Am I the only one that plays this game that dislikes fed tank more than fed carry?

xelaker··4 votes·461 views

I use tank as a blanket term, so just imagine majority of the items they build are defensive and they rely on build in stats for damage. They are soooooo much worse imo. Sure the adc is gonna do tons of damage and have lifesteal, but that mundo or darius is gonna have similar health regen with 1000+ health, not to mention armor and magic resist.

Not the popular opinion so all you top fellows feel free to downvote.

(I play support btw, so I usually don't do all the damages myself but you get the idea)

I need proof for these kinds of answers man. Can just hit me up with that kind of truth, without a lead in.

According to a study made by the Oxford University, they asked these 2 questions to one thousand people :

  • Do you play League of Legends?

  • If yes, is your ign "xelaker"?

Weeks later, we got the results. The majority of the people who answered yes to the first question answered no to the second.

If you're basing "tank" off of items, that's not actually a tank, that's just tanky. There is a difference. Darius and Mundo are tanky, but not tanks, and they're designed to deal more damage at the cost of mobility and CC, which is probably why people will disagree.

Just because someone buys tank items, doesn't mean they are a tank, DrMundo Darius LeeSin Renekton Urgot as some examples.

i beg to differ on that lee >.> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eA04nbviQ8E

the issue is that even tanky champions through items tank as much as real tanks, but still do massive damage, riot just made sub classes to evade whining players, so they won't have to nerf champions to how they should be..... its just a what riot wants is what happens and screw the players mentality.

Wow, that video sure proved me wrong..

Juggernauts, will concede, can tank a whole lot, but that's how they are balanced (little to no mobility, minimal CC, high damage, high durability).

The thing is if most champs build tanky, then they don't have nearly as much damage. If a diver builds more like a tank, they are going to have more trouble killing their target. And because they don't have the defensive steroids tanks have, if they don't kill their target in time, they'll typically get cc'd and focused...or just ignored.

Subclasses are not to "evade whining players". They are to actually help with balancing and understanding the character's kit, like Braum being a Warden vs Leona as a Vanguard.

There were characters that weren't quite where they were supposed to be in terms of labels (for example, Gragas used to be classed as a Mage/Fighter, but he's more of an actual tank, just needs his damages cut).

yeah cause darius doesnt have a gap closer? garen cant increase his speed? nasus doesnt have an aeo slow down ? cho gath cant slow knock up and silence?

sub tank is riot making excuses is all..... not to nerf champions that require it, why should tanks cause as much damage as damage dealers? and why should damage dealers get to tank as much as tanks?

xin zhao is a diver but guess what before riot had implemented sub classes xin zhao could dive towers tank turrets kil 2 champions under tower and walk away with over 60% hp... did riot nerf him? NO they made sub classes cause players were asking for a nerf.....

yeah cause darius doesnt have a gap closer?

He doesn't, unless you are counting his rather short-ranged hook.

garen cant increase his speed?

He can, but it's only a 30% MS boost, which any champ with actual mobility can escape.

nasus doesnt have an aeo slow down ?

N..no, he doesn't.

cho gath cant slow knock up and silence?

Cho is an old design and needs a rework. He's considered a unique playstyle, neither tank due to lacking an engage (although he could be more warden) nor a true juggernaut due to his CC. But almost everyone admits that he is a problem right now, but it's all because of his new slow on E and his insane synergy with stoneplate. However, his damage and cc are still very telegraphed and he has no abilities to get close for his ult in a teamfight, making him rely on Flash, Righteous Glory, or teammates with speed-ups before he can stoneplate-ult. Even Riot has admitted that thy have heard the concern in the interaction and are watching it.

sub tank is riot making excuses is all..... not to nerf champions that require it, why should tanks cause as much damage as damage dealers? and why should damage dealers get to tank as much as tanks?

Because they aren't true tanks. All they have, at least juggs, is durability and damage, no cc. Champs like lee and renek building full tank won't deal the damage they are typically supposed to, which is the tradeoff for building like a tank.

xin zhao is a diver but guess what before riot had implemented sub classes xin zhao could dive towers tank turrets kil 2 champions under tower and walk away with over 60% hp... did riot nerf him? NO they made sub classes cause players were asking for a nerf.....

