Support Sion, new meta?

I've been having a lot of success w/ Support Sion. He has high base damage on his E and Q in addition to their strong cc. The Armor Shred on his E also helps win trades and all-ins.

Mid to late game it gets rough unless you are able to really stomp early on since Sion really likes a lot of tanky items. That being said, depending on team comp he still provides plenty of cc during fights and a good shout can provide a lot of damage for the rest of your team. Also (this is depending on who you are playing with) he can split push well to get lanes snowballing during games where things are intense.

Which is the biggest problem in playing him support, he's pretty item reliant. He can work very well in lane (unless you're up against Tristana. Her bombs destroy you as a support) but unless you and your carry outright stomp the lane, then Sion isn't going to do as well as the game goes on.

He's not a bad champion to use as a support (I've played him there a few times, love it!) but it is not the best place to use him.

I do like that I feel he creates an extremely unique poke lane. I feel he can spam his abilities much more than other poke supports while also being strong in all-in scenarios. In teamfights you can't be as yolo, but I do feel that proper use of his abilities will make him relevant in mid game as he starts to build up his items. He also has enough good scaling w/ dmg that you can picck up one and still put down pain on the carries.

I find "best" to be pretty subjective. It definitely has you adopt a different playstyle than what Sion naturally gravitates for, but I do feel it has a strong niche.

Sion is one of the most item dependent tanks in the game, even more so than Zac. Unless you're 100% sure you can win the matchup, you'll likely fall behind unless you're playing against idiots.

I find he is item dependent when it comes to wallowing around in the enemy team and absorbing all of their damage. Support Sion will be more pokey in the early game.

Around mid to late game you just need to be very precise with your engages, which is pretty fair given how oppressive he can make the early game and how much aoe CC he has in his kit (and high base dmgs)

It can work, but the reason you don't see it at higher levels often is more a matter of efficiency (and reliability).

That's why I'm saying it's a niche pick. Supp Sion can really help a team maximize on early pressure and teamfights in a way I feel that other supports cannot. He can also prove to be an extremely oppressive enemy for a more late-game scaling carry to deal with.
