Shen: A "No Glory" Champ?

I've been spamming Shen in Normals over the weekend. He's a lot of fun, can Ult to Bot and turn fights... after that he's mostly a Taunt bot with a split push capability/global.

However, I feel he is a "no glory" champ.

  1. Damage dealt is unbelievably low even in your best games (both total and dealt to champions, its SUPER low)
  2. You can't have more Assists than a competent Support
  3. Damage dealt to objectives is unbelievably low

The low damage makes sense I suppose since he's a Tank (not even a Fighter).

Is he a "no glory" champ or am I supposed to manage at least the most Assists if I play better?

Shen is a ninja, he's not supposed to be noticed.

He still feels more useful than Zed though.

A SINGLE Taunt into 2 or more enemies can win the late game (I've had a few of those games yesterday). Its just unfortunate that his bragging rights in terms of Assists and Damage is near non existent.

Half the time when playing Shen, I feel like I am basically a Piccolo from DBZ.

Someone who's main goal is to protect/train/advise/facilitate the chosen ones (the actual Carries). I have a lot of power early on in the arc (ex when I Ult bot early or sometimes win trades in lane against bad opponents) but late game... its really up to the Gohans and Gokus to carry. I'm just one of the filler dudes. I won't even have a high enough Assist count (though maybe I can improve on that).

Basically a No Glory character lol

Shens power is in the stand united global TP w/ the big shield and also his taunt which as you said can win a teamfight, like most tanks he's more team dependent but good shen players can come thru huge for the team. Elder dragon spawning but you need to push out top or lose a turret? No problem for shen, he'll go top and still come thru and save the teamfight.

Tanks are rarely gonna be the "glory" champ that gets the triple kill in the game winning teamfight, but that doesn't make them any less impactful as a well played zac/nautilus/shen/galio ulty can completely turn around a team fight and its always nice to have a beefy frontline.

So am I supposed to be peeling or diving more often (or both)?

Whichever is more important in the circumstance.

And ulting with someone for a 2~3 man Taunt feels soooo good and your teammates will love you. Same if you save someone with R (well, it won't feel as good but they'll still love you).

Also, if you build bruiser/dps Shen you can actually splitpush effectively as you'll be able to duel and kill a lot of enemies. You'll also be able to win lane much harder.
