Retreat? Hell!

I am fully aware of the responses, and arguements, against me here. Time saved, higher rate of farming rank, statistically sound decision making. That it is just wasting other people's time... but you know what? Screw your time. You came here with me, and very few of you got here first. You knew people like me were here. I am not here to farm. I AM HERE TO WIN. My fun in this game is letting the other team see that beautiful Defeat message.

I do not click yes on Surrenders. Ever.* 1,000,000,000:1 against odds... and I start hoping their Internet cuts out, or they lose power. I am here to win, and get bent if you think I am going to decide to lose. I may not have any power left to decide if I am going to win... but I am not losing intentionally.

That is what it is. Arguements aside. You can say you had absolutely no chance to win... but that isn't true. Unless you surrendered as they took out your Nexus, but why bother?

The fundamental decision being made is "I will lose this game, and I accept that" Piss off. Victory or death.

This is why I support brining the Win/Loss count back to League. Big, Bold, and Beautiful right there on your profile page for everyone to see just like we used to have. Okay, neat, you're Platinum... what is your ACTUAL win rate. We can see. Do you get carried by friends in Ranked, but are garbage in solo and normals? You might consider sticking around, especially those who like to look good.

*I will click surrender if someone on my team is being harassed or bullied by someone else on the team. It's just assholish to make them put up with that sorta thing.

**Wasting your time is not harassing or bullying you. You joined a match. You know how long hey can last. You accepted that before you got touchy.

Wow, you seem so cool and respectable, like that guy from the shounen anime, Naruto! He never gives up, either, believe it!

Anyways, that aside, I normally OK with these posts I am a person who rarely surrenders, but this... this takes it to desperate levels and looks a little pitiful. Not in the sense that you actually are, but the actions certainly make it appear that way. What I mean is this- who admittingly and willingly values their time so fucking little that they literally never surrender- that has enough time in their life that they actually pray the enemies power goes out so they have even a shot(tm) of winning? Like, that just seems... Really, really sad. That your time is next to worthless to be able to do this consistently every game.

I think this speaks much, much more volume then your "never surrender!" mentality about what kind of person you're on. And that's not the fundamental decision a lot of the time; sure people throw in the towel WAY too easily sometimes, but the fundamental decision on the players 3/4 of the players who continuously try despite it being a near unwinnable game is this: "Is my time better spent in another game at this point? Are my win conditions so far behind that it literally requires one of them to afk?" If the answer is yes to even one of those, you should probably consider surrendering. Unfortunately, I'm not conceited enough to believe that my opinion is the right opinion about surrendering; I will say however you strongly need to evaluate your time more. People that have respect for themselves- have respect for their own time. That's a fact. The opposite is also true. Good luck in your matches.

Has nothing to do with respect for myself and my time. The times I am gaming are times I have set aside for myself apart from work and family. I ENJOY the long odds, and difficult games. I get more excitement out of an hour long game, winning in the end, than I do out of stomping the other team.

Games where you thrash the other team, beating them out of hand, are boring to me. Games that I have to dig in, grit my teeth, and play hard are fun to me. I'd rather lose a good game than win a boring game.

I've nothing to farm for in League. There is no end goal that I want. I play game by game, each one is unique and fun.

You need courage to fight, but you also need courage to accept defeats, too.

The reality is that not all fights are winnable, you lose some, you win some. There is nothing wrong to do a strategic retreat, as long as you know you're not running away from it forever.

So, losing a match via forfeiting is no big deal, only rage quit is. There is a difference.

That's rather the thing. There is no retreat in League that is stategic. There is no second shot at that match, or redo that match in a few days once regrouped. The battle is the war, and retreating from it is losing that one.

There are matches that are straight up unwinnable. For instance, if you're a mid-game team up against a late-game team and failed to end the game early, there is no way for you to win the match. Just accept that you screwed up and you'll try to not make the same mistake again, and move on. Getting obsessed over it does nothing, nor does it in any way help you.

Neither does moving on, for me lol. Each game to me is a unique game experience, and I enjoy the novelty. I am not farming for rank, skins, or champions. I play the game on a match by match basis, and each one is as important to me as the last.

If you're dueling against an opponent irl, and you screwed up and have one of your arms shattered and basically means you've lost, would you escape, heal up, and get more training, or you'd fight them there and potentially result in either more wasted time or permanent disability due to delayed treatment and/or having more severe injuries that or may not result in death there hence it's all over?

If you are insisting the latter, you're an idiot.

It's not wrong to enjoy each match to the fullest, but do not confuse it with insisting on fighting an opponent to the death even though it becomes abundantly clear that you've already lost.

Some matches are just unwinnable, to which you must accept defeat. Also, psychologically, if you never accept defeat, you will never learn; because you will never accept that you're incomplete, that you have weaknesses, and that you've lost. Accepting defeat is vital in self development in any field, and also takes courage to do so.

Incidentally, I don't suffer impairment from losing a game. Nor lose a limb. I can afford to refuse defeat with zero cost to myself.

Accepting weakness is fine, however there is nothing learned by surrendering and ending a game 5 minutes later, any more than running it to its fullest. You do not gain insight on your mistakes by dropping it and moving on, nor do you gain insight on your mistakes just because you choose to surrender or not. That is an entirely different concept, and irrelevant in a decision to surrender a match.

It also comes to differences in what we all deem as fun, as well.

Insofar as philosophical reasoning, which you are delving into.. there are very few things in life that you can simply surrender and redo. In a war surrendered troops are offened tortured or killed at any rate. Surrendering profits them nothing. In business, to simply surrender and move on also tends to run at a net loss.
