As a Platinum 1 player...
The queue times are so damn long. They feel punishing, even. When your queue times begin to feel like you are in a LPQ, there's a problem, especially if you aren't even high ELO.

maybe its because of the decrease in solo queue players that quit the game?
It's honestly sad that the game is in such an unplayable state that this can be considered a realistic conclusion.

I haven't even touched ranked this season.
30 min Q time > 30 min game against tank Ekko Kappa
plat 2, pick support, animation doesn't even have time to play before q pops LOL
Same in plat 5, going mid lane though puts me thorough a 15 minute queue.
Wonder if changing the word ''support'' for ''roamer'' or something of the sort make the role more appealing to some people..
I main support.
I've never heard of these "queue times" you people speak of.
Plat IV Jungle/Top, average queue time 10 mins for a game vs a 3 man premade. Amazing system.
I once got an 18 min Q as mid/jungle. I am silver 1 lul. Most of the time it hits the 10min bar
Diamond 5 here. What is your definition of long? Mine are 2-7 minutes on average with some 15 minute outliers, and I'm okay with most of them since most are less than 6 minutes.
I'm getting queue times between 7-13 minutes.
Very rarely, but it does happen, I'll get 2-3 minute queues.
Once I got a 23 minute queue.
well, I won't lie, there have been times where I reset a queue after 15 minutes for another 15 minute queue for some ridiculous total times, but it's usually not so bad. I'm assuming you don't have any bot lane roles as either of your picks.
No, I sadly main mid and top. But this doesn't constitute the punishing queue times. Team Builder did the job better, even.
Team builder let you play with bronze and silver which is always abundant.
Now narrowing it down to plat only...
I get 20 minute queue times regularly in Gold 1.
I get 20 minute queue times regularly in Gold 1.
Gold V and I'm getting 10 minute + So I think it's spreading to lower elo.
I get 30 second queue times in blind pick
Yeah, it's a good thing ranked is blind pi- oh wait.
My main is silver 5 and I got a 17 min que for top jungle. I played dr mundo and had 10cs per min, but my team was 0-30.
After that crushing defeat I play on my level 6 unranked smurf, and had fun with ap nunu.
Thanks rito.
I wish riot would read and understand the sad state of their game.

Top to bottom a lot of people hate the new system, but a few Rioters who really pushed the new match making system will have to eat crow before it dies.
A lot of major companies have bad ideas that take forever to get repealed. Usually a "golden child" employee started it so people were afraid to say no.

Lyte was a big part of the team working on dynamic queue (if not the team lead). So basically we are stuck with it because Riot thinks he is a literal genius.
I guess it's getting harder for matchmaking to find solo players since most of them ditched. But don't worry, Riot will soon make it so gold 5 can be paired against plat 5 and diamond 5 can be paired with plat 5. Because instead of putting solo queue back out there, we're gonna let them game die! Woo!
Actually, they want to make it so parties can pair with other parties in queue. For example: 3 get into select, during this time, group of 2 enters queue. Dodge in the 3's group, goes back into queue. Currently the 3 and 2 groups would not be matched up ever, instead awaiting new arrivals into the queue.
I just love it whne people try to use their rank to make people listen. And look they sure enough do. Close minded folk. Regardless of rank people can still have positive and negative things to add to discussion but only thing peopel is search up rank and disregard w/e they are saying when its not gold+. sad
You missed the entire point of him stating rank.
I've had 15+Minute Queues!!!! . . . . . (Silver 5)
Every solo player I know has stopped playing League...
People are leaving this game. Hence longer queues. This season is trash.
C'mon dude, they're not that bad. Who doesn't love watching qt dyrus and Dom sit in queue for 45 minutes to play a 20 minute game?
There was a post by Riot recently where they explained that the matchmaker puts each player into a game-being-assembled when they join the queue. Once the matchmaker finds ten players to fill that game, then the queue will pop. Now, if I've understood this correctly, it means that if you end up getting placed into a game that already has a premade group in it, then the matchmaker needs to wait until an appropriate second premade group enters the queue, to place on the other team and try to balance out the premade on your team. That is much rarer than just finding enough solo players at the appropriate rank. Riot plan to patch this by allowing it to take people who have been in queue for a while out of games that aren't getting started and into games that will start.
To cut a long story short - if you're stuck in the queue for a while, cancel and requeue. You will often find a game much, much faster this way.
I can confirm that this works in Gold, unsure about the higher ranks. I haven't put in the effort to get back up to platinum this season yet.
That is true, and as a programmer, i am offended by this. This kind of algorithm is so outdated, I don't think even Facebook used that stuff when they started.
But it shows you how little effort they put on recruiting good programmers. If at my company, a fiasco like the DQ and the roles would happen, I won't just be fired, MY ENTIRE TEAM would be fired. I would probably would have to move abroad to get another job!
Agreed, if I understood correctly then it's a little incredulous.
The only reason I can think of for doing it like this is scalability - it needs less processing to only do a few matches each time a player joins - but are there really that many players joining the game? Some rough calculations suggested to me that there are roughly 10,000 players joining the queue per second (in EUW, the largest shard, at peak times.) With some quick pre-filtering to sort those into rough MMR ranges, the matches get much smaller (probably 300-600 players per second, depending on which MMR band.)
A lot for a human, but it would be no problem for a computer (especially a heavy-duty server) to crunch those numbers and re-compare all the players in each queue segment, say once per second, using an algorithm to pick those in the queue longest first, try their primary roles first, then their secondary roles, and continue on down the list.
Moreover! there are FREE and OPEN-SOURCE solutions for exactly these kind of systems! Like Apache Spark or whatever Google has(forgot the name). Even since I quitted the game, I actually tried to find time to start working on an algorithm in Python, with a working MMR-Queue-like simulation, send it to Riot, being offered a job - Just to reject them. They don't deserve this amazing dedicated community(look i'm still here wtf)
Platinum 1 is high elo what are you talking about thats nearly diamond 5
I consider Diamond 3 and up to be high ELO. That's about the top 1% of players, while Plat 1-Diamond 4 are about the top 2%-1%.
I consider bronze a high elo......................
The way I look at it is that the higher the rank you are, the higher the standards for "high ELO" are. That always gives me incentive to climb higher. Back when I was in gold 2, I constantly thought Platinum 5 would be my skill (and rank) cap, as I thought those rankings were high ELO. It just differs as you improve.

The role doesn't suck, people just don't understand it as well, so think it sucks.
It is just less obvious what makes you "carry" as support.
I have to admit, I enjoy playing support, but it gradually gets more and more boring as you play it most of the time if you queue up with it. I used to main mid/support, but this season, I've learned how to top lane enough to the point where I don't feed hardcore. It really sucks having to hope I get mid lane every single game.
Gold III support main speaking, queue times were ridiculously short when I played ranked earlier this season (always play solo), but the chance of getting a half-decent team is larger this season than last and it usually turns into a stompfest that you can't do anything about as a support.
Stopped playing ranked/normals all together just recently. One less support main for Riot to hoard.
I am a D5 support main and my Q times are usually 15-45 seconds. Only time it is longer than a minute is when people jump. Not even kidding. Yesterday I had 2 back to back instantaneous Q pops. Support is seriously messing up the match making...
Sadly not everywhere. Depending on the time, I can wait several minutes as support primary. Once I had to wait 8 minutes (until I quit the queue) with FILL as secondary.
You know its bad when you wait 6 minutes for a game at level 10
