Why not balance Zed by making his shadows' abilities do 50% damage?

The Taco Kat··90 votes·3,034 views

...Or make it 30%/40%/50%/60%/70% based on W rank? Something like that? Why are you buffing when multiple things hit a target? He already has the energy return incentive to try and hit multiple abilities; don't give him another.

He's a bit op, you don't need to make him worthless

LordGeovanni5 votes

he only needs to hit 1 shuriken a combo to mess up your day this wont make him worthless just less of a go to because he wont be completely broken anymore

The Taco Kat7 votes

I'm not saying to implement this exact percent. I'm simply saying use this as an idea and go somewhere with it. Make it 60%/70%/80%/90%/100% for all I care; just weaken his early game.

Hide behind your minions when all of his abilities go through minions.... GOT IT, CAP!

VasilisGreen3 votes

and damage falls off RAPIDLY when it hits a minion...

billxx2 votes

Not like it massively decreases the damage or anything. Check your facts

VentusDragoon4 votes

It does, but that doesn't mean he can't throw the SHADOW through minions, or hit you with his E that doesn't have the damage fall off...

billxx2 votes

If he is throwing the shadow through creeps, that means he is walking up and is asking for you to hit him basically

VentusDragoon1 votes

The shadow can be thrown about 4 teemos away from him. That's plenty of room.

billxx1 votes

That shadow is also his only escape

The Taco Kat1 votes

Although that's his only escape, he has a high base movement speed, which can sometimes save him when his shadow is down.

billxx1 votes

True, but if you or your jungler has any cc you should be fine if he doesn't have his shadow

Why not buff the part that needs the biggest effort and has the biggest downtime IF nerfs come elsewhere? Why is it bad to force Zed into useing his W offensive and actually aim his shit in order to deal meaningfull damage?

Do you prefer him spaming Q all day and facerolling after his ult and beeing succesfull with it?

Unless you're melee, him spamming Q without a shadow wont hit as reliably.

Sire Hippington2 votes

Which is what makes landing more than one shuriken the most unreliable part, as he needs to hit his normal shuriken ontop of the shadow one, which as you said is unreliable, and he can only atempt it once his W is up, which has a rather high cd early on. For every W+Q. zed will throw ~3-4 normal Qs because of the cd difference.

I do agree zed's a little bit broken right now, however, it is incredibly difficult to balance him to a point where everyone will be happy, perhaps impossible. He always does a bit too much damage here, or slightly too little here, or his ult just pops a bit too heavily. It's practically impossible to fully balance zed. It's just, his kit is incredible, very complex on how it works both in damage and mechanics. It's best to leave him a bit strong, just a small bit, than leave him completely useless. Because of his highly snowball-y kit. If he is left a tad weak, anyone that plays him will have a disadvantage no matter what. But if he's a tiny bit strong, it deviates the gap between a good zed and a just plain bad one.

Voluug134 votes

So, you mean Zed should be feast/famine like other (less obnoxious) assassins instead of being reliable in lane?

Because, yes, feast/famine assassins are not that fun to play against when they get fed, but IF they get fed its 100% your fault, instead of being some kind of ''swim against the current'' and ''posponing the inevitable'' hybrid that is when Zed is picked.

An assassin should not be reliable due to the same nature of being an assassin.

No it's not for one simple reason, 1 person gets to play him while 5 have to deal with him. If Zed is truly hated by the majority of the community (85% banrate suggests this) then the best course of action is to leave him worthless and unviable.

Sp33d Zer02 votes

Not worthless and unviable, but at a point where He's not overbearing for the squishies that JUST had their counters to him nerfed through QSS and Zhonyas.

If it comes to what you describe at the end there, Zed could become the old Fiora again - worthless in the game if he gets slightly behind, legendary if they can farm perfectly and stay ahead.

Um, because balance is weakness?

Lol, but for a real suggestion: #Let the shadow missile speed scale with rank.

