages, fact. mages and casters have a generally better early to mid than carries with fewer items, fact.
assuming that you were 100% right (which i am not saying you are), that would meant that a mage with 1-2 completed items should deal more damage with their full rotation than an adc does with their 5 auto attacks. We don't see that. We certainly don't see it consistently.
If the adc is supposed to be better LATE GAME, and and mages better EARLY, then why do we see the adc dominating games that are only 15-25 minutes long?
When someone try to say adc are weak early game , but adc are putting out of midlane almost every mage ( right now only safe picks, or users of lyandry rylai , and ahri , are viable).

Not quite. We no longer live in a world where ADC builds are cookie-cutter. If he played someone like Ezreal, Corki, Jhin, Quinn (is she still an ADC?), MF, or Lucian you wont see such high numbers for damage - they have less crit chance and in some cases no IE. Also, some ADCs dont build double-zeal items - meaning they dont crit as often and their attack speed is much lower. They wont hit 2.0AS with 80% crit chance like this Trist.

Want to know whats ridiculous? Trying to say a 6-item Veigar only does 1963 in total burst. The post is obviously pushing an agenda. A 1000 AP Veigar (which you should be close to in late game, 6 item situations) can do that much with his ult alone to a 1/2 health target. Or saying that Annie only does 2300 in her burst, when she can hit multiple enemies with 2/3 of that damage - if you land a 5-person Tibbers, you increased that to almost 7500 damage!

The argument can be made, but it isnt a good one. They dont have similar burst qualities of mages in terms of up-front DPS or AoE in most cases. Also, most of the times ADCs have less flexible builds - a mage can decide to rush a Zhonyas against a Zed but an ADC will be left helpless until they cant straight up fight toe-to-toe. It isnt really optimal for an ADC to rush a GA against a fed Assassin if they dont have their core items.
Plus, youre not mentioning range or CC, which can be just as valuable (if not more valuable) than raw damage.
I'm not saying ADCs are weak or anything like that, but the post is obviously pushing an agenda. "How is that fair"? Because different champions and different roles do different things in different parts of the game. Youre comparing mages to ADCs in a situation that heavily favors ADCs - lategame with 6 items comparing single-target DPS. Mages heavily win out at level 6, level 11, 1-2 item powerspikes, CC, and AoE. Also, ADCs are required to hit a target that entire time - a mage can blow their rotation and back off, giving less of a window where they are vulnerable. THATS why its fair.
You should do it at lvl 3, lvl 6 (1 item), lvl 11 (2 items), and 16 (3 items) as well.
until you realize that mages have AoE spells, utility like stuns / knockbacks, and zone control, while adc abilities are usually steroids / mobility or tank shredding. typically its a dps loss to even use an adc's abilities endgame unless its for survival or to increase your AA speed or dmg.
Wait, none of adc have AoE spells? None have utility, knockback or zone control? THEY HAVE! They have this all + aa that deal as much dmg as mages spells
AoE spells, utility like stuns / knockbacks, and zone control
lets see..
has everything
has everything with hurricane
has no hard cc but maybe the best zone control u can wish for aswell as the best aoe in the game
has everything if you want to count a snare

yeah, and they all share one thing in common, that they all die to Syndra R, Ori RW, Cass QE spam, Ahri EQ, the list goes on..
if that dummy was low hp i dont think the adc could top veigars damage...
Most of Veigar's Ultimate damage at low health is overkill
get on our level filthy mages hehe https://i.gyazo.com/e5778614a522b68ee4cacd25fe2509d1.png https://i.gyazo.com/cfe9d65fd43cbdfa0a64d9bd012268da.gif
i purposely didnt use any autoattacks with the mages or shot a spell more than once, since i wanted to see how much one full rotation does.
Very basic test that needs a LOT more testing. You need to consider gold, time frame, cast times, stats, everything. It would be a really interesting study to do actually and see how say Assassins, Marksmans, and Mages all line up in damage output.
it would be 4 if your first autoattack critted
Adc can do 5 autos in like max attack speed(trist) in 2 seconds. So...
After realising that trist didnt even upgrade a single ability (and therefore didnt use any - imagine the dmg with her bomb on top of this), its even more pathetic. Riot - defining the art of being stupid.
Thats with mortal reminder- a lot of marksmen im seeing just skip that item in exchange for more damage+lifesteal, making it so that it would actually be more like 3 autos.
5... its 5
Jhin players are getting triggered right now
Well there are cooldowns, mana and attack speed to consider.
If a mage misses all their skill shots, they're pretty much S.O.L for like the next 5-10 seconds. If a mage and an ADC have used all their skills and both mage and ADC are down to 500 HP, the ADC will usually always win with one or two auto attacks.
I thought stattik and rapidfire abilities didn't stack? Why would you buy both?
stattik shiv has its cooldown reduced from the rapid fire cannon, and gets the extended range as well, while still doing more damage and the lightning aoe , the combo gives a large amount of wave clear, burst and safety especially when mixed with warlords

Turret seiging, the passive crits for magic damage on turrets if you have BOTH equiped. Making Tristana even BETTER at knocking down these foam towers,
Late game
does what a fed burst mage should do with an entire rotation in two autoattacks.
Two? He can probably do it in one if he's ahead enough. 2.5k crit? Yes please
