Riot, Please Rework Eve

Angelofchaos16x··65 votes·4,757 views

So, Eve is very gimped because of her perma stealth, however now that is no good anymore, since there are no more green wards, and Eve's passive is basically you can avoid green wards, and while that is really nice, other then Bot lane, that is no good. She has no gap closer or hard CC, which are needed for a jungler, but she received none because of her perma stealth and now that Pink wards are all over the map she can't do much other then just hope that someone forgot to ward and go take them down. The best prof of this is how her win rate dropped in the new patch, in a patch that Runeglaive got +10CDR that Eve like, and everyone is a adc, that are squishy targets that Eve loves to face. This patch should have made her feel like home, yet it took the one advantage she had over other junglers and she is just a part of the past. Please Riot give her a rework.

I agree that eve needs work, but there are a few inconsistencies with your argumentaton.

  1. Stealth wards are still very much a thing. Every one has access to them on trinkets and supports/junglers place them all the time with sightstone/tracker's knfe.

  2. A Jungler doesn't need a gap closer or hard CC, and her W is basically a gap closer because, let's be honest, it closes pretty much any gap. Her ganks aren't the greatest, but they are by no means terrible.

  3. Runeglaive already had 10% cdr and got a massive cost increase, as well as an AP decrease. On balance, it was nerfed.

Here are some reasons why Eve is struggling:

  1. It used to be possible to constantly keep track of the jungler through vision control. Now, since wards are extremely short in duration and are lmited numerically, one cannot do that nearly as well. This means that one of Eve's core advantages (that no one knew where she was) was applied to most junglers, making her far weaker by comparison.

  2. Pink wards are more numerous and they supply a hard counter to eve's ganks. If you see eve coming, her gank is useless.

  3. The first clear has been made much, much harder, and eve's first clear was never ideal to begin with. This means that her gold income is stunted throughout the rest of her clearing, and her vulnerabilty to counter jungling has become even worse.

  4. For no particular reason, riot added magic resist to jungle mobs. Eve does primarily magic damage when clearing (Q is the primary clear skill).

  5. Ap itemization was nerfed across the board. This hurts eve because, as of recently, people have been building a healthy amount of AP on her. Runeglaive is basically her only real build path, and it requires at least some ap in order to be successfull.

Like I said, I agree with you point; eve really needs work. I just agree for other reasons.

True and valid points, my point with the wards was placed incorrectly. My problem is now, many top/mid laners that used to buy green ward for certain points, now just buy pinks. For instance, the only place I still don't see a lot of pink wards is the scuttle crab bush, but other then that, in places that usually I would only find greens, I now find pinks.

as a crit eve and AD eve enthusiast, the nerf to her W really fucked that build. she goes oom way to fast now.

eve really needs a rework. not a heavy one, but something to bring her back to her mid lane assassin roots. she was never meant to jg, her passive just allowed it and players and riot forced it on her with nerf after nerf.

I used to think skipping runeglaive and rushing straight into lichbane would be viable, but same thing you mentioned here. W costing mana is a real nerf. I;m not even sure why riots excuse for nerfing it existed.

There are still green wards. You've got trinkets, multiple sightstone upgrades, and a jungle warding item.

Then may I ask how you build her, i.e. runes and masteries and what you begin with in jungle? I'm not doubting you just wanting to learn. Thanks.

If you just want the build then that's not so simple, it depends on what the team composition is but generally speaking, I favor more semi-tanky Evelynn during this preseason than assassin Evelynn which was great S5.

That is to say, if you have little to no tanks on your team; item 1402 item 3001 item 1314 item 3157 item 3146 item 3115

If you have some good initiation/tanks on your team OR if you have ZERO faith in your team being even remotely competent; item 1402 item 1311 item 3285 item 3135 item 3115 item 3089

Generally speaking; the better your team is, the less movement speed you will require.... the better your team is, the less tankiness you will require. But you have to build around what will be the most successful based on what kind of teammates/composition you have.

