Can we talk about the fact that I haven't been able to play Varus in over half a year?

The glitch remains wherein champions with abilities that can be charged cause massive amounts of lag. I get ping spikes upwards of 900 when I attempt to use the Q spell of Xerath or Varus. I haven't even gotten a response acknowledging that this glitch exists. It's been far too long, Riot.

I'm not experiencing this bug on ARAMs or in a customer 5v5, perhaps its your ISP.

Which map does the bug occur on? I receive no ping spikes when I charge those abilities nor have I seen others with this issue, it could be a bug in your hardware or internet connection.

It's been documented that the bug only appears with some routers. I don't remember the whole list, but mine is a Cisco router. I have not tried on any other map than Summoner's Rift. I tend not to play other gamemodes. One interesting thing to point out, though, is that when I level up Q as Varus immediately during a custom, my ping does not increase. As the in-game time goes on, each cast of Q increases ping more and more. This seems inexplicable to me.

You know I actually used to have a similar problem with my ping back in S3 with Jayce. Every time I'd throw his gate down and try and Q my ping would spike. Happened on ARAMs and Summoners Rift.

'Course, this doesn't help your situation much (also considering i've moved, gotten a new isp, and a fancy shmancy router because i hate lagging on online games! Not saying its your fault your lagging ps! :P) but i figure a support ticket might help you a bunch. if you recieve a robots response first, then keep sending in a ticket and one of their specialists will surely look at it.

Good luck getting it sorted, lag is a total bitch in League.

I just tried to, but Riot's program simultaneously told me that I have to verify my e-mail, and that I already have verified my e-mail (I have indeed verified my e-mail), so it won't let me submit any sort of support ticket.

Seems like it is the routers fault then, not Riots. Get a new router.

I don't think you understand. The router is not broken. The router works fine. The problem IS with Riot because whatever makes this particular brand of router work is making it not work with this one mechanic.

That isn't how technology works. If a piece of code works with almost every other machine, then there is something nonstandard on the machine it doesn't work on that is making it so. It is possible to redo the code to work with the other nonstandard machine as well, but the simpler solution is to get a standardized machine that it already works on.

But really, there is probably a setting in your router that you can change to fix the issue on your end. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can help you with that? League has such a huge player base that surely someone has encountered this problem and already figured out the fix for it. I'd post on the help and support forums, or Reddit. I bet you get a fix to the settings on your end by the end of the day if you do.

Hell if I know how technology works. I don't work in that field. I've spoken to other people with this bug, and they've said the only solution is to connect to the router via cable. I don't have that option.

Plugging directly into the router is a debugging step.

If you can try and move your computer to another network (or tether it, since you're wireless). If you tether or take your computer to a friends house and you suddenly don't have issues with Varus or Xerath, then it's your router that's the issue.

I have tested with a different router, although not a different router of the same brand, and the spell works fine on that router. Please explain to me how my router could be causing a problem with this extremely specific problem.

Either the router is defective or it's trying to be too helpful.

The most plausible thing I can think of that would explain it is that the router might have some sort of caching error/"feature". Caching is where a computer (or router) saves a result it got earlier so it can re-use it later, kinda like reusing part of one math problem to solve a different problem later. With that analogy, caching when you shouldn't is similar to re-using a part of the problem you got wrong. Your router may be trying to guess what Riot would send back to you and re-sending some data from earlier in the game to your computer and to Riot. The game might then be saying "that can't be right" and trying to ask the server for the same info again, to which the router replies with another cached response. That could explain how it gets worse as the game goes on.

There's probably some setting on the router itself to disable this, but who knows under what menu or what it's called. It'd probably have some marketing name such as "speed booster" or "bandwidth helper" or something.

Hold the phone. You're trying to tell me you get ping spikes for holding Q?

I call BS. Computers and networks don't work in a way that would make that happen. You'd get the same effect for holding down your right mouse button and dragging it around, since that's sending the same network traffic (possibly more network traffic, since Q is probably a single packet for "charging" and another one for "discharge").

This sounds like something corrupt on your computer, not some problem with the game.

Call BS as much as you want. I've confirmed this on two different computers, both with clean installs of League. Other people have had this problem as well. I don't know how to record it, but I guarantee it's 100% reproducible.

DrCyanide1 votes

If clean installs of League of Legends caused network issues on the computer by holding Q, no one anywhere would be able to play Xerath of Varus.

If it flooded the server with more packets (causing the ping to spike) anytime someone was holding a charged ability, anytime there was a Xerath or Varus in the game there would be people with weak download speeds that would lag out.

You've either got some other problem with your computer (a key logger or some other virus) or there's a problem with your router.
