Why can't you Mute Pings?

I agree that ping spam is annoying, but the are times when a person who is otherwise toxic may have a good reason to ping out a threat. Example:

A buddy of mine and I duo. He mains ADC, I go mid. He gets a support who's being overly aggressive against a Blitz/Lucian lane and he's getting pulled and dying. My buddy the ADC says something to the effect of "OMG this Sona gg." Not helpful. So I say to the Sona, "Hey Sona, you're fine, just try to stay back now, okay? I don't think you guys can win a fight without ganks anymore." Sona then says "I muted everyone sorry, I play better that way." I start hearing a bunch of "back" pings from the bot lane, because of course I do.

Two minutes later bot is pushed up and mid lane (Katarina) starts to roam bot. I ping missing and ping him out to bot lane so they know. Even if Sona hates my guts, the ping on the map is visible at the same time as the mid laner moves past my ward, so Sona sees Kat and moves back to tower.

This could not happen if ping mutes existed.

What we need is a way to report for genuine ping spamming.

LOL go to your sound settings and turn the volume down/mute it. You'll still see it on the screen but you won't be able to hear them anymore. How are you G1 and you didn't know this...?

I second this - you should have the ability to mute certain individual's pings on your team. Sometimes they are annoying with the person not even realizing that doing 3 pings for "on my way", "danger", "objective" etc... gets really annoying really fast.

The thing is that there are useful pings, even spammers generally use useful pings sometimes.

I hate the sound pings make. Are you sure we can't mute them ?? I though I had them muted. Like just the bright ping is good enough for me plus it appears in the chat as well.

Hate the sound of our G's I'm pretty sure I have em muted.