Evelynn got better because Hunter's Potion works beautifully on her, I used to buy Crystalline Flask and Hunter's Potion is a straight-upgrade in every way.... but this was offset by the removal of upgradable yellow trinket (Could almost maintain 3 wards from level 9 onward) and the reduction in cost of purple wards. It somewhat balances out with Evelynn being slightly weaker than before overall.

Anyway start with refillable potion and caster jungle item, clear two camps and then go back to get hunter's potion, from there be as opportunistic as possible do not try to solo anyone or duel enemy jungler. Your job is to be a scavenger, not fighter. Bad lane control by your teammates (I.e. blind pushing) means you don't gank, instead just farm jungle until an opportunity presents itself.

Masteries right now are going into the (whatever it's called) middle tree, get armor/MR flat penetration mastery into Thunderlord's Decree. On the far left tree get Ability damage bonus, double edged sword, forget what the next one is and then Bounty Hunter.

Do not get Deathfire Touch under any circumstances. Thunderlord's Decree 100% of the time.

Runes I use are; 3 flat armor quints 9 armor/MR piercing reds 9 Scaling armor yellow 9 Scaling MR blue

I used to run movement speed in S5, but the updated jungle will rape Evelynn if she does not have the flat armor quints. That is what I run, check my stats and see that I am not lying. http://www.lolskill.net/summoner/NA/dominick%20destine

Also, run smite/ignite... do not use flash. If you ever need Flash to escape, that's because your positioning was so terrible that even Flash will tend not to save you. Ignite is a far better choice.

I too am an Eve main :P (well, stopped playing her/ranked after hitting gold like 2+months ago) She's the reason I climbed to gold. I should prepare and practice her for season 6.

I have a question to ask you. How's this rune setup compared to the ones you are using? I've been using this as my go to runes for Eve. Runepage. + 7.83Magic Pen. / +9x ad runes + 25.56Ability Power + 9.00Armor

AD runes are good for the early clear but fall off very hard. It only "looks" like Evelynn has good AD scaling but it's actually really bad. MPen or DualPen work better because the overwhelming majority of her damage is always magical... and Sorc boots+Abyssal+DualPenMastery+DualPenRunes(Or Mpen runes) will have you reducing upwards of 45 MR mid game which is just enough to deal true damage to anyone that did not invest in MR (ADC/APC but not tanks, hybrids or support). So I wouldn't recommend AD runes but they're fine if you are trying to be extra cautious of early game.

I used to run AD runes pre-patch actually because I was scared of the early clear but post patch it is unnecessary in my opinion.

+25 flat AP is not worth it, remember that Hate Spike AP ratio increases with each level and starts off at an abysmal .35 , it barely helps early game and by the time you have maxed Hate Spike (Level 9 .55 ratio) a +25 flat AP will not be making much of a difference. But again if it works for you, that's fine. I ran flat AP for awhile when I wanted maximum burst, but after the continuous nerfs to Evelynn's damage (Hate spike base damage, hate spike ratios) I decided against it.

Remember that Evelynn has been specifically gutted to have a bad early game... these changes were all aimed towards specifically neutering the things you are trying to do. Some people like early game Evelynn because she has the potential to score early first blood and snowball from there, but I dislike that path because it relies on the enemies having utter shit lane-control (I.e. blind pushing) and zero warding. Yes exploit enemy weaknesses but do not rely on them because when it fails, you'll be crippled for the entire remainder of the game; Evelynn is complete garbage if she falls behind. etc.

You might have great success at low levels of ranked though, so if that is your goal, I recommend you try it but the higher you get the less effective it will become as warding becomes prevalent and lane control is a major push/pull battle , especially if an Evelynn is on the enemy team. Point being; DualPen/MPen are better for mid game/late game which are the best moments for Evelynn to shine, especially entering mid game when players are a bit more scattershot (after first turret falls and roaming begins) you are able to more easily catch people alone and score some assassinations.

That is my opinion.

