let's skip all the useless talk. Since when talon's core identity was roaming? he has 0 mobility spells unlike kassadin's ulti, he has nothing but mobility boot which can be built on everyone. Last time i checked, zed also builds it, is his core identity roaming to?

i feel like this is Mordekaiser ever again, take a champ and give him some random gimmick that everyone can have like xp passive.

His E is a point and click gap closer and his ult is an invisible nuke with an movement speed boost. He has mobility just more of an offensive nature. When I play Talon I tend to roam a lot.

To be honest I'm worried they're gonna kill one of my favourite champions ;~;

Stashu is doing the rework? Any Cass main here will tell you that's bad news. He royally fucked Cass up last year, and only since her recent rework by another person has she been relevant again.

Maybe Stashu has learned his lesson, but he's a Rioter which means he can be more thickheaded than Malphite. I'd take bets the only thing he learned from last year is not to show his face on the forums after he bungles reworking someone's main.

Talon main here, and I'm sitting anxiously in the corner, praying that he isn't made useless or even worse, blatantly overpowered.

Exactly, i really hope that him and eve don't get wrecked by these reworks. I main anivia and talon as my midlaners, and if talon gets nerfed any harder/reworked completely I may have to play ap garen in the mid to spite Riot.

Lol yeah, my biggest fear is that he becomes a Malzahar: At first nearly permabanned, and then nerfed and gutted until he's not prevalent.

Rengar/Kha main here. I am not worried about viability of assassins post rework since Statikk stated that they will still remain bursty assassins made to punish squishies. What I am worried about is...are those champion keep their roles? I would really quit this game if my mains are gonna be reworked for top or mid lane instead of a jungle. I want a Jungle Rengar, not a fucking Top rengar....or even worse.........mid.

Yes, the reason is that he's scheduled to get a large(ish) scale rework the next year.

Yes, they could have given him a larger role in the class update (Like Mordekaiser, who was also on the VGU list) Now instead of putting him in a Class update, they decided he needed more time/ work. A mistake they made with Morde and don't want to be doing again

Yeah, he got some smaller scale changes. If they hadn't learned from the Juggernaut update he woulda been one of the big 6.

When Talon was popular, his big identity was his roaming and ganking potential. His ability to instantly close the gap or approach from stealth made him very good at roaming. Plus, his kit had a silence before which was removed for being unhealthy. Talon and Kassadin are known (or were known in their prime time) as roaming monsters.

I remember them talking about Stealth in the rework, so perhaps they are thinking about making him limited mobility, but rely a ton more on sneaking around via stealth in order to kill his targets.

I agree with you actually. I don't buy it as a particularly convincing pre-existing 'core'. IMO the problem is the class itself doesn't have enough divergence in their core identity. Taking that perspective, one can see that something had to be chosen to reduce the overlap. Roaming seems as good as any other.

There is also a side problem associated with Talon that kind of feeds into mobility (which might be why they're emphasising roaming). He has a single dash. That's not good for an assassin because it means he is really binary. He jumps in and either kills or dies. They need to give him an escape route. My suspicious is that it's the new escape route that enables him to have the core identity of 'roamer'

I don't think that roaming is the biggest part of Talon's identity either but he doesn't exactly have 0 mobility. If anything, I find it easier than other champions to roam. R stealth + youmou's + E = you're on to them before they even know you're there.

I guess people value Talon more for roaming because of his gank potential with his Rake cc, blink, and ult. Zed doesn't have that type of gank potential outside of his ult.

he does, he has a slow on his W+E, leblanc has a slow+snare the leach range is broken as hell. fizz can pass through walls, and his R+E slow is insane, his mobility in fight is also insane.

Agreed. Talon just is more FORCED to rely on roaming because he can't really do much else to be successful since his laning is terrible.

His core identity isn't roaming, because there are by far better roamer, like leblanc or even zed, even katarina since she can blink on wards through walls.

Talon is a fabulous AoE bomb. But it falls off later, which is sad.

And I'd say his niche is along the lines of single target burst and good chase, not roaming.

That's an exaggeration, but you can't say that it's not there.

Although it would be fun if that was their primary focus in his update.

His W and Ult give him very much AoE Damage.

While not necessarily instant killing anyone with just that, playing against a fed Talon is just hell. Especially when every member from your team doesn't have that much HP left, he can just E in the Middle and clean up with his huge AoE Ult.

All Assassins are good roamers.. but esp. Katarina and Talon because they aren't that strong on Lane in 1v1 as Zed or Leblanc .

Well, some people want all champions to be viable and balanced at the same time. I like to see new champions show up in LCK/LCS every once in a while, for instance.

If Talon jumps in, W,R,R and ravenous, anything less than a full tank is dead or a good chunk of the way there. As Talon, I'll sometimes literally jump in if I see them grouped and sacrifice myself by blowing my whole kit on them. Why? I'll kill 1-3 and the remaining will be half health or lower. Then the rest of my team cleans up.

It's unhealthy to have this suicide capable champion like that. That's not assassin gameplay, that's literally playing dead karthus.

I us e to play lots of Talon, and I love him, but even I can see that his assassin style is more jihadi than assassin.

Also yes, his signature is roaming. A Talon gank bot lane is almost guaranteed kill if he gets past a ward. He has just as much mobility as zed does essentially by ulting to dodge vision and suddenly appearing on the adc.

I mean don't critique the fact that he's getting a passive. Sure it's long overdue but this is a good thing. No need to be passive aggressive.

I've gotten somewhere around 5 pentakills with Talon and many many quadra kills with his ult/rake. Just have to position it all very well.

His core identity is roaming because he has quite a high threat range with the stealth + MS buff from his ult, paired with his blink. He can get to you from miles away, and you might not see him coming even if you ward, if you didn't use a pink (and it's not trivial to defend pinks if you use them).

Zed don't have this hard engage potential from so far away.

I think he would be stronger if his E ability was a dash vs an autolock ability so he could be more mobile, specifically while moving in the jungle. Like, if he hits a champ he blinks behind and slows, but otherwise its a dash.

Just keep the stealth and give back some form of silence and he'll be worth playing. Only two unique elements about talon anyways. We already have stealthier, quicker burst, more mobile, and more aoe oriented assassins in the game.

I don't have a video of it but once when I was ori with a fed talon top, who had ravenous hydra, I put my ball on him, he ulted and stealthed into the middle of the team where I could get a 5 man ori ult plus w and then talon reactivated his ult and ravenous and he got a penta.
