For those who hate the Windwall, what would you do for Yasuo instead?

Probably leave him in a very gutted state. That's my prediction.

I'd definitely make it useless against ults. It is a bad joke how a lvl 1 ability from a base kit can potentially block all enemy ultimates at once. Probably remove its defense against autos as well. Shorten its cooldown significantly and halve the time it lasts.

Sivir, Nocturne, and Morgana Spell shields say hi.

Don’t throw your ult when you know he still has windwall. It’s that easy.

It's always an awkward moment when a moderator is wrong. Those spell shields you are mentioning block one ability... Like the response said windwall can block multiple abilities at once and all autos it doesn't break after one thing slams into it... On top of that by the time it's done the fights over so waiting it out is rarely an option.

Edit. Besides morg who obviously needs a ton of AP to make her shield block more damage and on top of that only spell damage not any physical abilities yet another drawback compared to windwall.

I think they were implying a level 1 basic ability can block an ult?

morg blocks spell damage but she still blocks effects from physical damage ults.

Not effects, CC. Black shield makes you immune to CC while its up.

LordGeovanni4 votes

It makes you immune to enemy spell effects CC is an enemy spell effect. bards stasis is a spell effect not cc but it will still ignore it.

... And yet teemo poison is still applied, brands burn is still applied, liandries is still applied. Bards stasis is considered hard CC as well.

ACTIVE: Morgana shields the target allied champion for up to 5 seconds, absorbing magic damage and rendering her target immune to all crowd control while the shield holds.

As i said, it is not spell effects. It is CC.

Terozu1 votes

No, only crowd control.

Anything Tenacity effects + displacements.

Sirsir1 votes

Did they ever fix Banshees being able to block more than one ability if they both hit very close to each other?

Death by Glamour2 votes

morganas shield, if broken allows CC to still effect the target

its one of the reasons why a thresh will max Q when laning against a morg

Duration 4 -> 2 seconds.

I think that if it was a shorter ability, it would be fine, or that if it was less ridiculous it would be fine.

I'm, however, attached to making the duration shorter, because it changes none of the actually fun parts of playing as / against Yasuo (timing it well, baiting the wall, and so on), and also doesn't make it awkward or clunky ("doesn't block ultimates" / "breaks after X spells"-- how do you treat ie. Corki ult or ie. Taliyah Q).

Every suggestion I see creates a lot of knowledge problems that make the ability feel very muddied. One of the strengths of the design-- and the design for a lot of the characters-- is how boiled down you can condense their kits without losing much.

delete him.

@thread Yasuo Q ----> No longer has a tornado and has normal crit damage. Yasuo W ----> windwall removed. Tornado replaces it. Tornado doesnt eat projectiles, but instead redirects projectiles like a wedge, giving room for skill expression and "errors" from yasuo. Yasuo R ----> loses its armor penetration, gains 25/50/75% critical strike damage instead. Yasuo E+tornado would work exactly the same as it does now, except yasuo can also redirect projectiles with it.

Dedenne1 votes

Hold on, this could actually work.

Paroe1 votes

Hold on, this could actually work.

Gets rid of whats actually frustrating about yasuo (his wind wall just completely eating projectiles) while giving yasuo not only room to be outplayed but also room to make mistakes... it helps people play against yasuo because they SEE him make mistakes, and dont get extremely frustrated because he just friggin ate your fight-winning nami ult for the fifth time.

Shahamut1 votes

I still think letting it delete things that hit it directly would be better. What happens to things like Nami wave that is larger than the tornado?

Nami wave shouldnt BE a projectile in the first place. Id like it if riot could 'split' nami's wave, but for realistic purposes yasuo simply wouldnt be able to block an entire body of water.

Shahamut1 votes

but for realistic purposes

Did we really just go there?

So Nami, a mermaid, who can magically float around in the air and move swiftly while outside of the ocean, can summon a giant wall of water, but for REALISTIC purposes... Yasuo can't block an entire "body"(?) of water with wind?

A force equal to the waves momentum, be it air or anything else, makes sense for stopping the wave. For realistic purposes, how about nami's wave only travels about 4 teemos since the friction would cause it to crash down right away, unless of course you use it in river, then it could travel 10 teemos...

/sarcasm...

Aight columbo. realistic purposes meant, in context, something riot can realistically do. It is not realistic to expect riot to be able to code nami's wave being split in a specific interation.

What is realistic is to expect riot to just let nami's CLEARLY NOT A PROJECTILE ULTIMATE not be a projectile.

Shahamut1 votes

how is it not a projectile? XD

ModAcademy Kayn3 votes

No it doesn't. You've just given Yasuo Immediate access to his Ult, without the need for minions at all. That runs counter towards his entire design, which gives you 2 q's worth of time before he even has access to his ult.

Or... You simply play around it and its new high cooldown instead of letting yasuo completely zone you out due to the sheer threat of his resourceless Qs into hard CC that procs his ult?

It removes needless threat from yasuo and gives extra room for players to play around him, which is something that yasuo currently lacks; the only real way to play around him is to just back way the heck out.

Lordk0z3 votes

Windwall except 1: It only solidifies after it's done spawning, and 2: If it takes more than a set amount of damage (Potentially plus a chunk for taking CC) it breaks.

5or6stores3 votes

Nerf it by doing one of the following:

  1. giving it a health bar that increases as he ranks it up
  2. giving it a small delay before casting
  3. not blocking in all directions
VolatileAkali2 votes

Give him a a small ranged ability since his dumbass doesn't have one.

The thigh guy2 votes

Simple. Keep the stupid wall. But make it a one way deal. Then suddenly he can’t juggle inside and be immune to existence.

