This happens on ARAM all the time. My team takes down all of their towers except on Nexus turret, and their Inhibitor and have only lost our first tower, then the enemy team rushes us in a big 5v5 and we lose 3 people instantly, then they either kill a fourth person or get an ace and rush our nexus, and even though we respawn just as they take down our last tower there's nothing anyone on my team can do to save the nexus.
And it happens the other way around too!

Possibly my best ranked game; no my best game ever. I was 
and the only other I remember were

(enemy mid). At one point, all our towers and inhibitors were down. Our nexus was down to a 3rd of its health before we aced the enemy team. Somehow, a half hour later we won. There was a team fight at baron, and the front tower to the enemy base was down. I took down the inhibitor before noticed. He showed up just as i destroyed the inhibitor, before flashing toward the nexus (extra speed cuz passive). I got to work taking down the nexus, and brought down when ezreal showed up. At that point I felt a mixture of joy and adrenaline.
The post game lobby was just a big OMG moment for everyone. I even got 3 honours at once (rare in EUW). All they enemy had to do to win was backdoor. Sure laid mushrooms all over the base, but they still could have backdoored. It was a nice, probably the biggest reason why I don't surrender easily. But it sure would have been nice if that hapened once this season during my placements. Especially to prevent me from going to Bronze V.

had one match where we were losing really bad and had two failed surrender attempts. We got into a teamfight, Aced the other team and rushed their base. somehow we managed to take their inhibitor, nexus turrets and ace them again (thanks to how far apart their spawns were) and took their nexus. The best advice I could give to anyone if you have a chance to make a comeback, it's to space out killing the enemy team so at the most they will have only 2 people alive at a time. It works every time in ARAM.
This is 20 times better with the thought of the arrows being the gold difference.

mainly cause I don't like the play style or the way the skill set goes.
Happened in a game today
Just recently had a game where our Nexus reached half health and we still won...
Well, if you get one Ace late game, it doesn't matter how far behind you were.
I had a game that the other team had 2 inhibs down and we had 2 tier 2 turrets down and they were ahead by 15 kills. They went for Baron and we stole Baron and aced and then pushed mid to win. Our whole team was confused at why they went Baron instead of pushing our base.
That's because people refuse to do baron when it's there for free.... it's so hard to be the shotcaller ._. S/O to Bjergsen/Pobelter amazing shotcallers.
That is exactly me 5 minutes ago.
A ridiculous comeback where our nexus was 1 basic attack away from being destroyed. So unreal.

It's actually easy to do now. Just win a teamfight after 30 minutes and you have time to take down their base.
low elo loves throwing the game so comebacks can happen (unless its 30 vs 0 at 20 min, hate people that doesnt surrender when it happens)

Had a ranked game where we almost surrendered... But somehow we started making small comebacks due to our mid/ lategame comp and we managed to defend and make picks then finally push into their base and win... given how game are almost always a stomp now, it was refreshing for a change.