Any reason you take such a defensive set-up then shy away from the full bruiser build that is most popular?

Any thoughts on AD Evelynn currently? With warrior going up to 60 AD and losing the ArPen she didn't use well it might be good again? I was thinking Warrior/Iceborn/Steraks might work out on her.

Any reason you take such a defensive set-up then shy away from the full bruiser build that is most popular?

Most popular =/= Most effective

The defenses are necessary because Evelynn , though an assassin, lacks the burst capacity in-and-out or stun-into-kill of other assassins (Fizz, Rengar, Talon, etc.)... she has no defenses whatsoever aside from a very flimsy ult-shield and she has no disables, so she is a lot more of a Fast-Duelist than a straight-up assassin. The only time to go full-assassin is when you have good tanks or if you have zero faith in your team (Relying on lucky kills for long shot victory). The majority of the times it is better to be able to out-tank the enemy than rely on gimmicks.

Evelynn has a Shaco-esque quality wherein as soon as you appear during a skirmish or team fight, you will be focused down. So you want to flank or otherwise ult , going in and out of the team fight, forcing others to overextend... or even "peeling" for the ADC giving them the choice to focus the ADC and get killed by you, or focus you and get killed by the ADC. "Full bruiser" doesn't work because Evelynn simply does not have the tools or defenses for it.

Any thoughts on AD Evelynn currently? With warrior going up to 60 AD and losing the ArPen she didn't use well it might be good again? I was thinking Warrior/Iceborn/Steraks might work out on her.

AD Evelynn was always trash except for a very brief period when Trinity Force synergized very well with her. In any case, I would never go warrior enchant, Runeglaive is almost exclusively balanced around Evelynn and Nidalee... possibly Diana in S6 now. Point being; It is absolutely the optimal for her.

AD doesn't work on Evelynn because AD is more sustained damage whereas AP is more burst. If you go AD you will not be able to burst as effectively and Evelynn does not have the tools to make AD work (Ex: Lee Sin with huge mobility, slow, stun, dashes, etc... or Jarvan with multiple gap closers/stun/trap/armor shred/etc.). The scaling on Ravage and Hate Spike are also very low for AD scalings. Her only benefit is her high attack speed steroid but that alone is not enough to beat any other AD character in scaling, sustain or damage.

Iceborn gauntlet is very good on her, but unfortunately it doesn't work with Runeglaive... if you insist on pushing Iceborn gauntlet, I would instead go Cinderhulk into Iceborn into Full Tank items rather than Warrior into AD.

Absolute nonsense. Evelynn's damage scaling, burst wise, is second to none. You can assassinate a non tank, non hybrid target in half a second when you have 4 completed items. The other two will not increase the speed but will ensure it more so.

Evelynn has a great mid and late game. It is her early game that is quite atrocious.

Question, would you ever think of skipping the tier 3 jungle enchant and going straight to iceborns or lichbane?

No. Once you have blue smite item, it costs 1625 to make Runeglaive but 3200 to make Lich Bane... while Lich Bane is objectively better for Evelynn... it's not 1575 gold better. Same argument goes for Iceborn.

I would enjoy an Eve rework that didn't have her permastealth. That kinda made her hell to play both as and against.

Rebonack2 votes

Step 1) Make is so stealth wards can spot her as if they were champions.

Step 2) Make it so she gets the (!) icon above her head regardless of whether she can see what has spotted her or not.

Step 3) Buff the hell out of her now that a huge amount of kit power has been opened up for her.

Personally I would love it if her Ult were a bit more akin to her old one. Give it back the old On Assist heal and get rid of the shield. Remove the damage completely and instead make it give Eve a buff for ~10 seconds that gives her a bunch of OnHit magic damage. Then allow the thing to refresh on kills and assists.

There's no reason to try to force Eve to be the burst from stealth champion.

Knifecat already does that far better than she ever will.

