Ryze proves Riot needs to go FURTHER with reworks no matter how much it hurts.

Small scale reworks of problem champions tend to fail miserably in the long term.

The Ryze updates were so focused around "preserving" Ryze instead of building a functional combo mage with a strategic purpose they were net neutral at best. This pattern has continued for ALL the "problem champions".

The master Yi "Gameplay Update" basically removed the ungodly horror of AP Yi from the game and accomplished nothing else, Yi is still brings nothing but raw damage to a team and becomes increasingly useless against more skilled players. Everything that makes Yi useless in competitive and irritating in Solo Queue is still preserved.

In less ancient history all the Brand rework of 2016 did was make him slightly better in non competitive play and increased his use as a cheesy "Support". So long as his Ultimate relies on praying to RNG-sus I highly doubt he sees any tournament play. Riot REALLY needed to rebuild that Ultimate. Riot did not take the time to do that. Brand remains unreliable in a competitive scene that THRIVES on reliable picks.

Ditto for Vel'Koz, they moved some stuff around but didn't really move his gameplay forward.

Those are just a FEW examples in the long list of champions Riot has given gameplay updates with no real results.

Mordekaiser Obviously. Hundreds of posts have been written on why this rework failed. Skarner The new E is okay but the passive is a tacked on Bandaid solution and Q remains problematic. Needed more resources. Garen Didn't really FIX anything, tacked on the Villain system which a few people like?? Rengar If anything Rengar's first rework made him MORE frustrating. Kassadin Many reworks, little result very similar to Ryze. Olaf Huge ball of stats with an obnoxious ultimate before his rework, huge ball of slightly different stats with an obnoxious ultimate after his rework. Evelynn Pre rework not allowed to be good because permastealth, post rework not allowed to be good because permastealth. XinZhao Increased his skillcap slightly but solved none of the problems plaguing the champion. Tryndamere The "rework" that accomplished absolutely nothing. Jax Jax remains exactly what he was in season 1. A huge ball of steroids that eventually gets enough items to beat you to death if he can get near you.

Kayle Nunu and Udyr all received small updates that made them slightly less clunky but didn't really fix any of the underlying game health issues all 3 champions have.

Amen. I just get the feeling that people who rework the champions have very little experience with them

Ashe and Soraka's reworks were GREAT. Made a huge difference to what it feels like to play them. Mostly that I feel active now when doing so.

I agree. those champions are on the success list. Riot did very well with them.

Just so you know, Yi isn't supposed to do anything but bring damage. He's the archetypal melee carry: unless you handle him, he will mop the floor with you

So a Melee carry is supposed to stomp low elo while being useless in higher level play? I disagree. I think a Melee carry CAN bring some unique utility and be fairly Balanced at all ranks.

I don't think Riot has hit the formulae yet. But I do think it can be done.

This rework is. Previous reworks didn't go far enough.

I disagree with kassadin, he has became a pretty good anti-mage. His passive works wonders and he has to actually think about his blinks now. To me atleast, having played him since he was a god S3, he is were he should be and is fun to play. Hell, he even gets some pro play once in a while.
