With Preseason 7 right around the corner

Updating Marksmen Through the years, marksmen have lacked meaningful differences, with their identities typically centered on the same thing: do lots of damage from range. In cases like these, if you’re being judged on only one competition (damage), you get a pretty obvious power ranking with no real roster depth. Our goal is similar to our work with juggernauts, where we targeted a group of champions (in this case six marksmen - Corki, Miss Fortune, Graves, Caitlyn, Kog’Maw, and Quinn) who occupied similar strategic spaces, and gave them a little more ‘uniqueness.’ We’re doing this in two ways: how the marksman plays, and how the team plays with them. For the first, since marksmen are so concerned with their basic attacks we want to make sure each feels different. Should you have brought that shotgun to a javelin battle? Maybe! For the second approach, we want to really push the breadth of what a marksman offers. Much like how you pick Ashe for global stuns, or Sivir for when you gotta go fast, or Miss Fortune when you need some wombo for your combo, we want teams to think different based on who’s joining the fray.

A year ago, Riot announced Preseason 7 and the Marksmen update.

Since then, we have hated Graves, seen Kog ruin rageblade, MF arose as a dominant support, Corki wreaked havoc on the midlane whilst showing off his big package, and caitlyn trapped you under your turret and left you there to cry.

However, one thing people seem to overlook is that Riot really did nail it with the goal of making the marksmen feel unique. Corki is the go-to for Magic Damage and roaming playmaking. MF is great at controlling zones and punishing those who challenge her claims. Graves is a true scrapper, and also made one of the most lasting transitions into the jungle of any ADC. Caitlyn is the #1 Siege Queen (even though it doesn't fit her character at all which pisses me right the fuck off) Kog'Maw really did show off what a playable Fountain Laser feels like, and ultimately I am glad they realized he was perfect pre-rework. Quinn is the great tracker - finding you, chasing you down, and destroying you.

So as much as we see the Assassins being annoying and overpowered now, give it a bit of time, the end result should be great! GJ RITO!

Good to see threads like this. However...

MF arose as a dominant support

MF is a very weak support. There's only two reasaon why she was played on LCS

  1. She has good synergy with Ashe
  2. She counters Zyra hard.

In SoloQueue, she is a very bad pick (unless your ADC is Ashe and enemy support is Zyra, and even then I'm not sure if she's THAT good).

Other than that, I agree with what you said. +1

the issue is they're all too efficient and effective at what they do.

when ziggs was "oppressive" in season 4 going all ham with poke shoving you out of lane.

riot didn't hesitate to shrink the size of his Q

when talon repeatedly killed mid laners left and right with silence and reliable full combo...

riot removed the silence

adc's have negligible mana costs where back in the day corki could use 1 rotation and be donezo....

riot is neglecting the issues
