Can we make a 10 game rule?

A rule where you have to play a champion for 10 games in a normal que before you can play them in ranked?

That is a lot of busywork man. If you know how to Corki, it doesn't take 10 games to learn to Graves.

Thats why Nunu in his stats has high dificulty

Valtreous7 votes

That's actually not a bad idea.

Mek WTF7 votes

I think it's a good idea, but what if the one champion the person played 10 games with got banned? Just cancel out the match?

The Ellimiist3 votes

I would actually assume they would change the "16 owned championed required for rank" to "16 owned champions who you have played 10 games with"

Junkο3 votes

That would be dumb. 160 games is a terrible lot of games, sure for first time accounts it could be needed, but for smurfs it would be painful

Dishonored BLood4 votes

It would be bad, but it's the only way to make this system work. Therefore, I think this system would need to be altered. IMO 3 games is more than enough to learn a champion. That brings it down to much more manageable 48 games. And to be honest, I really don't think we should be making concessions for smurfs, as they aren't fair in ranked anyway.

Rock Rockburgh6 votes

A) We probably shouldn't be tailoring to the smurfs, since they make things so bad for new players.

B) 160 games is probably less than you'll play from 1-30.

Onegarion1 votes

Its actually more for the average player. It takes about 120-150 games to hit lvl 30.

Rock Rockburgh1 votes

Really? I thought it was somewhere around 300 on average. Someone further down the thread posted that you reach 30 in 365 games, assuming average 110 EXP per game. (No firstwin bonus for XP, so that's pretty reasonable, if not high.)

Onegarion1 votes

That is a REALLY high number. Those must be flooded with bot games. I played a lot of PVP when i started and I went from 1-30 in about a month so assuming I had 30 1st win bonuses. I was out of work at the time and was able to just play. I remember tracking it at about 130 games personally. Now maybe they have tweeked the numbers since I started almost 2 years ago, but thats how much it took me with no boosts. I'll say it again. Those have to include a lot of bot games or they must have just only lost.

Well, unless the person played 160 games from 1 to 30, there wouldn't be a problem lol

Rock Rockburgh1 votes

Do you balance the number of games you play with each champ, then? I mostly play Soraka, Nasus, and Lux. I've got about 20 Soraka games, 5 or so on Nasus, and maybe 3 on Lux.

The problem is if you are last pick and say need a jungler, with only 2 jungle champions that you have 10x games with, and one is banned and the other team picks your other choice (or both or banned). Then you are forced into suboptimal picks (i.e. having to pick a nontraditional jungler from your roster of available champions) or leave, with the associated LP loss due to dodging.

The Ellimiist3 votes

That same problem already exists if you only own 16 champs (the requirement for ranked). Changing it to 16 champs with 10 wins would be no different.

Onegarion1 votes

The difference is tho now you don't need to play 10 games on them so you are freed up a bit. It would constrict you more with having to play those 10 games in that case. At least now I can eve jungle even if I've never eve jungled. I can still fill the role my team needs if I have the champ since I'm probably going to bomb if I'm going eve jungle or Vlad jungle. It doesn't matter if you can't play them if they are not going to excel in the role given.

The Ellimiist1 votes

I think that more falls under communication than the main idea of this thread. For example I have had people say "I only own adc champs" and at that point its up to your team to let them adc or expect them to fill another role poorly.

Onegarion1 votes

Thats the general concept I was trying to convey, but never directly said. Assuming the Idea passes, just because someone plays 10 games with a champ doesn't mean they will be able to play them in other roles.

I've heard exactly what you were talking about from people before and it makes me a bit ticked. I get being good with one role, but you should always have at least the 450 champs to play for every role. Forcing this 10 game rule to play a champ won't change this mindset and will actually give them a bit more validation to playing this way as well since they "haven't played enough games with other roles."

GigglesO1 votes

{quoted}

since they "haven't played enough games with other roles."

They shouldn't be playing ranked then.

I understand people say ranked if for fun... but it is also for competition

Why would you want to set yourself up for failure?

Do you like to lose things?

Onegarion1 votes

but now its only champs you play with so you can't force them to come into ranked with 16 champs covering all roles. If I like adc thats what I'm going to play the most of. Mid is the same.

The Ellimiist1 votes

The main idea is to not have that guy who is missing every skillshot, blows his ult the first 3 times etc cuz he literally doesn't have enough experience even using the champions abilities. Maybe 10 games is too many and even 5 would be enough but its still a good idea imho.

Kingsgrave6 votes

That limits someone to 1000+ games in order to play every champion in ranked.

Good, either they don't play everyone in ranked, or they just pick who they want to play in ranked and play them.