I Miss Cannon2 votes

She's fine and i find her fun to play as an early game carry, much more than Lee or Elise. The only thing she needs buffed are her jungle clears, i can't even make 3 camps without backing expect i get a hard leash.

WTBeGirl100EUhr1 votes

I can do full clears (not healthily) with a decent leash. Run 0/18/12, AD or Hybrid Pen Marks, Armor Seals, AP Glyphs, AP Quints. Increased potion duration, plus full HP regen from your 12 points in resolve (+tough skin). It sounds like a lot of investment, but honestly doing Gromp/Blue/Wolves/Red then being able to gank is absolutely incredible, even if you lose some damage from lack of oppressor, sorcery and double-edged sword. You're giving up like 5% (less pre-rylais, more post-rylais) of your overall damage in exchange for a healthier early game.

Her early clear is getting easier next patch (buffs to talisman, nerfs to jungle MR, buff to refillable (if you're buying that for some reason)) so hopefully things will be peachy next patch.

i go 18/12/0 with dft running talisman 3health pots. flat ad runes flat armour yelloew flat ap blues and quints and doing the jungle is easy as pie. start gromp then blue hit skuttle then wolves red stones and then either skuttle raptors or raptors gank mid. seems to work out fine for me with evelyn.

WTBeGirl100EUhr1 votes

DFT is awful on Evelynn imo (and largely in general on non-DOT mages). Plus, since you do mixed damage (40% physical, 60% magic) the pen from precision, (which as was mathed elsewhere, is better s'long as your opponent has less than 120 MR just on the magic damage alone) is much more valuable to you.

Thunderlord's bug aside, 18 in Cunning is superior in every way to 18 in ferocity.

My issue with doing scuttlecrab, especially twice, on the first clear is that it takes a while as Evelynn and if your opponent has the same idea you'll probably have to surrender it. Gromp=>Blue=>Wolves=>Red=>Gank takes a lot less time than Gromp=>Blue=>Scuttle=>Wolves=>Red=>Golems=>Raptors=>Gank. It's not like you need raptor buff to gank as Eve.

its not that DFT is better then cunning but that DFT stacks rly well imo with red early on and with hate spike will generally keep it up despite the aoe disadvantage. i prefer constant dmg over 20-30 seconds of down time burst with evelyn cause its like free dmg on an already spammable spell. and i dont know if its exactly true but i feel u get more consistant dmg with the 7% MPenn. then u do waiting for percision to catch up and finally surpass it. by that time your alrdy doing enough it shouldnt rally matter if your penn is flat or % targets die to fast to even tell which is which in most cases, or atleast imo.

WTBeGirl100EUhr1 votes

Precision is better than the 7% at all stages of the game. I don't know what thread the maths was in though. It also boosts your physical damage (your E), which is a pretty large part of your up-front damage.

you mean this is any different than before the patch? any smart team would have pink wards all around the map with an enemy Eve jungle anyway, to avoid her ganks. it's the Eve's job to avoid said pink wards.

i don't disagree though, she needs a rework to take her stealth away so she can get her power budget into the rest of her kit.. she's one of my favorite champions, so i really hate to see her get nerfed every other patch because Riot hates her perma-stealth mechanic..

Eve is an ASSASSIN Lets take a look at other assassins with "lots" of CC Akali = I think she might have a slow Ahri = She has her charm Ekko = a slow and a stun (Ekko actually has a lot of cc for a Assassin Evelynn = A slow (and a pretty good one) Fiora = she can reflect cc Fizz = A slow Irelia = a stun or slow depending on the amount of health you have Jax = a stun Kassadin = (I have never played Kassadin and i havent played against many so idk what he has) Apparently he has a slow Katarina = NO CC Khazix = A slow Leblanc = a stun LeeSin = a slow i think idk i havent played him before Malzahar = A silence and a supresser MasterYi = NO CC Nidalee =I dont think she has any cc (maybe her traps) Nocturne = a slow and a stun i think Pantheon = a stun Poppy = a hard to land stun Rengar = a supprss? (Idk what its called techinacally but his bola thing Riven = a stun and knockup (Kind of like ekko) Shaco = a fear Talon = I dont think he has any cc Teemo = a slow and blind Tristana = (LOL I DIDNT NOW TRIST WAS AN ASSASSIN) NO CC Tryndamere = a slow Twitch = I dont think he has any cc Vayne = A stun Vi = whatever you call her ult Xerath = I dont think he has any cc XinZhao = A knockup and whatever you call his ult Yasuo = a knockup Zed =NO CC Id like to point out that most of these people arent leona in terms of cc, Eve is fine for her role. Also, eve was a midlaner like in S3 or something, and she is perfectly fine and i beleive she doesnt need a rework (Might be a bit biased as she is my 4th most played champion.