Saianna2 votes

Full blown rework where Riot won't try to make him overbearing mess of a "i'm riots posterboy, fuck you", which means his shield, passive, R passive, windwall, R-safety switch near turret are all changed/removed.

But that won't happen.

Sirsir2 votes

1-3 second duration based on level

And fix this

SłęeplessÇry1 votes

I'd probably not actually change it's function, but duration. 4 seconds at all ranks is dumb. especially when its hitbox is big enough for him to hide in and gain 360 protection. I feel it would be a lot more fair if it was a reactionary ability like sivers spell shield. where he needs to time it well, or be punished for misusing it. or perhaps just increase its cool down. between that and his passive shield he is too resistant to poke. its fine places like midlane where he's supposed to be, but then you get yas bot where you just can't do anything at all to him.

Mavëríck1 votes

I'd just make the duration it's active shorter. That's it. I hate Yasuo but his Windwall is the least of anyone's worries. His infinite dash bullshit is the real OP problem.

5050BS1 votes

Change his passive Flow to his W. 100/150/250/400/600 Make his W Consume Flow to cast the WW WW Blocks 200% his Flow shield then stops Does not block both directions

Targon1 votes

Windwall's main problem is that it invalidates so many champion abilities/kits when used at the correct time, while being completely useless against certain champions (such as melee champions with no projectiles). If Windwall ever gets replaced, it should be replaced with a defensive spell.

My thought is granting him a sort of barrier that blocks some damage on ability/AA hits. Think kinda like if Yasuo was surrounded in 4 Fiora-like vitals, but instead, Yasuo takes reduced damage from AAs/abilities when enemies hit the vitals.

Hella Gay Nerd1 votes

Make it like Yorick's wall with health for each projectile it blocks.

Or make it consume all of his flow and duration dependent on how much flow he had.

Or don't let people cast it half a second after the projectile should have already hit him and have it be completely negated.

Or make it self only instead of it being a better support ability than the most support's entire kits late game.

jocomotion1 votes

Have it last maybe 1/ 1.4 / 1.8 / 2.2 / 2.6 seconds instead of 3.75 at all ranks

Buff HP regain and HP regain per level and lower WW CD to 18 / 17 / 16 / 15 / 14 seconds from 26 / 24 / 22 / 20 / 18 to compensate

Edit: also make it so windwall requires you aim it at the right direction to block damage, rather than it gaining that split second of projectile invulnerability on cast.

Around999People1 votes

I posted this in another thread, but basically:

Make WW last a very short amount of time. Something like 1 sec or under. But for blocking an ability it gets +1 sec. Blocking an auto it gets +.5 dec.

This way Yas still gets his outplay moment, but it no longer feels so broken and unbeatable

14daysuspensionk1 votes

Make his W insta flame everyone in chat.

I Do Pew Pew Pew1 votes

it's simple, remove yasuo from game

PopcornBunni1 votes

It isn't an "instead." The issue isn't what windwall's function is, it's how long and how freely it does that function.

Shoot the wall out further away from yasuo and have the hitbox only spawn at his sword swing, not from behind him. Have the wall only able to take so many hits (tick health like Zyra plants, something like 3/4/5/6/7 health based on rank with autos dealing 1 damage and spells dealing 2. From there it can have decreased cooldown or otherwise shifted power in his kit (higher max ramp up damage on E, R's armor reduction workign on all his damage not just crits, etc).

Weiss Guertena1 votes

Is it too much to ask making Windwall less forgiving to use? In theory, it's an ability that with skillful application counters stuff that opponents throw at you. In practice, even the worst Iron 5 player can panic-smash the W key when they see something incoming, throw the wall in a completely wrong direction and still block the incoming projectile because for some reason Riot decided wall should start behind Yasuo and not have any delay before activating, essentially giving him a braindead easy to use 360 degree protection.

Make it spawn in front of him and only block directional hits like Braum's shield does. It's just one of many unnecessary safety nets that are simply there for bad players to feel they are actually decent at the game when playing Yasuo. Less hand-holding would go a long way.

NightTimeBlues191 votes

I like the windwall concept but it is to powerful of an ability. Make it a damage reduction rather than a just stopping any "projectile". I put that in quotes because it stops some things that isn't a projectile like poppys ult. Its a hammer moving through the ground. What about that can be stopped by a wall of wind? Like update some interactions that don't make any sense and make it a ranged damage reduction.

Preheated Oven1 votes

have it only block 1 projectile then die

Yenn1 votes

The main problem with Windwall is that it makes ranged champions unable to interact with him while he wave clears, which in turn makes it impossible to stop his power spike.

The ideal solution would probably be to significantly lower the duration and make it more like Fiora's parry.

Ambient Snow1 votes

They need to make his wind part of a Energy usage kind of like the ninja's.. the issue with Yasou is he can wind wall and has a passive shield that builds up way to fast.

the more "Wind energy" he has . example for his Shield.. The longer windwall lasts.. Cause right now its rcrazythat he can pop it up and it blow Every ranged ability coming at him.. for that long.

Elemental Lux1 votes

I would give him a defensive stance and remove his passive shield. The stance is the classic hand on sheathed katana. It slows him but he can charge it for a wide slash that shields him for damage dealt.

Always angry tbh1 votes

Make the windwall not increase in size per rank. Just cooldown. Make it NOT come out of him but spawn at the location after a very short delay 0,25/0,3 seconds so that if he places it wrong he will still get hit. For real, why does it come out of him? Maybe slightly and I mean SLIGHTLY increase the range so that he could block for teammates better since the wall won't have a travel time. Also slightly decrease the wall's hitbox so that large skillshots are less likely to get soaked up when they hardly clip the windwall while going past it.