I've been playing since 2011 and probably still haven't played half the champions more than twice ever. Really not as big of a deal as it sounds.

You nailed this right on the spot. After about 5 games most people know exactly if they are going to play them again.

Most people only have 3-4 champions that they spam games with anyways. This would remove a lot of toxic Rage out of games because of someone that didn't know how to play their champion feeding or just not knowing a good build path and ect...

QuantumLight4 votes

Just because youve played them 10 times doesnt mean that youll be good with them. i suck at lee and diana but ive still got 10+ games on them.

the third time i played teemo was in ranked, and i used him to demolish darius.
Banning would become easier yes, but counter picking would as well.

TeemoJenkins3 votes

I've always liked that idea. It would make ban lists smaller also.

so if you want to level up a new account now you need 200 games just to get 20 champions that you are allowed to play in ranked. doesn't it already take too long to level up an account?

i'd be more ok with 3-5 games. it doesn't take 10 games to learn a champion.

"Assuming an average XP gain to be about 110 XP per game, one can reach summoner level 30 within 365"

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Experience_%28summoner%29

It takes 300 games of pretty much straight winning on an account to level it up. If you can't play 20 champions 10 times each by time you reach 30, then you don't need to play ranked...

Onegarion1 votes

Honestly if a system like this existed I personally feel like we should get rid of lvls since they would essentially be rather pointless obstacles. If it takes more games to get 16 champs to 10 games each then it does to reach lvl 30 it seems as though it would make sense to just drop lvls and find a new system to work with.

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

the only reason that would be left to keep them is when you can access runes i guess, but that needs to be reworked anyway so i would agree.

Onegarion2 votes

I don't think you should be gated though with runes. I think its a very stupid way of doing things and doesn't help anyone when you are trying to experiment with them. Runes aren't something that is inherant to a new player. They don't really understand why you go Armor seals over health or which quints to pick. To me they need to completely revamp the runes anyway and let you have them all since most people don't really build towards rune pages until they are at least lvl 20 so unlocking them one at a time is just rather pointless.

iamthegoatofwar3 votes

I kinda...agree. It would help when those new champs come out and the 1st thing people do is rush into ranked with them.

Demonsolder212 votes

No. Due to the fact that a lot of champions don't have that big of a learning curve.

Quantum Weeb2 votes

I'd probably tone it down to five, some champions really don't take ten games to learn if you know other, very similar champions.

cFlame2 votes

Not ten games, thats just too much. But yeah, 3 games to unlock a champion in ranked would be fair. I wouldn't like it if someone decided just because there's a Leona they will play Alistar because 'ITS A COUNTER'. Or have a Fizz mid against a Lux, that'll go well.

I could agree if it is win 3 games in draft normals ibwas thinking 10 total played in team builder, blind pick, or draft.

The Ecdysiast1 votes

I think they should do what Smite has done, and require a certain amount of mastery with a character before you're allowed to choose them in ranked.

Sukishoo2 votes

and what they do with new champions and have them auto banned for a few weeks before they can come in.

Solaxo1 votes

bad idea, people would throw games and become really toxic in order to get these 10 games asap

Make it like ranked banned, make them win 4 games then.

And for everyone saying that they don't need to practice soraka because they know sona or w/e... well then you should win all 4 games in a row easy gg...

RogueWill1 votes

I don't play normals. It is so stressing to be my hands in the keyboard just to call a lane other than support, and even if you do it successfully someone might just autolock. I play drafted from time to time but the queue are normally much longer than if I just go to a ranked game. Making me go play 10 normal matches with every champ will be so tedious.

Why do you have to play 10 matches with every champion? Do you play every champion? Do you know how to play every champion?

RogueWill1 votes

Not everyone But I do play around 20-25 champs on a regular basis, those are the champs I'm more comfortable with. Besides that I have 10 or so that I know how to play but don't do it so often on ranked due to being anti meta or just plain under powered. That is my base pool that will translate in 200-250 normal games, that is assuming I get the lane needed to play such champ everytime on blinded (which is unlikely) so it will probably be more. Do I want to go and play that many games? No way.

I guess if I only played a single lane with 3 or 4 champions it wouldn't be so bad but 200 more normal games is a tad too much.

What makes you think they wouldn't be able to grand father in champions you've already played 10 games with?

I think Riot would probably do 6-7 games, but yeah, a game limit.

Almost anything would be better than "better try this champ out (in ranked) this game since I don't feel like playing any of my normal champions"

Onegarion1 votes

I'm not so much a fan of the 10 game rule, but Smite has a decent system that makes you play a certain about and wins before you can play a god in ranked

Next up in blind pick: "I pick Syndra top , idgaf about team comp, I need my 10 games".
