Jayce ADC?

I know why Jayce is played as a mid and a top laner, but according to riot he is also a marksman for his secondary role. I am curious as to why no one has played him as ADC. I could see him being effective against a lot of the matchups, granted that some wouldn't be as favorable. His kit is strange for an ADC but it still appears to have a solid strategy.

I am curious as to why no one has played him as ADC.

People do occasionally play him as an ADC, but the massive disadvantage to doing that in Rift:

AA Range. It's is really, really, really important to the ADC class. And Jayce only has 500 in his ranged form - which means essentially every ranged champion will out-range him and has the potential to pew-pew him to death where Jayce can't respond back.

This is pretty awful in the lanning phase for Jayce - as it makes it easier to punish him for CSing as any other marksman, and easy to poke and harass. Also pretty awful in the team-fight phase: where range directly translates into a ton of safety by making a champion substantially harder to focus and much easier to protect.

And if you're playing him ADC rather than mana-gorged AD caster, his warp gate + shockblast combo is generally going to be to expensive to cover that weakness.

Alternatively - in Dominion and Treelines range isn't that helpful, as 150 more range just placed a melee capable of leaping 700 range at, like, 5% more risk. Jayce's mobility, self-peel, and melee-ranged pain make him a very powerful marksman in those maps where Jayce's particular strengths are considerably more valuable.

TLDR: only 500 AA Range.

would it be feasible to counter trade with a R(to hammerstance)+E+aa+Q combo just to punish them for trying to trade on him or is that too much. I wonder if it could be done properly with looking at his full kit, not just his ranged side. I know that the Jayces I have vs'd when I'm running ADC all run his ranged side of his kit and rarely use the other side. Similar to quinns I don't see them using her melee form much when they go into bird, they just use the mobility and then ult out instead of getting some fast hits in ulting out then bouncing off...

on the other hand, if you can manage his mana, just use his E+Q combo. With enough damage items, it's very effective to initiate. I will say though that he doesn't really show his true power until level 3, but you can say that for a lot of champions (sometimes it's even worse for tohers, e.g. effective Yi at level 6).

It's interesting because while he seems like an actually solid pick for a sort of ADC/Anti-ADC. it's less effective in practice than on paper, though. Especially against ADC's with good range and damage.

Although Jayce is not like a normal ADC in the sense that ADCs are shooters, teaming up with the support as an "ADC" can be VERY effective. You can just let the support take the damage while you poke with E+Q combo (cannon stance). Also, I find W very helpful when attacking turrets. But if you're looking for fun, you've got to solo main. Here's an example of a tactic you can use with him when going on a 1v1: (NOTE: You might've known this tactic already, but it's so effective it's worth mentioning) Step 1) Hide in the bush with Melee Stance Step 2) Do a Q+W combo and then, when W is over, press E Step 3) Get some distance, change into cannon, and do the infamous E+Q combo

That'll scare the enemy, or even kill them. Oh and one more thing. summoner 14 is a must when it comes to summoner spells.

all this being said, unless you build differently, jayce is still a champion with high burst damage, and I dont feel like he fits the role of an adc becasue most compositions require that role to have strong Consistent damage, and for jayce, that just isnt his strength
