The next meta?

Someone told me that the meta evolves with new champions and new items and gameplay buffs/nerfs. What do you think the next meta would be, why, how would it happen, and when? If you wanted to create your own new meta, what would it be?

With pick junglers like Evelynn, Rengar, Kha'Zix, Lee sin or Elise getting forever nerfed and mid-game bruisers getting screwed over, the natural evolution is S2 late game turtling style. One of the reason that we don't see Renekton anymore, but we see Dr. Mundo and Ryze more than ever is because it takes an insane amount of skills and efforts to manage to close a game before they become big. I'm fairly confident that at world we'll have 2 main metas :

#1. Late game monsters

You'll either have the little ball of death variation with something like "Lulu - Nunu - Zilean - Tristana - Janna", which basically gives 25k in stats to your ADC and so many shields/heals that she's basically unkillable, or the CLG.EU "Dr. Mundo - Kha'Zix - Xerath - Kog'Maw - Braum", which is focused more around having 1 major threat with 1 long rage wave clearer and basically siege for millenaries.

#2. Mid game pubstomp

If you feel like you're much better than the other team, you also have the option to run a mid-game comp, with things like "Trundle - Nunu - Zed - Corki - Thresh", where your goal is simply to brute force things mid game.

What could end up being the #1 succesfu lteam could maybe be something inbtween, maybe something like "Trundle - Kha'Zix - Syndra - Corki - Braum", where your team goal is to get ahead early and keep ahead, but later on you also have syndra's poke + Kha'Zix' damage to be able to offset Corki's lesser scaling. Also, even if Kha goes mostly damage items, you'll end up with Braum+Trundle as a front line.

While my hope would be for a return to the old bruiser meta, particularly since most of what made it so broken is no longer around, there is far too much mobility for that. I guess I would have to say I'd be happy with any meta that doesn't allow one role to snowball out of control every single game... I'm not even sure there was a meta like that before.

The meta doesnt evolve, it sllightly changes in champons that are favored for a role.

I dont think the meta will ever truly change, just some roles will get a power spike that will decay and stuff like that. Ranged ad carries with a steroid or two and ad scaling poke spells were so consistent in these 3 seasons that they became a privileged type of carry- marksmen. And now Riot themselves enforces the meta by support items that surgically attach supports to their ADC's and designing champions for specific roles(Braum will never be anything but a support).

My favourite meta would be where there are more lane setups than the standard 1-1-2bot(like a trilane or inverted 2-1-1). Where roaming supports can actually happen and melee's actually can get to lane with a support( I'd really like to play support with Janna and Fiora as my ad).

The current meta is quite diverse but it doesn't matter as long as all champions aren't comparable. We will continue to see a cycle of things that have come before - Lategame/Safe, Assassins/Dive, AoE/Poke, Double AP, Double AD, Kite/Peel.

The only thing that will change is the current list of OPs.

As I said in a thread earlier today, even in a state of perfect balance some champions will be valued higher than others just due to the nature of their kit and this naturally results is better/optimal picks depending on the type of comp people like running at the time.

If any meta should be created, it should be one where you could genuinely pick anybody because every champion had comparably equal amount of tools. Even if this were to happen, it won't be for years to come.

I think the meta will change slightly with Azir. I haven't actually seen him yet, but I've read his abilities and those are game-changing powers. I suspect he'll be perma-banned for awhile. Permaban may mean the meta doesn't change much, but I think a few more champs will have to be released for the meta to have an noticeable changes beyond permaban and Ziggs mid against Azir.

Still waitin' on Ao Shin. Can't wait to see what he'll do to the game. :) The dragon's gonna change the meta cuz... dragon! :P

Seriously though, I think Riot wants the game to be faster-paced and always risky (Sona butchering case-in-point.) If that's the case, the current type of meta won't change much -just new champions that do what the current ones do, but better. We probably won't see a change 'till maybe late S5 or S6. I suspect the meta will become more tactical from that point as that seems like a natural evolution from the current meta to me.
