Question about what makes taliya's W not cast (cancel)

Sometimes I press W, and my seismic shove will not cast. Sometimes it will. I can not figure out what makes it so (and no, it's not on cooldown. Pressing something else during the "drag" phase will cancel it, but even if I don't sometimes it doesn't cast). Any help?

Loved the old taliyah -- it did take me a game or 2 to get used to that W. But played several now, and I just can't understand why the new W sometimes just will not go.

You have to cast, drag, and let go/press again. It's an utter trash change anyways though. Here's to hoping for the hotfix. Or just abandoning Taliyah altogether, because Riot fucking ruined her. Because they decided it was a good idea to listen to people who know jackshit about her instead of her mains/people who played her a shitton.

Yes, I press, drag, release (I'm using quick cast). Sometimes it just doesn't cast. Maybe I don't drag far enough? (which is weird, I'd think once you press it, it should go). Or maybe I'm doing it too fast? Is there a minimum amount of time I have to hold the button for it to cast? Or the minimum distance I have to move the mouse? It is frustrating to place W, and not have it cast at all, so I am trying to understand what makes it so.

Vector casting is weird in that most commands can just cancel the cast while you are lining it up. For instance, if you issued a movement command before you finished casting, the ability would never go off. I don't play vector cast champions, so maybe something else could be going on, but I can't force myself to play Taliyah again in her current state to find out.