Xin Zhao is another problem all together. For the most part he relies on what items are strong, seeing how he came into meta with Devourer and fell back out after it was removed. He is a full-on diver with no possible escape once he dives in, and all his damage is single target outside his ult. He's also getting a GU to give him more skill expression and balancability.

Fun fact..with subclasses implemented, Xin Zhao is...dun dun duuuuuunnnnnn...still a diver.

Also, exaggeration does not make your point. There is something else going on of anxin can tower dive 2 champs and survive at 60%. Why was he not CC'd under the tower? My guess is he built full AS/on-hit, get the most out his healing. Also guessing that both champs were low on health to begin with.

no exaggeration there, i seen it numerous times..... just about any assassin and certain other champs : vi and xin zhao etc... litterally jump in 1vs2 tank 5+ turret hits and 2 full combos and walk away with 2 kills alive.... and for some reason they still have 60% hp whether you cc them or not doesnt even matter -.- and no both champs have full health thats how bs the damage done is these days, its all about one shotting :/

Hook, not a gap closer in that he moves to the target. Closes the gap, technically, but not in the usual meaning of the phrase.

still mobility is mobility and he has tenacity.

Movespeed boosts are not mobility. If they were, people wouldn't keep saying that Morde has no CC or mobilty. Mobility is a dash or a blink.

Honestly? Outside of the slow he's always been that way. He's an old design, which speaks all the more to him needing a VGU. CC is the biggest way to stop him and not unstoppable, seeing as the part that is most frustrating is limited by an ult CD, an item CD, and some form of closer (usually Righteous Glory or Flash). And if he was close enough to start hitting you with his slow, you were probably too close. His Q is fairly easy to dodge, especially with mobility.

i meant aoe armor/mr reduction and slow down .-. mb the reduction is a form of cc since everyone will try to avoid it, and he has a slow down.

cc = crowd controll it comes in many forms : garens spin is a cc, people will walk away from it which means you can controll a crowd, it lowers armor/mr .-. truth is you can build tank and still do damage, THAT is the problem T.T

Mmmmmm......no. While CC does stand for crowd control, Crowd Control means: "abilities or spells that remove or diminish the control a target unit has over aspects of itself - aspects such as being able to cast spells or initiate movement commands" (1)

In other words...no, Garen's spin and Nasus's E are not CC. Zone control through debuffs, yes, but not CC (all CC are debuffs, but not all debuffs are CC). Those two in particular have a silence and a slow, respectively, and both single target.

And again, champs like Garen, Darius, and Nasus are allowed because they have 0 mobility and very limited CC. They are weak to range and kiting, and drop just like any tank, with dos and % armour/magic pen. On top of that, if they fall behind, they have even less to contribute than actual tanks, because a tank can always CC, but a Juggernaut that's behind isn't going to do the greatest damage.

lee ofc isnt a tank that was joke XD lee is an fighter.

Of this I am aware, but people have built him with tank items outside of Warrior enchantment, so just covering my bases.

Diver has been a classification since before Riot decided to split champs into subclasses. Irelia Nocturne XinZhao MonkeyKing were all classified as divers before subclasses came to be. They were similar to assassins, but where assassins deal damage in a burst, divers tend to need melee auto attacks, which means they need more durability.

Towers should not always be a safe place. Early game, yes. It's more..early game tower helps protect you, mid-late game you defend the towers. Come mid-late game, assassins themselves ( Zed Kayn Katarina Talon ) will kill you before the tower can do much to them. So..no, they should not be a safe place at all times.

