Does anyone else feel like they're being punished for buying wards?

In a lategame scenario, you have to give up something to play the game at an adequate level, assuming your team isn't shitstomping the enemy team. If you need vision, you're going have to give up a necessary active, damage, or tank stats, making you less effective than the enemy team. Not to mention that even if you have the vision, the enemy may win the fight just by virtue of having 6 items dedicated to defense or offense when you don't. You see this all the time in pro play. Supports will just not buy a 6th item and save the spot open to buy wards or pinks. Trinkets don't really solve the problem either. Even assuming everyone on your team upgrades their trinkets (which never happens, lets be honest), that means you have at most 4 warding totems and hopefully however many pinks have survived to this point, because the the support buys sightstone and the red trinket. Many junglers buy red trinket, and many assassins do as well. Now we're down to 2 warding totems, which may or may not be upgraded, and a sightstone. ADCs buy blue trinket as well. Now we're at 1 warding totem and a sightstone, assuming the enemy team doesn't have invisibility champions to counter with Oracle's, in which case you may only have the sightstone. I think it's unreasonable to have to rely on what is veritably chance on a facecheck or some line-of-sight gimmick the enemy team decides to pull because you can't have enough vision while retaining full build. I think wards should have a separate slot just like trinkets do. This would also give people something to spend gold on besides elixers, which would make me feel a lot happier because I would feel less like I'm wasting a resource. Thank you for your time, Pope Charles IV

P.S. Riot fix the charge spell bug on some routers please. I want to play Varus again ;_;

I would say, one defending argument for not needing "as much" vision late game is, you should ultimately be grouped up as 5.. or at least 4 if you are running a split push comp. If you cant keep the map lit up with 3 wards from sight stone + 2 wards from your top laner's trinket, with the possibility of everyone or half the team having a pink ward down, then yall messed up.

TL;DR if you are staying grouped up as a team like you should be late game, then the wards you have available should be plenty for any objective you are trying to take.

It's called upgrading your trinket. Your support will most likely get sightstone and upgrade their red. It's the rest of the teams' responsibility to fill up the rest of the vision they need with their trinkets (especially lategame when the support might sell the sight stone for something more effective. Ideally at mid game, you would have a support with sightstone and upgraded red, jungler, mid, and top with upgraded yellow (2 taking stealth wards, one taking pink ward, although that can be optional if they have no stealth), and the ADC takes either an upgraded yellow or blue if they actually know how to use it.

Also, what midlaners are really going to take red trinket? And you forget that upgraded to stealth trinket gives you two wards. One more thing: you can't criticize something for not working when it isn't at it's full potential. If your team is lacking vision and you have tier 1 trinkets, then it's your teams problem, not Riots

Most assassins take red trinket, actually. It's good for setting up picks in line-of-sight areas and brushes.

Towards late-ish game I drop the sightstone and get a warding totem. I still have wards, and I have a free slot for something cool.

What do you do if you have no Oracle's then?

I'm in Bronze, just changing your trinket is something uncommon, let alone upgrading it. :P However, I always make sure I have a pink ward lying around somewhere on the map. My focus isn't so much as preventing the enemy from seeing, my focus is to make sure I can see THEM at the level I'm at. :/ I can still guess where the enemy places wards and sweep it (I do get a sweeper once I get my sightstone, but once my 5th item is built, I give up on mass vision and focus on useful vision. (If that makes sense)
