The Thing they "Didn't Say" about Dynamic Q

What they did say:

"When we think of a fair match, It's literally the teams have equal chance of winning. So, if we match 5 solo against 5 premade, and they have an equal chance to win, we're comfortable with that."

Somewhat delusional, but "OK"Rammus

Here's where it gets interesting

"Our ability to find two teams that are right next to each other, um, you're not going to be able to do that all the time. So, then the second order is, Ok, well now we have to start matching, you know, a premade 5 with solos duos and trios. And basically the way we look at that is, you get some advantage of being with your friends, or you know premading. so we can offset the matchmaking to say, "ok you are going to be playing against slightly more skilled solos to balance that out"

Yeah...its hard to see but ill TLDR the shit out of it for you.

So, how do they "balance that out" i wonder?

TLDR

"We are going to fuck with your mmr for matchmaking purposes"

[zombie-brand-clap]

P.S. This is all based on the garbage rating system they created using the "elo" system designed for 1v1 competitions then modified for a 5v5 match and applied individually...which is now more than ever, crap. So they are taking a crap foundation and messing with it until it "looks good" ?????????????????????

The problems with using this strategy in the short term is that players who don't fit into the "solo" or "team" niches will have slightly more awkward and difficult games.

For example, someone may decide to play solo every once in a while when their friends are not on and mistakenly pick a very team-reliant main champion with an overly trusting mindset. Although their MMR is higher than their opponents, this handicap will make the game harder to win (not 50-50).

Vice versa, a team of usual solo players without any form of communication looking to have fun with each other will get matched up with harder-than-normal opponents. Again, not a 50-50 shot.

So from what I see, Riot wants individual players to consistently play only one of these styles, especially in ranked. This will, theoretically, allow their application of elo to work over the vast majority of players, however unorthodox it may be. Do you see any further flaws?

Plenty.

Real world applications of their system with their role selection is creating mismatches within your own team. I frequently have people on my team that literally dont know their ass from their elbow, and ask questions like "what are promos" and take warlords bloodlust on ap Karthus mid. Why? because the trio premade artificially fucked our collective mmr so in order to balance things out the bronze 2 on a random hot streak ends up playing against silver 3-4's.

Apparently Zed is more popular within Riot than we thought

We had those problems long before dynamic queue, just peruse the old forums and boards. Would you rather have it that we only played games within our particular division and do away with MMR?

agreed, but its negative effects are greatly exaggerated with dynamic Q. The Smurf issue is also exaggerated. I know they say "there are systems in place" to keep them out of my games and put them in "smurf ville" but every time i go on a win streak, the system thinks im a smurf and pits me against NOT with, high elo smurfs.

I get the challenge is good thing, but im not THAT good, i know im not, but i am silver good, maybe even gold good...and those 6 wins that got me into promos shouldnt punish me with facing the diamond smurf and his premade buddies. I know they are there because they apologize for smurfing in all chat with comments like "dont feel bad im a diamond smurf"

Well, of course you can't continue your win streak forever without bloating how the system rates you. That's why people can only sustain a ~55% win rate.

Also, unless they are purposely manipulating their games to stay in their league, coming across a smurf is very rare, at least in my experience. If they are as good as they claim to be, then they'll attain a winning streak so high you won't be matched with them after one game. If they are weighed down by teammates and stay in your division, then go for their weak links and they'll be unable to carry.

Nothing new here. They have done this for years already, they are just re-explaining it now.

Also people keep calling it an elo system, but Riot hasn't used elo in quite some time. Might want to read up a bit on how the current stuff works.