If you're low on health, you better get far enough back from the fight before you recall, and if the fight is at the tier 2 turret, I recommend going back at least one tower, at least so they can't see where you're at.

no exaggeration there, i seen it numerous times..... just about any assassin and certain other champs : vi and xin zhao etc... litterally jump in 1vs2 tank 5+ turret hits and 2 full combos and walk away with 2 kills alive.... and for some reason they still have 60% hp whether you cc them or not doesnt even matter -.- and no both champs have full health thats how bs the damage done is these days, its all about one shotting :/

They'd be taking a lot of damage in that fight and I highly doubt they could escape with 60% HP unless they were heavily fed, seeing that even outer turrets start out with 152 AD, 30% armor pen, and damage ramping up 40% per additional shot, up to 120%. If they had been CC'd and survived a 1v2+turret, then they were severely fed or the 2 had 0 bonus defense.

any form of ability mostly not but sometimes focusing on damage mainly a status ailment of sorts is CC. silence is cc, so is slow down and any aoe ability can control a crowd. thats all it means just control. the form of CC is different and less of a large scale thats all.

http://forums.na.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=3433041 mobility just means extra movement than normal this does include movement boosts.

Yet, ms boosts are still held back by slows and minions. Almost all of what's considered mobility ignores slows and minions, and all but a few can cross terrain.

In my time of playing I have never seen Garen and mobility together unless it's like "Garen loses to mobility" or "Garen has no mobility".

That is not crowd control. I gave the definition from the league wikia (citation now oncluded in previous post). AoE abilities are zone control, not always CC. Yes, silence is cc, as is a slow. Leople moving out of the way of a Garen spin though does mot make it crowd control, because everyone still has full control of their characters.

Going by your definition, I guess Illaoi has a ton of CC..

Really? I've never seen it like this, and that's because that is jever how it really plays out. Level 3 tower dives are incredibly risky because of a tower's high AD (152) to start the match. They hurt early when no one has armor.

The way you describe the scenario..just seems unfeasible. A 1v2 tower dive, against full health enemies, with a tower shooting at them. They either had to be fed or something else was happening there that is excluded to make it not a true 1v2.

P.S. Someone can be fed without kill. Farm is a powerful thing.

a garen spin that lowers mr and armor is a form of CC, since it affects the CROWD and makes you able to CONTROL their movement or actions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crowd_control_(video_gaming)

And I started in 2015, and remember people talking about those champs being divers. They weren't just called fighters. They were divers back then as well because that is exactly what they did, they dove onto the backline.

BS, they didnt exist, the term diver was a tag to broken champions that could dive in a teamfight 1vs5 and survive.

i'm not talking about mages or marksmen since they will be killed at lvl 3 if they tower dive, i'm talking assassins, fighters and tanks. mainly champions that 1vs2 or 1vs5 easy. being tank means to absorb damage, this could be done by armor, magic resist, health , health regen, damage blocks/parries or lifesteal. fighters have armor/mr blocks/parries and health regen, assassins mainly go by lifesteal and tanks have all of it, which makes them all tanky in their own way to survive a tower dive at lvl 3.

I'll let that argument go. I rarely read of mobilty and ms boost together (after all, Morde is considered to have 0 mobility but he has an MS boost)

a garen spin that lowers mr and armor is a form of CC, since it affects the CROWD and makes you able to CONTROL their movement or actions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crowd_control_(video_gaming)

That article doesn't even prove your point. What Garen's E does is not included in that article. It's a debuff. It doesn't slow, it doesn't fear, or silence, or root, or taunt. It reduces armor, only armor (it does not reduce MR). This makes it a debuff, but not CC. The fact that champs run away from it makes it Zone Control, using an ability to tell enemies "don't come near here." Illaoi does the exact same thing with her tentacles and ult, so does that mean she is really good at CC?

BS, they didnt exist, the term diver was a tag to broken champions that could dive in a teamfight 1vs5 and survive.

You mean like Vi and Xin, champs typically referred to as divers?usually could? Guess what, that definition really hasn't changed.

Umm...none of those classes have that stuff by level 3. Jax and Panth have dodge/block, but those are part of their kits. No champ has that much stuff to survive 5+ tower shots at level 3 like you claim unless they've already had a few kills which means they are no longer level 3 anyway.

Illaoi does the exact same thing with her tentacles and ult, so does that mean she is really good at CC?

do you know the definition of crowd control O.o ? it means to control a crowd, according to your logic, pantheon has CC, even though he can only stun 1 champion. slowdown, stun, root, silence, taunt and knock up aren't by definition crowd control, crowd control means that you can control the crowd or somehow affect the actions of a crowd or make them move. so yes if an team or select champions in a teamfight moves away due to illaoi her tentacles it is CC. you are confusing CC with movement impairs.

