Got first pick went oriana mid, enemy laner chose pantheon. I could not deal with his spears and his passive made it hard for me to trade. So in short i got rekt , any advice on how to do better against him?

Sariat13 votes1: You have abilities with longer range than he does, and you have the benefit of buying a dorans ring, so you have much better mana regen than he does.
2: Take a defensive summoner spell like 
3: Freeze the lane in front of your own tower, Pantheon doesn't have good waveclear unless he gets ahead. This also makes the likelihood of him all-inning you lower and allows your jungler to gank easier.
4: Let him zone you off a couple of cs, It doesn't really matter because you will be much more useful in Teamfights and the lategame than he will be. Just don't let him get kills so he can snowball the lane.
5: For lategame mages, a build like 
first will do wonders for you against him. Then go into the rest of your build after the early game is done.
Note: these apply to the midlane matchup with the assumption that you are playing a mage.

In any case, if you're up against a Panth, here's what you need to do: Buy early armor and early life regen, taking a defensive summoner like barrier and heal is great to make sure you can survive his all-in. His spear chucking is painful, so you'll want to stay defensive. Use Orianna's shield to block incoming spears if you're quick enough, make him waste mana which is his most precious resource. Zone him, you have longer range. Stay below tower and watch when he's coming at you, when he's going to throw a spear or jump on you is obvious just back off when he does. Coordinate with your jungler, if you and your jungler are on the same page, picking up exhaust can net you easy kills as Pantheon has no escape. Bait him in, exhaust and team up with your jungler to squash him. Keep talking and make sure everyone knows when he is out of your sight, especially post-6.
Pantheon only works if he gets kills early. Your new primary goal is to not let him get kills. It's not to get fed yourself. It's not to maximize your CS (though truth be told if you can do both those things that's awesome). Hell it isn't even to save your tower. Your one and overriding concern is to make sure that Pantheon does not kill you and hopefully everyone else. Once he starts roaming around (which is bound to happen) you can start trying to catch up on farm, or follow him to continuously harass, whatever you think is best in the given situation.

Eedat1 votesYou survive the best you can. You are going to miss CS. You are going to get zoned. Buy lots of pots. You tell your team when he hits 6. You spam the hell out of MIA pings when he leaves. But just don't die. Get enough pots to save your tower.
Panth is an absolutely oppressive lane bully and there are only a handful of champs that hard counter him early. You have to wait for jungle assistance or wait to group where he falls off
Mr Carbon1 votesYou actually have the ability to zone him off quite well with command protect and dissonance.
Protect has enough shield to block spears damage, and dissonance will slow him enough to not allow him to walk up and stun you due to the small radius it has.
All In all, as soon as you hit 6/ can back for an early arm-guard, you smash the lane.
Your positioning in the lane is key, you have to apply lane pressure and force the wave to tower.
Whiteeye Avelyn1 votesI have found syndra to be really good vs panth mid, As for with ori or any mage in general you ARE going to have to farm with spells for about 5 levels, in my syndra game i used her q to poke him down when every he speared to kill a minion or was by a low hp minion and at 5 he dived me and i stunned him and killed him, when we got back to lane i was 6 and i just went all in and Q-W-Q-E-R-Q and he died, from there just snowball.

Pantheon is like an abusive parent. He'll dominate you in lane and make sure you don't get any cs. But you can ask for help. From your jungler, your midlaner. And once you hit 18, you can move out of top lane and he can't do anything to you anymore.
