Yasuo complaints - Are they justified ?

First of all, i hate this champion to the core of the ground, that stays as a fact, but do i think he is op - not really.

When people comment and make threads about him, it usually ends up to be full on pointless rage, because you lost a game or two. That really does not help the case and make people who matter - care even less.

In my opinion, the issue with him is that his kit cancels any type of setup on mid lane - which annoys hard. He forces you to either drop cs or go into trades, while majority would prefer to pile on some gold with typical mage stand off. Champions with similar role have way more distinct weaknesses :

  1. Zed - it is possible to dodge e and prevent shuriken attacks , his shadow is visible - there is only one way he could go, and ultimate is head on.
  2. Talon - very strong burst, but he has one way in, plus his silence is gone. So early agression with some control, can prevent him to do anything.
  3. Akali - hardly even played, but also simple, w is only defense mechanism (average one), and strong burst requires sucession of spells - so it is quite easy to backdown.
  4. Katarina - similar like Akali, with better transportation tool in e, also need to go head on mode to properly combo.
  5. Diana - Needs some items to trade properly, if her q does not connect, all in would be quite weaker, also quite transperant.
  6. LeBlanc - She is pretty good, but as any caster, can get out of mana, her sucsession of attacks can be spoted quite easy, plus she is squishy.

Now to get back to Yasuo. Major issue with him is - too good wave control and not following the model "high risk high reward". There is rarely any risk if you go for trade off. His passive can block one to two solid retaliation spells, windwall as well, also his e will help him get out without any chance of retaliation whatsoever. So that is the case. Damage isnt the issue - risk free status is, and there are oh so many ways to fix that.

For example :

  1. Reduce the size of windwall - make side projectiles easier to hit
  2. Make his second bar work like rage, it builds up not by itself but by trades. It will be rewarding for really good Yasuo players, but average ones won't have one way ticket out. 3 For me, best choice- put a cap on e. Simply as that, possibly up to 4 at max level.

So to sum it up - He is too safe, for the damage he brings into lane trade offs. Argument that - it needs teamwork later, it can fall off, etc. is invalid in general strenght discussion. If he takes out opponents Viktor 4 to 5 times in lane - well..he will still to way better that that poor guy.

PS. In my case, i usually do even or bad vs Yas, but here are some champs that worked quite fine for me:

  1. Zed - even if he blocks half of your stuff, raw damage trade is usually enough.

  2. Lux - Her passive proc can take down that wind bar, e can get underneath, or you can side it to still hit him, both q and ult are projectiles - he cannot block both if you time properly, every spell procs that AA + passive, plus u have a sheild of your own. So any semi combo can burn him, plus you are ok to farm.

  3. Swain - might be boring as hell but in cases like this he is beautiful. Slow, snare + huge regen potential - literaly farm up a bit and go into his face, simply wear him down, should be at least even trade.

  4. Jayce - his cannon form poke is very good, plus your hammer form kit gives you enough options to dodge any aggresive dives, just to mention this pick requires good positioning. Jayce is really mana hungry, so if you waste q+e combo too many times, you will drop, also poke with AA with great care, you might feel like bruiser, but you arent.

TLDR so I'm only going to respond to the title and say that if their complaint is that Yasuo is too popular and that makes the game stale, then it is a legit complaint.

If it is a balance complaint, then I'm still not sure. Because changes are coming down the pipe and I wanna see what he looks like once the actual season starts before passing judgement

TLDR, he is quite strong, he isn't op. Very susceptible to ganks, high skill-cap. He's overplayed and over-complained about.

The thing is that if you let Yasuo move as he pleases in lane and set up the plays then you are in big trouble (if he is a good Yasuo).

Yasuo has a lot of mini-mindgames to play with and so the enemy must play around those too. Everything in his kit has great strenghts and great weaknesses given the opponent and it's not a static play. This is probably why many players find him frustrating to play against.

If people are going to complain about Yasuo just because he's popular, then there are a bunch of other people who can complain about Thresh too. Thresh is never going away. Thresh will NEVER not be good, which is a design anomaly, like Rek'sai (who was nerfed for the exact same reason despite being pretty much harmless after they gutted her damage, and will still always be around in the jungle just because of the map presence she brings)

Yasuo seems like he's going down the same road, what with the ability to get to his late game powerspike off of two items instead of 3 now (which is a ridiculously huge buff, 100% crit on two items is absolutely stupid imho). He can survive any lane match-up, and even when he comes out behind in some of them, he can always come back just by farming to his two items. His ult single-handedly decides teamfights alot of the time, and I do believe people are rapidly realizing that now that Bloodlust only affects champions, Fervor is a far more annoying prospect to have to deal with. I don't think Yasuo is broken. I think that the ability to get to 100% crit off of two items IS. So I really feel like Statik shiv should have it's crit chance lowered again, or his passive should give less returns per percentage of crit

For a champion that's really safe Yasuo seems to die a lot.