talon,twitch,zed have slows

Sorry but I just got back now. In fact I came here to thank you. It is much appreciated. So by your build Rylai's -- which I noticed a lot of ranked players from last season built for her -- is at best a niche item if at all?

I have never liked Rylai's on Evelynn. It gives you a strong slow, but that's practically useless if the enemy is even remotely competent.

Think; When will you need a slow? when it will it be effective? 1- The enemy must be alone and caught off guard. 2- There must be a lot of range between the enemy and their turret or allies. 3- The enemy must NOT have an escape mechanism or duration stun (Ex: TF Gold Card, Tristana jump, Brand Q stun, Lee Sin multi dashes, Corki valkyrie, Alistar knockback, etc.). 4- If the first three are favorable; You must at this point be stronger than the enemy (Duel) to capitalize on it (Rylais is very cost inefficient for dueling).

It is a newb trap because it requires way too many favorable situations... blue smite and (if necessary/available) ult should be enough... keep in mind that SLOWS DO NOT STACK ANYMORE. So my point stands, it is far more cost effective to get abyssal , void staff, nashor's tooth or even straight Rabaddon's (Not recommended until very late game). Bursting, over-tanking or even just straight out-dueling is almost always better.

Again this is what works for me but if you want to run the Rylais build, go for it. I guess if you get REALLY early fed, it might be a good idea, but even then I would rather boost the damage/defense with Abyssal than a flimsy slow with mediocre damage boost (Abyssal's AP/MR reduction grant FAR better damage than 100 AP from Rylais).

Also note; Abyssal helps your clear speed significantly. That is a big factor since it boosts the speed at which you farm gold, which helps you scale quicker.

So...i have freakung MADE A REWORK THAT FIXES ALL OF HER PROBLEMS but nobody cares ;_; Anyway, give opinions on it please!!! http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/skin-champion-concepts/k9ab99gf-evelynn-the-spectre-of-valoranability-rework

ItsStout1 votes

Your rework doesnt fix any of her issues. It doesnt change that she's feast or famine. Doesn't help that your rework is overloaded. But, thats not bad. You tried something, and maybe you can keep working at it. I think your ultimate is actually a pretty good idea, for the most part.

I've made quite a few rework concepts in my time (I can show them to you if you want) and what I've learned is that the best way to redesign a champion is to look at their issues. NOT their weaknesses, mind you- things like... Aatrox's binary kit and him feeling flat im most phases of the game unless he gets super fed, NOT him being bad in teamfights. Anyway, make a list of these issues, and try to make sure that you SOLVE them. Make a checklist. And make sure you dont just create new issues.

Thing is, my changes are to emphasize her strengths, and give her tons of builds to use, and her being feast/famine is (in my opinion) what all assassins should have in their kits. Shes moreso than others because of her new kit being extremely efficient at assassination, especially when tower diving and on grouped foes. Probably going to change w to something more interesting though, i dont like its current version XD

Thing is, if anyone has suggestions, say them! Im making Evelynn's new kit to cater to the community, both if you play her, or face her (which is why q has a trail system, it reveals her a bit more! Edit:gonna make a SEVERELY OVERPOWERED AND OVERLOADED KIT IN A NEW POST And i need opinions
