Why Azir Nerfs are Unnecessary
So about these "extreme" Azir nerfs on PBE right now. There are several reasons why I'm a little disgusted by them.
Riot, do you even play Azir? In 5.3 you nerfed to crap a huge paradigm of his kit: range. One of the main things that makes Azir Azir. It was so bad it made the champion useless even with his knockup and shield that you're now considering nerfing, and so you had to apologize for the nerf in the patch rundown for 5.4. IT WAS THAT BAD. So why would you now think that nerfing any of these other core aspects of his kit (his CDR scaling, E ability, and Q damage) is going to be better and healthier for this champion? Instead of addressing the ACTUAL issue with Azir that it seems to me people dislike - early game harass and damage (BS imo, look at Yasuo and Cassiopeia) - they want to just nerf everything else about him that makes him function. Nerfing the CDR passive is actually hugely problematic because now you have no real incentive to build CDR which you absolutely require for your sustained damage kit - another core, central concept to this champion. So if you change this aspect of his damage output you should probably give him more burst so that he doesn't just sit in the back line and slowly rot as his team blows up in front of him (OH HANG ON GUYS COOLDOWNS). But wait, you guys want to possibly nerf his Q damage more. So scratch that idea. Just please don't give us joke compensation like 2 AD as you did last time. That was literally insulting.
Azir is already really hard to play. This is pretty universally accepted, except by people who have never played Azir (usually those who complain the most about him). Perhaps this is why lowly me in Silver V never see anyone attempt Azir besides myself. And usually I'm the only one who can carry a game with him, maybe because I've put in hundreds of games with this champion since his late release. (Oh yeah, that happened too) I hear all the time people saying that Azir is only good for people who take the time to really learn and practice him, and that those people tend to have a high winrate with him. So how does that translate into "Let's nerf the piss out of him again"? (Because let's be honest, the only nerf here that would be tolerable is the Q damage, all other suggested nerfs are absolutely devastating) Doesn't that mean he's working properly??? I thought that's what Azir was supposed to do: carry games. He is a "late game hypercarry" after all (Rito's words, not mine). So if people who are skilled with Azir are carrying games but people who aren't skilled aren't carrying games yet, how is that a bad thing? I don't know, it just frustrates me to see them basically untouch Ryze's super broken perma root when he's the easiest mage in the game, but then even consider nerfing the crap out of Azir who is barely played well by anyone who isn't Easyhoon, Faker, or Pawn. Like... I don't get it. If anything, I feel he's undertuned in some ways and still needs QoL buffs for those of us who are either A.) not gaming gods, or B.) Asian (read as, "gaming gods")
Who is paying this balance team this season anyway? WHAT ARE SOME OF THESE CHANGES??? And why all the hate towards anything good in midlane this season? I'm still fairly new to the game (I started playing around when Azir was released) so maybe I just don't get that either, but it seems to me midlane in general has received tons of hate from the balance team this season.
