Riot, You are wrong about Toxicity

ZeeWolfZ··93 votes·3,980 views

Riot, you've claimed toxicity lowered Since the Dynamic Queue. You are absolutely wrong.

In all my 4 seasons of this game, I have NEVER experienced Toxicity as high as I experience every time I am on.

I've dealt with MANY players, but I have NEVER had to deal with so many Silver Border players who are in high plat due to their DQ boosted accounts. These players are toxic beyond understanding. These Plastic players are worst of the worst and are not mentally ready to handle the Pressure of higher elo games.

Plastics expect games where one side wins while not realizing that both sides are made up of capable players. Watch them die once they will throw blame on EVERYONE except themselves. To make matters worse, Plastics will make sure that others are feeling their irritation by throwing aggressive taunts.

In champ select, before the match starts, you will see many 3s premades already attacking other players: Calling them names and putting their morale down. Once inside the match, the Solo Queue players feel extremely pressured and will perform poorer.

This system you've designed is absolutely unfair to Plat+ players. Heck, to everyone. This system is so chaotic and toxic.

I've NEVER before heard lines like:

  • You are a worthless n*gger and you should kill yourself.
  • Kill yourself.
  • You are solo queue garbage.
  • Please choke yourself.

Before Dynamic Queue stress was high but never at such levels.

You've created an absolute worst System possible in the Ranking ladder, where teams of 3s are Attacking their teammates for laughs and their own entertainment.

You've made a mistake and you've been putting a bandaide on it for too long.

Did Riot really state toxicity has decreased since DQ? That's funny.

ZeeWolfZ14 votes

Yes. It has been an official Riot's post claiming that Dynamic Queue reduced toxicity. Taking them some time to realize that premades abuse, troll, afk, and worse around Solo Queuers.

The Whamboozler28 votes

Yeah... they did. It was so misguided I laughed my ass off for five minutes straight as I uninstalled my game and picked something new to play that hadn't been run into the ground buy over a year's worth of awful decisions.

Indeed, might only be my personal experience but I've never experienced the game to be trollier or more toxic than it is now. At the start of the season things were pretty calm and it was looking to become a pretty decent season in regards to toxicity, probably due to the introduction of NCS. But people have gotten past that now, DQ as a system and premades has had their impact and now the game seems to be getting more and more toxic by the minute.

Yes, they did. It was even an official front-page-of-home-screen post, too. It's awful how little Riot respects their community.

The toxicity you speak of is lower than in SQ. The only reason people think it's higher now is because your mentality is negative. You won't accept premades and you think that they don't accept you. You both on neutral grounds with each other but you're both ready to blow up the moment someone says something negative about the other party. Then the traditional flaming starts, the very same form of toxicity that existed even in SQ. Of course, solo players then feel outnumbered and put their tails between their legs for something that could have easily been avoided and then this all gets blamed on premades and exposed as a form of bullying and banding up against a poor, innocent solo player who didn't do anything wrong.

If toxic solo players exist, so do the toxic premades. Don't try to blame all of this on a single party and attempt to paint a picture how the other side of the argument is for peace and equality. We all know this isn't true. All of the negative behavior that existed in SQ exists here as well as premades are nothing more than solo players who don't play with random people anymore.

cope moment3 votes

I'll agree that solo players could be toxic too, but at the same time, it's much easier for premades to be toxic due to them all being on the same side from the start

This is EXACTLY why i never touched ranked and instead found 4 other active players and played normals with the most retarded team comps for laughs. The best one we have so far is: Orianna J4 Nunu galio Illaoi literally all use their ults in this order: O>J>G>N+I ACE thats the only fun you can have nowadays

This season was my worst by far. I had a few bad experiences during my climb to Gold 3 during Season 3(?, I forget maybe it was Season 4), but it was nothing compared to this Season's. It has seriously made me contemplate quitting League. The only problem right now is that I have yet to find a good game.

try Battleborn, thats what I've been playing.

ForeverLaxx2 votes

Battleborn, with its 300 players at peak hours, is functionally a dead game. You can enjoy it, but it's not going to last for much longer unless something drastic happens.

Arthimetes1 votes

Dead or not I personally still find it fun and enjoyable.

Battleborn if you like mobas. Hell, Smite or Heroes of the Storm exist too.

There's also Overwatch if you like shooters and competitive games, it's a solid game with pretty decent balance and the devs notice and fix problems FAR faster than Riot seems to. On steam there are a pile of good time-sink games to pick up. Rocket League for furious action and fun. Brawlhalla or Rivals of Aether for smash-style beat-em-up games. I personally love Darkest Dungeon, but then I'm a raging nihilist and I enjoy the choking atmosphere of it and how brutally it drags you into the mud, kills all your friends and then drowns you. In the same vein, Dark Souls 3 still rocks.

There are a ton of games you can pick up that are probably more worth your time than league right now.

