Thoughts on Varus

Spicy Rice··2 votes·757 views

After playing a few games with varus, and losing every single one to almost every other adc, I've begun to wonder if varus is just a really bad adc kit wise, and if he might need some buffs. (Mostly along the lines of a better passive, lower cd on his q, and movespeed buffs)

Thought/Ideas?

Varus has clear strengths and weaknesses, so that's good.

The main problem with him is that he doesn't get enough goodness in other areas to justify his lack of mobility. If you look at the immobile carries, they need either facemelting damage or insane utility effects, and Varus doesn't really do either of those things.

I'd love to see Blighted Quiver become his passive, as his current one is pretty meh, and then give him a W active with some utility effect.

Yeah, I agree with Puffin.

There's no reason to play Varus over other high damage poke ADCs like Sivir or Graves. It really is his AS passive that screws him over. I wonder if he'd be a strong pick if it was changed to an active passive or Jinx style passive.

Riot could adjust his passive so that part of the AS you gain from kills is actually gained on hit.

Or swap Blighted Quiver's proc to his passive, and make W about the on hit damage with an active AS boost.

Just thoughts.

I actually main Varus. He's the very first champion ever bought and I play him a lot in ranked. And you're absolutely right. He'll always be my #1 ADC despite his lack of mobility, but your positioning with him seriously needs to be on-point 100% of the time otherwise you'll get wrecked by anyone that can get close to you. Along with the possibility of rolling AP or AD. - He definitely takes some skill to play since his abilities are skill shots and he's extremely mana hungry, and has no escapes besides flash or blowing his ultimate away to escape. (Assuming you don't miss)

However a fed Varus with a skilled player is possibly one of the scariest things ever. He can solo baron, hard CC assassins and wreck their faces, AOE CC, and fairly decent poke potential (Caitlyn still can out-poke him). He can also absolutely shred tanks fast with his passive. - However since Riot has really been focusing on champs with mobility/gap-closers, Varus has definitely fallen down the popularity ladder besides the handful of other people that main him and know how to deal with those champs.

Sivir Hard-Counters him real bad, any lane match-up with her is gonna SUCK.

But about buffs for him, I'd love to see either: Mana-Regen, Run Speed Increase, Higher Range, a better passive. Besides the VERY MINUSCULE Mana Regen they gave him in 4.20 (Which is very unnoticeable BTW RIOT) I definitely think he needs a PROPER re-working to keep him relevant.

{quoted} He can solo baron,

You lost me. That's not possible, unless you have no defense item. (Guardians angel or Randuins Omen to escape.) Iv'e made a thread talking about how ALL utility marksmen could be buffed without straight numbers, or giving them mobility in they're kit. This boards thread talks about how they're itemization is a serious let down for them compared to other marksmen. If anyone cares for utility marksmen please go here: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/lB1AyQIE-utility-dependent-burst-item-for-marksmen

i have to agree with this... unless you spend an extreme amount of time on him, he isnt really practical in the current meta. went 4-0 in lane cause my sup was awsome, but still lost cause i hadnt played 30+ games with him.

Id like either more mobility or some cc like a slow to help him. you could make his w his passive, then make his w something along the lines of ashe's q.

He needs some more oomph mid to late game.

Proc'ing his attack speed steroid for detonating 3 stack blight is not a bad idea. Or maybe very high AD or attack speed scaling would help make up for a lack of an on demand steroid. Because he has no mobility and his ultimate is hard countered by crucible the same way Ashe is... he's too counterable in competitive and not rewarding enough for average players considering his weaknesses.

The other direction is to make him an oppressive lane bully.