Yeah I get it he's probably one of the most annoying champs to play against. I personally don't think he's really all that op and winrates show that too. Do this, and he's gutted. It should be fizz your worried about

1Manchester1 votes

Winrates of 50% are from plat+ if Im not mistaken . Amd with a 85% ban rate the few times when Zed is picked the enemy team is totally builded to counter Zed and mid lane is obliged to go with a flash exhaust . So yeah I think his win rate totally shows how much of OP he is right now . I dont want to build my team based on only one champion on enemy team leaving other lanes uncountered and making the game hell and unfun .

TotalJerk1 votes

That gives him less incentive to use his shadows offensively at all. Using his shadows to harass, farm, and trade should be encouraged because it makes him vulnerable afterward.

Death Ray1 votes

Why not make his shadows heal people. It's kinda obvious that there is alot of biased voting going on, no matter how stupid the idea is, if it's a zed nerf it gets tons of upvotes.

It will be almost impossible to properly balance Zed simply because of the ridiculous amount of mobility he has in his kit. It makes it almost impossible for a skillshot based champion to really fight him 1v1 in a reasonable manner, especially if Zed all-ins them because between his ult mobility and his W mobility its practically impossible to land a skillshot on him.

Riot may think he represents a good example of a health assassin, but theyre going to have to rework his kit to have less mobility if they want people to stop hating on Zed all the time, which will open the door for proper balancing. As it stands, he spends so much time banned (even when he isn't considered inherently OP) that it doesn't really matter what changes they make because they'll never get a large enough pool of data to see how those changes pan out.

Of course, then there are the changes that clearly make him seriously problematic, such as the QSS nerf vs Zed ult, that they let go live without any sort of nerf in return. Their decision making is extremely strange sometimes.

his mobility is what allows him to be a healthy assassin. Every other assassin (Thinking rengar, talon, leblanc) has almost no counter play, and much higher burst than zed, people have just always been bias against zed even though he has a healthy design for an assassin. Like you can outplay and dodge zed's abilities, but rengar, lb, talon? Hell even with fizz with w+q+thunderlords proc and ignite can one shot an adc.

Yea he's totally healthy, that's why people hate those 3 more and ban them instead, oh wait.

like i said in earlier posts, and what riot has also stated. His power level isn't that high, but his frustration level is extremely high.

The frustration level is part of his healthiness so he's the opposite of healthy, he is an abomination which shouldn't exist.

You're argument is poor. Fizz has to find a way to maneuver himself to actually get to the adc or squishy which can prove to be difficult. It can also cost him his life if trickster is used too early, his ONLY means to escape and flash. Talon? just pink ward and gg he's dead. What escape does he have? Rengar, if he doesn't snowball he's almost useless. He also has a exclamation mark above your head that tell us if he's nearby and his jump, if you can react quick enough, can be cancelled costing him his life. His ult is also his only means of escape and can be pink warded. But let us talk zed. Push R, which we cannot be averted anymore unless you have a zhonyas and just pushes 2 buttons and then teleports back to shadow. If you chase it's fine cause he can do this again with other shadow. He's got Huge wave clear and split push potential. Does leblink have that too? Riot made a poor decision with QSS. I get it counters Zed's ult but grievous wounds counters mundo's and Swayne's ult, and can easily stop vlad or akali from healing. So why was that not removed?

SpongebobIsLife1 votes

Any of the above mentioned champions can delete you instantly with little to no counterplay. Zed on the other hand, you know where he is going to land when the death mark animation finishes, and he is required to further attack you and land his abilities in order to assassinate. Ergo he has the longest assassination in the game with the one exception possibly being ekko. The reason why he has that wave clear that other assassin's don't have, is because assassination wise, he is weaker than the rest. Also, your argument for fizz is the same for zed. Actually, fizz is a lot more mobile. Zed's safety is why his damage is lower and harder to achieve than that of other assassin's. Zed is considered healthy by riot because he, along with ekko, are the only assassin's that give the person of whom he is a assassinating a chance to fight back.

VasilisGreen1 votes

If you make his Shadows hit for 50% damage then you should not make the multiple hit fall of at all. If you make the multihit fall off in damage then the base ability should be disgustingly strong. this doesn't make for a healthy gameplay at all.

Photos of Ghosts1 votes

Only if multihits are amplified instead of reduced.