I've played a lot of those games. They're not good. I dislike Smite because of too much invincibility and CC immunity. I only enjoy Arena, Joust, and Clash (basically the team fighting focused maps). Overwatch's balance has gone to shit with recent patches to the point it feels like there's only maybe 10 viable heroes. Far too many of them have been nerfed to oblivion while a few remain absurdly overpowered. Heroes of the Storm is insanely grindy and almost as bad as League with rune pages and rune purchases to unlock heroes.

The only games as of late I've taken interest in are Attack On Titan and Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel.

Played Aatrox jgl with a 4 man premade. I called jgl. They literally said nothing in the champ select chat. They just picked their champs. In-game, the mid laner and top laner died almost immediatly. They started blaming me. I said I needed to farm, cuz I'm Aatrox. I tried ganking their top lane(even though it was warded) but it didn't work out. Cuz forcing ganks tends to never work out. Next thing that happens is 3/4 premades were telling me to "kys" "uninstall League" etc. etc. Strangely enough, the Vayne ADC was quiet the whole game.

Toxicity has only ever increased for 6 straight seasons. Why would any one believe riot on this topic?

Dessem3 votes

I haven't found my queues to be more toxic than they were in 2015. If anything, I find them more enjoyable due to role selection only very rarely being a problem resulting in toxicity (which it would've done otherwise anyway).

I haven't experienced premades being excessively more toxic than solo players either. "KYS" was one of the first things I was told getting into this game; I don't think it's particularly new.

I think I'm beating a dead horse at this point, but the thought process of Riot was to milk money out of groups of casuals by trying to make ranked less stressful for group players, due to them being more likely to buy skins for a multitude of reasons. I think Riot realized they're bleeding players, especially in the higher divisions of play. I think the reason they refuse to revoke the change in Bronze-Gold is to still milk money out of it.

Riot didn't ruin the game with DQ. The toxic playerbase did. They are the ones that abuse the system and ruin it for everyone.

Riot just wanted the game to be more team oriented.

Isn't it kind of a problem when the change you make to increase efforts to enforce teamwork turns out to actually decreased the amount and consistency of teamwork that occurs?

I'm fairly certain that would be what the kids these days call irony.

TyrekGoldenspear3 votes

Well all I'm saying is that it isn't all Riot's fault.

I mean, we all know they meant well. Their heart was in the right place, do people honestly think that Riot wants to ruin its own game? That's ridiculous. What people should be saying is Riot is changing the game in a way that they dont like and its ruining it for them, and that's fine. They can feel that if they want to.

But all this hate directed at Riot is completely unwarranted. They aren't out to get us and they aren't trying to kill their only game.

And yes I recognize the irony. It's quite ironic.

Here's how they're "right" by abusing statistics. When a pre-made reports someone it counts as 1 person. So when a premade of 4 flames someone and they mass report, it's only 1 report that game. Data wise, there's less toxicity. Reality wise? Way more.

MonkeyMadness2 votes

I will explain Riot's faulty logic. If someone else has already said this, then I apologize, I don't have the patience to peruse all the comments.

Toxicity is measured (at least in Riot's eyes) by report volume and ban percentages. These values are INCREDIBLY lower this season than in previous years. This is because of one very simple fact: PREMADES WILL NOT REPORT EACH OTHER. Or at least VERY infrequently. Now, Riot would have you believe that as long as the single solo player that gets systematically abused by the premade reports toxic players, a ban will still result. However, we all know that is utterly false, as the ban bot will only review players that have a "statistically higher than average" number of reports. This results in premades being given much more leniency in terms of toxicity, and solo players getting raked over the coals every time they say something "negative" to would be abusers.

I know Riot will absolutely never respond to this statement, but I would really like to know what excuses they have been trained to give when someone points out flaws as momentous as this.

Mirkhail1 votes

If i'm not mystaken the number or report are not taken into consideration, when someone report you the server register you have been reported that game, if you are often reported you will get punished.

MonkeyMadness1 votes

if you are often reported you will get punished.

Here is the key phrase. "Often" is at the discretion of the ban bot, when in fact severity of the offense should be the primary criterion.

Mirkhail1 votes

A bot can't distinguish very well between different severity, also false report are pretty common. If someone is often report for verbal abuse or trolling/feeding a bot can easily take action but if someone is reported one time, even if he did terrible and punishable things, a bot can't act. League of legends is too big and it would be impossible to manually check every report, a bot system is still flawed but better then nothing for now.

MonkeyMadness1 votes

You are generally correct, but let's use an example: say a player absolutely flies off the handle. They use a myriad of racial/homophobic slurs, tell other player to kill themselves, wish cancer on the enemy team, etc. Now, I understand that bad games happen, and one game like this should NEVER result in a ban of any kind, but the system should AT LEAST be warning the player that future behavior of this type will be punished, and maybe even hand out a chat restriction. Instead, nothing will happen unless a significant amount of players report him/her. And this is wrong.

