Ranked is incredibly toxic right now. Smurfs just do and say whatever they want. They are complete assholes. Not only that, but they can be used to boost, and their presence completely undermines matchmaking, and ruins the competitive spirit of ranked. Obviously, just banning smurfs won't stop players from making new ones. A ban on a smurf should be a ban on a main.
I disagree. Here's why I smurf.
I have 3 friends that I enjoy playing with. Not League specifically, but in general. I don't care what we're playing; I'm in it for the conversations because they're my best friends and I enjoy talking to them. We normally play normals. I'm plat, they're in bronze. However every once in a while, one of them just really wants to play ranked, so I'll get on my smurf to play with them. Normally I play anywhere from 0-3 ranked games a week, sometimes more but not much more.
I do feel shitty ruining games for the enemy team, though, so I'll usually give tips as I see the enemy player making obvious mistakes in their gameplay.
And by the way, I feel like your post was worded a lot more aggressively and rude than mine is, even though I'm the one who smurfs and should be the asshole in this.
