A big reason of why support isnt fun is because you're forced to support the same person for 20 mins
Im a Zilean mid 1-trick and I play him like a supportive midlaner, and am able to speed up, ulti, or peel whoever I want throughout the game. For an example. if the vayne is constantly dying for no reason, I can win by supporting the J4 instead. I like this supportive playstyle in mid (sometimes top too) way more than I would in botlane support, because I have no choice but follow the same dumbass around. Yes, you can roam to other lanes as the support, but leaving the adc 1v2 is a bad idea imo. If the support role could be transformed from being stuck with adhesive glue to an either awesome or retarded player, into a roaming-team based role (like the jungler, but not farming camps) and rewarded roaming to other lanes and helping them out, way more people would be playing support. If this was the case, no longer would you be forced to stick with the ashe who can't orbwalk, kite, or go two steps without shitting herself, and instead go to your duo partner/really good player on your team and win that way. This would make the earlygame way more exciting for everyone, as the lanes would constantly be changing.
Keep in mind that this is a very raw idea, and doesn't take into account the amount of balance issues that come with it. I wanted to bring this up as a conversation piece in the comments, and try to evolve this theory of mine. Thanks for reading ^.^