You mean like Vi and Xin, champs typically referred to as divers?usually could? Guess what, that definition really hasn't changed.

sure did, now the term is a sub class by definition and used on someone that focuses on 1vs1 not much different than skirmisher or assassin..... except they are broken in terms of defense, way too tanky and shouldve been nerfed, aka as i stated several times its just riot with excuses....

Umm...none of those classes have that stuff by level 3. Jax and Panth have dodge/block, but those are part of their kits. No champ has that much stuff to survive 5+ tower shots at level 3 like you claim unless they've already had a few kills which means they are no longer level 3 anyway.

nope they are just way too tanky....

I do know what CC means, I even linked you the League of Legends wikia, Which discusses CC in League of Legends.

Yes, Panth does have CC, as does Irelia, and Jax, and Xin, Yas, Lee, Gnar, Trundle, Ryze, Liss, etc etc. that is because what they have, stuns, slows, knockups, knockbacks, roots, and snares are defined as CC.

From League wiki:

abilities or spells that remove or diminish the control a target unit has over aspects of itself - aspects such as being able to cast spells or initiate movement commands. As crowd controls impact a unit's combat ability, they are essentially more specialized forms of debuffs - however, this ability to directly hinder a unit's ability to fight means that crowd controls are often given significantly more importance in regular gameplay than normal debuffs, resulting in their special classification. http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Crowd_control

It then proceeds to list the types of CC. Garen is not on there, neither is Illaoi, and that is because Spin and Illaoi's ult don't actually control the target. Why? Because they still have full control over their champions! Garen's silence counts as CC, but it's very minor CC.

A diver focuses on jumping into the enemy team, similar to an assassin. However, an assassin deals damage in a burst and gets out. A divers damage is spread out, though autos and abilities and few have actual escapes, so they have some durability to allow them to not just explode.

A skirmisher is more a 1v1 champ than a diver and are a lot squishier, but with strong defensive windows (Yas's Windwall or Fiora's Parry). Typically splitpushers.

But since you seem to call them broken/OP and that they need nerfed, lets take a look at a few..

Xin Xhao - 51.42% winrate with a 1.24% playrate in Plat+, looks like it's mainly mains that play him. Averages 6.11 kill, 6 deaths, and 6.30 assists, which means he's dying as much as he's killing. (http://champion.gg/champion/XinZhao/Jungle?league=platplus)

Vi - 48.57% winrate, 1.99% play rate, so again, mostly mains. K: 5.53, D: 5.60, A: 7.22. Slightly more deaths than killnon average, but more assists, meaning she isn't always diving in alone.

How bout the most complained about recently..Pantheon - 53.20% winrate with a 2.67% playrate. 7.32 average kills, whiler averaging 6.04 deaths and 5.95 assists (the Aspect of War loves his kills) but his highest winrate item build is duskblade and youmuu's, so lots of lethality, along with Maw, GA, and DD. He is also the only champ without untargetability/invulnerability (although invuln still allows the tower's damage to ramp up) that can ignore 1 tower shot..two if he times his W properly.

nope they are just way too tanky....

Not at level 3 like you claimed. As I said above, Panthis the only champ without untargetability/invulnerability that can ignore a tower shot or two. Most can't survive under tower to kill a target at level 3 from full health, let alone 2 like you claim.

they say CC is a debuff, armor/mr reduction is a debuff you stated yourself here in riots words to hinder ones actions, i would say death qualifies as CC as well.... just because riot says, it doesn't mean its true, besides they classified special debuffs under CC, most or all of them are movement impairs, and others block the use of abilities or auto attack, heck they even went as far as specify hard and soft cc O.o what a bs is that.....

so whatever they decide to put as cc is suddenly cc? so if they classify ashe as a mage, she suddenly is a mage? i think we all know better :P

Skirmishers are light infantry or cavalry soldiers stationed to act as a vanguard, flank guard, or rearguard, screening a tactical position or a larger body of friendly troops from enemy advances. They are usually deployed in a skirmish line — an irregular open formation much more spread out in depth and breadth than a traditional line formation. Their purpose is to harass the enemy — engaging them in only light or sporadic combat in order to delay their movement, disrupt their attack, or weaken their morale. Skirmishers' open formations and smaller numbers can give them superior mobility over the regular forces, allowing them to fight on more favorable terms, taking advantage of better position or terrain and quickly withdrawing from any threat of superior enemy forces.

