LP Gained And Lost Makes It Impossible To Climb

According to op.gg I currently have a 54% winrate, going by that alone I should be climbing and ranking up, even if slowly.

Almost every game I win I gain 17 LP, and almost every game I lose I lose 21 LP. I know because I see those numbers over and over again after every game.

Knowing this I decided to do some math. Lets say I have a 55% winrate over 100 games. 55 wins times 17 LP = + 935 45 loss times 21 LP = - 945

Even with a 55% winrate I would still lose more LP than I gained.

Lets say I have a 60% winrate over 100 games. 60 wins times 17 LP = + 1020 40 loss times 21 LP = - 840

Right now if I managed to get a 60% winrate I would only gain 180 LP over the course of 100 games.

Lets see what would happen if the amount of LP gained and lost per game was both 20 with my current winrate. 54 wins times 20 LP = + 1080 46 loss times 20 LP = - 920

If the amount of LP gained and lost was the same I would gain 160 LP over the course of 100 games. That's almost as much as if I had a 60% winrate right now.

After the ranked reset of 10 placement matches I won 7 out 10 and went from S3 to B4, I not much better than bronze, but I am better because during my climb back up to silver I had a 65% winrate, and even then with such a high winrate it still took me a little less than 100 games to get back to Silver.

Its literally impossible for me to climb at a decent rate unless I somehow get 60+% winrate. I understand that you should have a good winrate if you want to get anywhere, but I'm a low level player playing with other low level players that are at a similar skill level, just having a winrate above 50% should make me climb, the closer to 50% my winrate is the slower I would climb but I should still climb. The only players that have winrates above 60% are smurfs, no one that actually plays with people of a similar skill level has a winrate that high.

As much a unbalanced champions, weak towers, long death timers, and too few bans bother me, those are all problems I can work around in game, those are all challenges that I can overcome with mechanical skill, good decisions, game knowledge, and a positive attitude. What am I supposed to do about LP gained and lost? All that is a statistic, and with some basic math I proved that even if I win, I STILL LOSE.

I've done a lot of complaining about this game, but I realize now that LP gained and lost is by far the biggest problem, because out of all this games problems this is the one that immediately made me quit ranked as soon as I noticed it. this is the only one that mathematically proves I have zero chance of climbing.

How is LP gained and lost even decided? I've heard its determined by your teams mmr compared to the enemy teams mmr, but I find it impossible to believe that every team I lose the mmr score thing determines the appropriate LP loss to be 21, there's no way that every team I lose to is worth an exact loss of 21 LP. Same with winning, there's no way every team I beat is worth a gain of exactly 17.

The game is alright on its own, but the goal of getting LP and ranking up and the competition is what makes this game worth being more than just something to casually play.

I had always noticed that I lost more LP for losing games than I gained for winning games, but it wasn't until I did the math that I realized how serious of a problem it is.

The only solution for me is to only play Shaco, and never play any other champion, I have a 64% winrate with him over a decent number of games, but playing the same champion every single game would get boring no matter how fun they are to play.

This game is literally unwinnable, at least for me. I quit ranked and will now only be casually playing normals until something is done about this problem.

TL;DR LP gained and lost isn't the same and is a huge problem.

Ranked system is broken for lower elo's. The only reliable way to climb is spam op cheese champs and builds.

But riot doesn't care about low elo's, only high elos where the system functions correctly.

Part of it is that your current rank is higher than your current MMR. As you play more games and the winrate either improves or stays the same, your MMR should improve to the point where you are gaining more LP than you are losing.

My LP gained and lost has been 17/21 since the beginning of preseason, I don't think that's what it is. As it is now I've been S5 for about a month and my winrate has been 54-55% the entire time except when I first got back to silver from bronze, if my mmr hasn't caught up in a month then I doubt that's what the problem is.

Well sorry to break it to you but if you've been stuck in S5 for that long you should be getting that much lp i started S5 this season and made it out of silver in a little more than a week im in plat 4 promos atm.

Dude, you have a 58% winrate, if I had your winrate which isn't that much better than my current one, then in 10 games 5.8 x 17 = 98.6 4.2 x 21 = 88.2

I would get roughly 1 LP for each win, with a 58% winrate I would have to play 100 games to even make it to promos

I'm winning the majority of my games and losing LP, where you're winning the majority of your games and gaining LP. You went from S5 to P4 in about 200 games, that's an increase of 12 divisions. Unlike me you obviously get more than 17 LP per win and lose less than 21 per loss, because if I was in your situation with a 58% winrate and 200 games played I would only have climbed 2 divisions, from S5 to S3.

Oooooo I like the way you present your arguments well you right you right but are you Winning 1 and losing 1 at about the same day so lets say you win 2 and lose 1 your should technically be climbing, but now the problem here is when i was in like gold 4-3 and gold 3-2 i think i went on win streaks where i won about 3-4 in a row even more i think my highest win streak this season is 9 or 10 games so i was obviously climbing, but i remember last season i was stuck in silver and it took me a while to get into gold 5 i was getting 18 lp and losing 19 i believe. I eventually did get gold tho. I came into plat with a 61% win rate tho and at that point i was getting 28 lp and then i went and won 1 game and lost like 3 in a row won 2 then lost 3 more i went from getting 28 to 23 lp that quick in less then 10 games so sometimes i guess it can be hard to climb. Im explaining more of my experiences in ranked in the last season and a half I haven't been playing league very long.

The obvious thing to say is "Your MMR must be lower than your rank" but if you've been Silver 5 for this long then that is really strange, I've no idea what's going on for you. I would suggest sending in a support ticket but my experience with them in the past has been really negative - I'm pretty sure they'd just tell you "Just keep playing games and eventually you'll climb! :)". So I guess all I can say is try playing ranked for just a little longer and see if the situation improves at all... I wish you the best of luck.

RIOT FIX THIS!

MRPOO90901 votes

Well you guys are lucky, If i win I get 14 LP, and when I lose I lose 25 LP. My Zed Winrate is 55%. And I'm always carrying the team. I keep getting dropped to Bronze 5, I just climbed to B4 56 LP when I hit a 4 win streak. But I can't keep on playing with this shit MMR. Riot is making players like me want to quit the game. Its a terrible thing to do and they should fix it.

They say it's to prevent putting people in divisions they shouldn't be in, and part of that is true, but new accounts can skyrocket to diamond, whereas an established one will sit in gold for the same win/loss. It's already been proven that new accounts climb faster. The other end of the facet, is keep the low elo's sitting in low elo so they have a smaller pool of pro players to manage. This game isn't about the players at all anymore, it's about their championship series and how much money they can hold onto. I'm not terribly amazing at this game, it's fun, but I've watched diamond to master friends sit in gold because of trash gains and massive losses. It only takes a few unlucky games of feeders/afk/etc to destroy your MMR. I try not to invest as much time in this game anymore, I recently won 5 in a row, lost 2, I'm at 6 lp lol. Where is the incentive to try to climb? I feel your plight OP.