While this isn't a bad idea but I don't think its in the right direction. That would force a Zed to max W first which he only uses to poke, escape, or engage when it is up which isn't something he needs at lvl 6 with his ult. Here is my idea which could help balance him. First give the nerf to his ult to make him actually have to sit there and do damage to the champion he wants to assassinate so that target actually has time to burst him down or the team can cc him down. Then nerf the percentage required on his passive to proc it... Then Remove the slow on his E so it takes a bit more skill to stay on the target or to catch him or to land his q.

i hate him but thats pretty brutal.

well when I meant about the ult change is that change they had on the PBE before they Reverted it. That change would of been great start in the right direction. The q change was the first step but Riot is scared to take the second step for no reason.. Well there is reason but to restate that Zed is riots favorite champion would be pointless because everyone know this to be true but for the changes wouldn't be brutal it would submit that you had to be veteran zed player to do very well while the average zed player couldn't just win lane because he could press R and e auto Ignite and that is enough to kill. Lets be honest, an average Zed can barely land those qs but the changes doesn't make it completely impossible for them to do well either.

alfavhunter1 votes

Zed Q damage down by 50% for base and scaling

Zed shadow now passively increases Q damage by 20/40/60/80/100%

This means LVL 1 shadow his Q will do 60% damage of current value, only after shadow is LVL 5 does it go back to live values

This heavily reduces his damage early game, letting. Him keep his safety in exchange for a much more delayed power spoke

Alternative idea

Zed Q loses 50% damage, landing Q marks the target with menacing shadows Menacing shadows - causes zeds next shuriken that hits you to deal 100% bonus damage , this debuff lasts 10 seconds

This means if zed lands one shuriken he won't do much damage, if he lands Q and shadow Q he will still deal decent damage, if he lands Q then a Q+shadow Q he will deal live damage values

This means getting hit by one won't be overly devastating as it is now, but if he keeps hitting you with them then it will hurt like love values do

This is further effective by making zed want to land a Q on his "kill target" before he ults and goes in to return his kill potential to love for the ult combo

This puts more feast famine onto zed for having to land his skill shots (even with his ult) to deal meaningful damage because now he has to land a Q before going in with ult for it to deal decent damage

While at the same time this will be a minor nerf to zeds that can reliably land thier shuriken

"This will separate the good zeds from the great zeds"

Toplane Fencer1 votes

IMO, Don't change his 1v1 potential - nerf his obnoxious waveclear. Maybe make his q do 75% damage to minions? Not sure about the exact number that would be good but w/e.

Mandang01 votes

I don't mind putting more of his skills' strength on conditionals, but Riot honestly needs to just NERF Zed rather than beating around the bush with compensated hits.

Riot talks all the time about his winrate, but they never mention that his winrate is happening in the context that he's the champ everyone's expecting to play against. If I told you Galio and Zed had the same winrate right now, which champ do you think is stronger? I picked those just for the sake of the argument, but the point holds in general.

Dethkilr1 votes

Make his passive stop working on minions. This will make his laning a bit more fair and will likely lead to him having less farm and being more dependent on kills. Of course this won't really hurt people who can actually farm though.

Kaioko1 votes

I like the idea of his shuriken doing less damage but having multiple shurikens do more damage honestly. Zed players that just shadow Q definitely do need to be penalized but if he properly places his shadow so that both it and him hit me he deserves the damage for doing the tougher play.

They should also remove that random slow the e has. Like, without it, I would play Zed the exact same way I do now

What I don't get is why does his W require him to be within a certain distance to tp back yet his ult does not?

I feel like if he had to be in a certain distance to tp back to his ult it'd make ulting a lil' bit more strategic than just pressing R twice and getting an easy kill. If you don't pay attention and go in too deep, you are screwed, which is how it should be with assassins.

They should be able to get in kill the target and get out but should be able to be punished if they mess up. All Zed needs to do is go in, press R, press R again, boom kill and he's out with only a few scratches. You can't even prevent it, unless you are a mage with zhonyas and the cooldown happens to be up. If you are an adc, well....rip you.

Assassins are supposed to be strong, yes, but with Zed you cant even stop him. It is inevitable.