Skirmishers can be either regular army units temporarily detached to perform skirmishing, or specialty units specifically armed and trained for such low-level irregular warfare tactics. Light infantry, light cavalry, and irregular units often specialize in skirmishing.

Though often critical in screening the main army from sudden enemy attacks, skirmishers are poor at taking and defending ground from heavy infantry or heavy cavalry. In modern times, following the obsolescence of such heavy troops, all infantry has become indistinguishable from skirmishers, and the term has lost military meaning.

Those acting as skirmishers are said to skirmish. A battle with only light, relatively indecisive combat is often called a skirmish.

they are supposed to go 1vs5 and survive.... riot called them by the true definition of a skirmisher, since they didn't want to nerf them :/ all i see are excuses -.- since not only do they survive they can easily kill 3-5 champions and survive, how many pentas did fiora and yasuo make per match?

can we leave third party bs out of it please, these numbers mean nothing, they just state popularity not viability, its hard and takes too long to determine the strenght of an individual champion. these nonsense winrates are based on team statistics.... i mean they couldve gone afk or whatever and still be counted -.-

xin zhao zed vi sejuani etc can all do that at lvl 3.... same for panth b4 you know it panth kills you fast, stun + those 10000000000 spears in your face :/

You realize that the wiki isn't actually run by Riot, right? What need would they have of a separate website from their own?

Yes, both CC and armor/mr reduction are both debuffs, but just because it's a debuff does not mean that it's CC. DoTs are considered debuffs, as are Zed's and Trundle's ults, but they aren't CC.

As for death being CC..haven't you heard that death is actually the greatest CC?

so whatever they decide to put as cc is suddenly cc? so if they classify ashe as a mage, she suddenly is a mage? i think we all know better :P

Those CC definitions are held across all MOBAs. Riot didn't invent them.

So, a skirmisher is a soldier that just dives into the enemy alone? That doesn't make sense. You said it yourself that they can't stand against heavy infantry and are better for light, fast combat. Sounds like our duelists (Fiora, Jax, Yasuo, etc) to me.

Besides, a skirmisher doesn't go in 1v5 because they just get collapsed on and die. Those Yasuos and Fiora 1v5 pentas? Either insanely ahead, or a good player vs a not so good team (or a team with no tank/CC or healing reduction). I also rarely see Pentas these days.

Oh, I'm sorry for using something based on team statistics in a discussion about champs in a team oriented game. Oh wait, I'm not. You claimed champs were OP/broken, and I showed you that they aren't, at least not in the higher elos where people know how to deal with them. If you're gonna call winrates and play rates BS, then you discount the only actual numbers we can point to to show a champ's balance.

xin zhao zed vi sejuani etc can all do that at lvl 3.... same for panth b4 you know it panth kills you fast, stun + those 10000000000 spears in your face :/

Zed and panth poke you down like crazy before going all in. Panth is mana gated and CD gated, so he pokes with Q until you're low, then leaps in if he used his mana properly. Same with Zed, except with energy. Neither can tower dive a full health enemy, let alone 2 like you have claimed, and kill them. Vi and Xin are typically junglers and tend to dive you when you're low as well, or they have backup from laners, which means it isn't actually a 1v2. And Sej has little damage outside her Q and with slow autos.

All of those can really only dive you when low, which then begs the question of...if you know you're low and they can finish you, why are you still standing there and not goingback to heal?

tanks are op and need nerfs yes, it has been tank meta for years now :/ either riot will have to rework or remove items like black cleaver, thornmail, sun fire cape, or damage nerfs on tank abilities basic ad, and or armor/mr nerfs on sub tanks, or beefy champions that arent even sub tanks -.-
