Placements Make no sense
Placed Silver V last season, did placements got bronze 3 off 5-5, my friend went 3-7 on placements, ended Silver 4, got Silver 5. So i won more games then him, but he dropped 1 division, I dropped 3 makes no sense

It's all mmr based, and whatever 5 tends to have a big mmr range, since silver 5 can be anywhere from bronze 4 mmr to arbitrarily high mmr given enough dodges to avoid promotion.
From the sounds of things, your friend ended the season with a higher mmr than you, even if your ranks looked similar.
Nobody knows how the system works, people just pretend to / want to sound cool. As always, it is impossible to say whether something in that system makes sense or not, since, we don't know.
It serves one purpose only: make you play more. It is usually very successful (the people who complain the loudest are the ones who will play the most games in the shortest amount of time :)).
