This could be a great way to improve player behavior.

The best way to improve behavior globally isn't to punish, I mean I've seen as many toxic players in season 4 as we could see in season 2. I think the good way would be to improve the honor system, to the point that player who can keep a blue, green, yellow ribbon can get some sweet rewards. By example, some unique skin who are only obtainable or usable when you have one of these ribbon, also it could be extra IP like an x % on each game. Something that the majority of player would like to show to other as an accomplishment and be proud of. Right now you aren't even exited to see someone with a ribbon.

Having these kind of rewards for player who excel with there behavior, could incite the player base to have a better attitude. There is so much we can do with the honor system, yet it seen like it is ignored and nearly non existent.

(Edit: 11/11/2014)

So after seeing reading all your comment, I've come to an idea about how the honor system could be even greater. Firstly as a reminder, the reward we would get from ribbon are only obtainable and usable when you do have a ribbon, the moment you lose the ribbon you lose the right to use the skin and lose the extra ip per game. You can only gain +1 in Teamwork, helpful or friendly on your profile if you get 2x time the same honor in the same game, thus to remove as much as possible honor trading.

People in league of legend like to look people profile or there on profile, by example when you create a ranked team and seek member from the Team Recruitment section of the Board, you look the profile of every applier who enter your condition, to seek the one that you think suit the best the spot needed in your team. The moment you enter someone profile the thing that really stand out is is solo queue rank or ranked team rank, this is normal because league of legends is a competitive game. The mentality of the community is really fixed on how people perform or how they improve based only on the ranking in 3 v 3 team, 5 v 5 team and solo queue. Now the whole idea is to make it so Good behavior stand out as much as your rank in these 3 different queue type.

Now to make this stand out could be really simple, they could add a behavior indices on everyone profile and this indices would be base on how often you get reported by 2 player in any queue, 2 player just to remove the troll that would report you just because he doesn't like you by example. The indices could be a number from 1 to 10. 10 would be someone who never have been reported in is 200 last game, 9 someone who gotten reported by two player at most 2 time in is 200 last game, 8 would be 5 time, 7 would be 10 times, 6 would be 15...(Note these number could be changed I am just using them as an example) Now to gain a ribbon you need to have an indices of 8 or more with the according number of every kind of honor needed for the specific ribbon. So player who ask other to honor them every time they win a game, but are toxic every time they lose will not get any ribbon even if they manage to get a lot of honor when they win game. A player who manage to get a ribbon will gave it shown on is profile to as right on top of the ranked border in your profile. Now when someone want to check for applier for a competitive ranked team, when they'll look that player up on is profile they will see the indices from 1 to 10, and the ribbon if the player have it. If the player he check have a low indices he'll know that this player tend to rage or go on tilt at this point he told himself maybe it'll be hard to work with this player because he might refuse to adapt is play style for the team, on the other end if the player have a ribbon he'll definitely know that this player have really good behavior nor will most likely listen to criticism and adapt is play style if needed. Every thing here is supposition, the whole point is to make someone who manage to have a good behavior indices or even more a RIBBON! to be proud of it as well as getting sweet reward, reward as nice as you get from skill or game knowledge at the end of season from ranked queue. After a while the community would adapt itself toward these new objective and personal goal, people could try to aim for a behavior reward or they could aim for a ranked queue reward, or they could aim for both. A player with a ribbon could now become seek by player who make ranked team, because it would show that the player with a ribbon do have good sportsmen like attitude.

This is a great idea. INCENTIVES instead of randomly meted out PUNISHMENTS often related to people ganging up on a single player and making false reports and/or the automated and incredibly flawed LeaveBuster system which punishes players often for the bad behavior of Riot's own CLIENT. But as we have seen repeatedly RIOT greatly prefers to destroy players than to reward them or incentivize the game. Of course that changes when a player like say "IWillDominate" or "Svenkeren" can make them money, in which case all if forgiven.

i like the idea, but i don't know if using the honor system or giving people incentives to improve their behavior is the best idea. maybe if you get the rewards for giving others honor or not getting reported for X games. adding an incentive to positive behavior could be good, but what happens when there is no incentive? would people simply go back to being toxic once they get the reward? i'm not saying it's a bad idea, it definitely has potential to become something that might promote positive behavior, i just don't know if using the honor system is the best way. of course, the not getting reported for X games thing i mentioned has a huge flaw, trolls will simply report people for the sole purpose of denying that person the reward.

This would also give the honor system a reason to exist. I don't remember the last time I got more than one honor call a match, if any. Rewarding has always been better than punishing.

I agree with you. People abuse the report system like children yet the honor rewards are minimum or non existent

My only issue with this is that these rewards are hard to get considering how infrequently people actually honor others. I mean, I know I don't honor people unless they REALLY stick out to me, and I'm sure everyone's criteria is different. You have some good ideas, but it sure would be nice if there was a way to standardize the amount of honor that is given out.

Player behavior is not the problem. Riot doesn't understand basic human psychology as far as the game goes. First your placement is wholly dependent on a lottery. Your tier all depends on the 4 random people you get stuck with. They might all be good-great. Maybe only 1 or 2 are great. Or, you get stuck with 4 morons with whom it's a miracle they found a way to breathe through the night and eat in the morning.

You cannot expect people to be calm and collected when their placement in the game and their effort do not jive.

Placement should be based SOLELY on 1v1 basis. From there, w/l should take u up or down the ladders. But once you get placed low enough through no fault of your own, you are NOT coming out of that black hole. It is 99% certain you are never going to see the light of anything higher than Silver V much less IV.

Placement is so broken. I would argue that there are many Bronze players that would destroy Diamond tier players in many instances... But through this broken lottery system we will never know. It is illogical and the expectations of being calm and friendly in the hole that is Bronze is just plain insane.

how about we just starting ip banning all the negative nancys who try ot ruin the game

Grimspeake11/12/2014, 2:17:54 AM1 votes

or just make an unmodded chat where its anything goes and you can turn it on/off, that would definitely save everyone a lot from the headaches

would also allow me to start saying some of my jokes in chat rather then over Skype or curse w/o fear of being reported for a lolz

In its current state, adding in-game rewards to the honor system would likely not be such a good idea, as it would turn honor into a currency (e.g. "I'll honor you only if you promise to honor me" or literally buying honor from players with real-life money) and devalue its meaning. It would also not really provide any direct incentive to honor another player, since to you the effects would be exactly the same (you don't benefit from the potential IP boost you're giving to a teammate, nor are you likely to see it in effect).

While I'd definitely like to see a meaningful reward system for players with good behavior, it would have to be abuse-proof, as it would otherwise just backfire and make matters worse. Perhaps the honor initiative could work like the opposite of the report system: you'd receive a notification after a certain number of honors for being a particularly positive player, and after a certain number Riot checks your honors and decides whether or not to give you a reward, with rewards increasing with successive bonuses.

Why would people even bother to honor someone else, or if they are in a duo they could just honor their friend. There are some flaws needed to be worked out.
