I think the concept of a Water Mage have enough potential to be revisited one more time.

Not as a skin like Atlantean Syndra.

But rather, someone more offensive and less supporty like Nami is.

For one thing, water effects are so preeeeetty. Secondly, there's just so much you can do with a compound that is commonly associated with how easy it is to find in all 3 states.

Imagine a water manipulator whose kit involves using a set amount of water and performing gaseous, liquid, or solid ice attacks. Or use water to somehow drown an opponent in the Summoner's Rift.

Water, ice, and steam are so different. Would be tough to make a champion that has qualities of all three. When I think of a water mage, I think of a mobile champ that can flow through. No sudden dashes, but the ability to smoothly move in and out.

Elemon1 votes

Like... A mage that doesn't have dashes or anything, but still has high mobility in the form of constant speed and tenacity... It would add mobility and (if done well) keep the mage relevant without adding to the mobility creep... Probably a little tankish and relies on combos, but, if played well, is extremely difficult to stop... Maybe something like that...

Couldn't agree more. I love Nami and Atlantean Syndra and would adore another water mage. Preferably one quite a bit more aggressive than Nami.

If I was to design one I'd base it primarily on the villain of the Cardcaptor Sakura movie. An ultimate where you trap your enemy in a water spout would be incredible.

.... lissandra? inb4 ice mage. ice is frozen water. so techincally she has dominion over water too as it is the same thing, just cold.

Except ice effects are faaaar simpler than water effects. A lot less of a spectacle and a lot less versatile.

All ice is water. But not all water is ice.

Is dry ice water? .-.

No...you're thinking of Carbon Dioxide. Only thing it has in common with water are the oxygen.

Q: Water Bolt. Hits an enemy in an aoe.

W: Flash freeze. Freezes any enemies in Q's aoe.

E: Frost trail. Either can be like kogmaws E or trundles ice land. Stats are either boosted or ms boosted not both.

R: Deluge. Global effect. All enemies are slowed by a percent. AS slowed by a percent. This move should eat up a lot of mana per second to balance.

Seems a lot like if Anivia had a global ult.

Atlantean syndra feels weird, I feel like im throwing droplets of goo around instead of water.

Anyways, the skin itself looks amazing for a default Water mage.

Nami's abilities, especially her ultimate is what I hope our water mage could have :) I've always fantasized about Nami's ultimate on a Carry's kit.

Anivia is a water mage

Brand is a light mage.

Nocturne was the first black champion.

I'd like for a swamp creature that also uses water like in Avatar. It wouldn't be 'pure' water mage, but they could do a lot with the theme.

Lower damage for all this

Passive. Flow can move through units and moves faster on water. River/Quagmire/Rain

Q: Geyser, water burst from underneath. Center takes more more damage

W: Quick Steam, Quickly turn Quagmire/Rain into steam dealing damage and ending the effect. Deals double damage if used with both spells active

E: Quagmire, Floods the lands and slows enemies

R: Rain, AoE spell slows enemy team stacks with quagmire

She's a scary CC mage but it comes at the cost of damage, she only has two damage spells she wouldn't be able to farm efficiently.

In a team fight combing Rain and Quagmire would put the fight largely in your favor and then you can finish them off with a Quick steam.

Combo would be E/Q/W or E/aa/R/Q/aa/Q/W

I'll try to think of a good/cool mid lane water mage when I get out of this game

BattleBalladeer1 votes

I'd suggest something along the lines of the Warcraft 3 Archmage with that water elemental spell, but the problem is that Malzahar already has a pseudopermanent pet following him around very reminiscent to the elemental just without any control over his pet.

Riot did mention they experimented with the idea of Reksai's ultimate giving mass transportation but then said they might do that with a different champ in the future. An Archmage knockoff in a WC3 inspired game genre would actually fit very well. The classic hero's kit actually looks perfect for a support/midlane zoner mage. In my opinion hes a definitive water mage.

5G8Nri0B541 votes

A Mass-Teleportation kinda shpiel kinda wastes the concept of a water mage. Plus it's more fitting of a Support than an AP mid.

Probably some sort of...portal-esque champion whose other abilities involve summoning warp portals for allies to use to get around easily.

I've always thought a cool Water-mage concept would be someone who functioned as a kind of foil for Nami. Where she uses water in a support-oriented manner (to lock up enemies and assist teammates), another mage would use water as a more aggressive, overwhelming force (this maelstroms, storms in the ocean, etc).

I think the whole Water-mage concept also opens a nice amount of room for tying all the ocean-based champions' (Fizz, Nami, Nautilus, maybe even the pirates) lore together.

Is slightly more powerful when in river?

5G8Nri0B541 votes

Unless she has the ability to extend the river up to a base or produce bodies of water as well, this concept is likely impossible to pull off.

im thinking more an elementalist from GW2, R switches elements (make it 2 elements so its more user friendly) a mage that uses water to heal (or dmg) then switches to another element, lets say earth (pick another one) that does the opposite of the previous element it would be like a more solid version of nidalee, but both elements are ranged, and 1 element is filled with offensive power meanhile the other one is filled with defensive power

5G8Nri0B541 votes

I was thinking of moving water away from healing with this concept. Again, less supporty and more AP middy.

NoFunWithNunu1 votes

It can be in the way water is your offensive from and the 2nd element works as defensive

5G8Nri0B541 votes

Or alternatively...have both champions :/

Rather Riot create a fully fledged water mage rather than one with just 1-2 water abilities. I can see an elementalist happening too, although Riot may use the Invoker argument of "it'll scare away noobs cuz knowledge scary"

Elemon1 votes

Water mages are great... I've actually created a champion concept of this myself a while back... If I recall correctly, it had Q, W, and E as support-mage-ish moves that used water for pretty good 1v1 capabilities, but R caused him to temporarily power up to ice, which dealt more damage and made his attacks AoE... I've also worked on a water assassin, among other things...
