So who is going to be the one to let Stashu know that Zyra doesn't have any DoT in her kit?

She used damage over time, but she wasn't the DoT mage-- Brand , Rumble , Swain , Zyra , Malzahar , and even Mordekaiser compete in many/all of these fields.

Never mind the fact that Cassiopeia is identified by her DoT far better than all the other DoT mages. Never mind the fact that Cassiopeia is the only DoT MAGE who can easily keep her Poison up 100% of the time unlike the rest of these champions listed. Never mind the fact that Malzahar's spells, despite having DoT, is played like that of a 100-0 burst mage. Never mind the fact that you put freakin BRAND in that list, whose sole source of DoT is his Passive that is only meant to be the "icing in the cake" in his burst-combo. Nevermind the fact that he chose Mordekaiser as an example of "DoT" mage.

No. Why did you choose Zyra as an example of a "DoT" mage?! Is it because if you build item 3151 on her, she does DoT? In that case, guess what, Veigar is so a DoT mage because if you build Liandries on him (don't), he gets DoT as well.

It's saddining that he doesn't know the difference between DoTs and DPS. It's as saddening that he compares DoTs to burst, concluding they're basically equal. Essentitally forgetting that DoTs dont stack but reapply, meaning that Cassio gains 0% DPS increase from CDR on her Q, while burst caster would receive up to 40%. Sadly Riot Stashu himself used the 3s CD on a burst spell- comparison to justify the insane nerfs. (Ignoring the fact that bursts can kill a weakened instantly, while DoTs allow firing back and livestealing back up)

Her plants, which are essentially a damage-over-time effect.

Heimerdinger, under that definition, is dot-like, too.

What about Yorick and his ghouls would that also be dot-like I wonder? Maybe Azir too with his soldiers?

Except it's not DoT in the end. That's essentially calling Shaco's box DoT when it's REALLY just consistent stream of attacks.

It'll be like calling an ADC "damage over time" because they can continuously attack the enemy with their auto-attacks over a period of time.

Essentially, yes, Shaco's box is a damage-over-time effect - the cast is one instance, but the damage comes in several instances, without you having to do anything beyond the first cast. You can do different things with your champion (like move/cast other spells/attack/dance), while still having the minions contribute to your DPS.

In that sense, yes, Zyra's plants, Yorick's ghouls, Shaco's Boxes and Clone, Annie's Tibbers, Malzahar's Voidling, Mordekaiser's Ghost, they all are damage over time effects, in the regard that they are abilities that are casted once, but then do damage (semi)-autonomously, without requiring further input from you as a player.

Heimerdinger's turrets and Elise's Spiderlings are kind of a grey area, as they are a persistent effect whose damage isn't capped by a duration. I'd still classify them as a DoT effect, simply because the add to your damage over time.

Azir, on the other hand, doesn't have an independant DoT effect - his soldiers only attack if he autos himself, too. For the same reason, anyone's auto-attack damage isn't classified as DoT, although you actually deal damage in several instances - you can't do anything else while auto-attacking.

Except even if those persistent damage have that one similarity to actual DoT(poison, Swain's QE, etc.), they are still fundamentally different on two very important levels.

  1. With the exception of Swain's Q, DoT's biggest point of satisfaction is that it will continue to eat away at the opponent's health even after they go out of range, there is no running away from it.

  2. The inherent feeling in applying DoT is fundamentally different from creating a turret. Just summoning a turret and running around to let it shoot the enemy conveys a completely different feedback from applying a mark or something on an opponent that continues to hurt them independent of what you do.

If you're a mage and not blowing someone up in one single combo, you're a DOT type mage.

Viktor and Vlad are so DoT mages...

Not even the old Viktor who actually did have a DoT upgrade was a "DoT mage"
