Silence Mechanics

Can anyone help to explain why silence works in different way on different champions and their abilities? If you silence Nunu in his ult, the ult gets cut short. If you cast silence on Vi during her charge, it stops.

But if you silence Karthus while his E is active, it doesn't dissipate. And supposedly if you silence Anivia while her ult is out, her ult doesn't go away.

I understand to a point that the abilities that are being canceled are ones that have a type of channeling to it before it can be used (like with Vi and Nunu ). So then I would assume that if I were to silence Karthus while his E is active that it won't go away because it is an active ability and not a type of channel ability.

So do I just have the wrong concept of silencing in this game? From what it seems, silencing just prevents the user from activating abilities. If that were the case, shouldn't abilities like Vi's charge continue going until the timer runs out or until the silence runs out and the user could still cast her charge a second time to get it off? Or with Nunu's ult, the silence could just run out if applied early and he's be able to get a cast off at the tail end of the channel. Unless silence cancels the channel to prevent that last minute chance of recasting the ability to get it off.

I'm not sure, just something I'd like some help clarifying.

It only cancels Channels, and spellcasting, doesnt cancel spells already casted Such as Anivia ult.

Nunu's ultimate and Vi's Q are both channels, during which the champion does nothing but cast the ability, and channels are typically interrupted by silences. By contrast, Anivia's ult and Karthus's E are toggles, and do not require the player to be continuously casting while they're active, which is why toggles are typically not interrupted by silences. Anivia's ult is actually unique in that it is interrupted by silences and ability-disrupting crowd control, so silencing her should stop it. I agree that there's a certain lack of consistency to the rules, though, particularly when you have more special cases with Aurelion Sol, whose always-on passive is also disabled by silences.

Really didn't the repeated info that I already stated above, a simple "your assumptions are correct" or "wrong" would have sufficed, but thank you for going into the details.

It would be nice if they came out with an info page or something on the specifics of how different buffs and debuffs effect champs/abilities.

The LoL wiki has extensive documentation on how different buffs, debuffs and crowd control effects interact with champions, as well as specific abilities, if you're interested. Riot's official resources tend to not be the best at providing detailed information on League.
