Why are many mages as strong as assassins?

I don't really see how it makes sense that ranged champions like Lux Annie Syndra Viktor and many more, can burst just as fast or better than champs like Akali Zed Evelynn Talon , from such a distance. While these assassins are forced to fight right next to the enemy carry, which most likely has a companion with lots o cc and exhaust nearby.

Because if you catch a Lux Malzahar Orianna out of position they explode.

If you catch a Akali Leblanc Katarina Talon out of position they troll over a wall.

Because high damage isn't exclusive to one class? Arguing that assassins, and only assassins, are allowed access to high burst is exclusionary. Making only one class the premier damage dealer would stagnate the game immensely. As we saw with Marksmen that whined about being trod upon for the past 6 years, the game didn't change very much, or at least not radically. Now that we're seeing other strategies evolve without marksmen at the forefront, the game is finally shaking things up a bit.

Assassins have really good mobility with their burst and their burst involves combos with all of their abilities.

Most Mages have I high burst but they are immobile and their burst involves blowing their entire load at the start of the fight. After which it sort of becomes harder for them to maintain that high damage.

If Annie misses her ult in a team fight then she won't be much of a threat. Meanwhile an akali has high burst but can maintain that damage more frequently within a team fight.

In all honesty mages still heavily outclass assassins, maybe with the exception of Katarina and Leblanc . Assassins are basically worse versions of divers, and some of them have more burst than assassins. Also since almost all good junglers at the moment are divers you don't have a reason to pick assassins.

Because Annie, for example, doesn't have two blinks and untargetability, doesn't get on-demand spellshield and doesn't get to jam your wards.

If you want to play a mage that is just as strong as an assassin, play Ahri.

They hard engage on you, you charm them.

They try to take a minion, you Q them.

They want to run Ult and full burst combo them.

you get into some shit, Flash out.