Mirkhail1 votes

Verbal abuse is the fastest way to get punished, i had different friends who got punished with chat restriction and bans in less then a month, the system already tell you that you will get punished if you are reported (i got a warning one time).

MonkeyMadness1 votes

Ya, but did you get a warning for a single bad game or for a bunch of bad games? I am almost certain it was the latter.

Mirkhail1 votes

i can't be sure, the system probably delayed the message, i never got any punishment and i usually don't write much in chat, especially i try to avoid insults so i think that were mostly false reports or reports for something else. A warning for only one report that could be easily false isn't very effective.

MonkeyMadness1 votes

If you actually got a warning for false reports (which I am certainly not denying is possible) then the system is in utter disrepair.

Mirkhail1 votes

it's simply difficult do distinguish good ones from false one if that was my case, the warning was pretty simple, "someone reported you for x, , everybody can have a bad day but you have to follow the summoner code and don't get reported ". The message is probably automatic, a friend got that message because he was reported for verbal abuse, the fun thing is that he never wrote anything in chat, he only played with me and we used skype to communicate and except is role he never wrote anything. The system already try to adjust they weight of a report, if the report of someone was useful to punish someone else their report would have more value and vice versa, i also think they take in account how often someone report, for what reason and if the person they reported was already punished. They system isn't perfect and surely riot avoid to take measure if they aren't sure because they are afraid of false positives but with a game as large as league it's not easy, the system can be improved and i'm sure with proper feedback and a proper team riot could adjust it.

MonkeyMadness1 votes

It wasn't difficult to distinguish false reports from legitimate ones when the Tribunal was active and players evaluated the cases instead of the small team at Riot. Much fewer false positives and very little leniency. The only actual issue was that it was a rather slow process.

Mirkhail1 votes

i never experience the tribunal myself but if the tribunal reviewed every game report it would have been extremely slow but surely more effective, i have to read more about the old system to know his cons and pros.

MonkeyMadness1 votes

No, it didn't review every report, it used the exact same algoriths the current system uses to find probable cases of toxicity and bring them to a panel of players to vote on. So basically, no way to get banned for false reports.

What I'm saying is that if you are going to take the human element out of this, then the ban bot needs to be much more fine tuned. Riot doesn't see this.

UrPalAl2 votes

Am I literally the only one who hasn't noticed a difference at all this season after the initially shitstorm? (Speaking for bronze-plat)

Finn Teh Human2 votes

I agree. It's also getting people into higher elo's who really shouldn't be in higher elo's whether they're toxic or not. I've made a few posts saying that the premades are full of sh*t and if ONE OF THEM plays like shit I've had many of them just decide it's "gg" and troll. I'm tired of this. I want SOLO QUE back. I want my rank to reflect on how good I personally am as a player, how well I can work without a premade team.

Guy Fox Teemo1 votes

Well I think you're wrong and Riot the people with actual statistics to back up their facts and not just circle jerk posts, are indeed right

Xeruon2 votes

You do realize the surveys Riot released were full of loaded questions designed to skew statistics in their favor, right? The way the Ranked Emblems work also proves this.

Guy Fox Teemo1 votes

They can check toxicity without surveys what.... Its there own actual raw game data from chat logs, reports, etc.

NOthing to do with surveys AT ALL

Xeruon2 votes

Then how come there was next-to-nothing to back up their supposed statistics, can you explain that?

Riot knows that their system is a failure, but refuse to do anything about it except the odd bandaid here and there.

Personal aneccdotal evidence =/= the overall data Riot has.

Things being more toxic for you doesn't mean that toxicity hasn't been reduced.

Keep in mind the new champ select has prevented "mid or feed" behaviour that used to plauge the old solo queue having to work together to work out everyones role on the fly mode. That would cause clashes when people don't get thier prefered roles.

Most of Riot's statistics are twisted lies and general bullocks.

Weasel Kensei1 votes

OP is correct, Dynamic Q premades of 3+ get a lot of report shielding. Whats the solo player to do? Report everyone on his team. Most people forget to report, or in some cases report the innocent bully target of the premade believing their lies about feeding, afk, or whatever.

Ever see a TV show or movie where a kid was being picked on by a bully and the bully had two other kids standing behind/beside him? Thats what DynaQ trolls are. If reporting on toxic premades of 3 worked, then we woudlnt see them so much.

As for levels, Iv seen racial slurs far too much, and several people who try to start arguments to get people annoyed then those asshats go mid and feed 3-5 times then AFK. Im serious, there are some real assholes in this game, and part of the problem is low reporting (people hate the trolls but cant be bothered report so they can be avoided), and when its a premade of 3+ there are fewer people to report the toxicity.

Where does Riot think the assholes in the game went? They all formed premades and just stopped fighting with people and being assholes? No, there are just fewer reports on them because reports went from 1-4 reports every other game, to 1-2 reports every other game. Thats about half, so yay, toxicity down... bullshit bullet point statistic achieved, no actual change woo!
