Here's a dumb question about item sets. What do????

Alright so I know what they're supposed to do, list specific items that can help out your playstyles and champs so you don't have to waste time searching for said items. But how do I activate them? Whenever I make an item set and get it how I want, it never shows up in game. Are item sets just for ranked games or something? or am I just doing this wrong?

go into a custom match on a champion where you have an item set set to. Open the shop and look over the ENTIRE shop window, somewhere you should find a pulldown menu labled "reccomended items" if you click on it your item set should be there for you to open.

Yes, the dropdown is on the top left. The default will be "Recommended".

Wait seriously? Was this always necessary? Was it possible to default this outside of a game?

I can't remember ever doing that in the past and yet I set up item sets for all of my main champions ages ago (like season 4) and as far as I can tell I'm still using them. I'm certain I was using them in S4 and S5 because I did things like put pink wards and upgraded trinkets in my starting items so they'd always be at the top and I'd remember to buy them / upgrade when I could. I also put a variety of items farther down and feel like everything I'd looked for was always there.

Now, to be fair, perhaps it isn't working this season for me anymore. I have some champions with pink wards at the top and others at the bottom so I think I still am (I'd be surprised if recommended items had vision wards in different spots for different champions, but obviously if I put an item set together it wouldn't match the recommended items for a champion I don't have a set for). I really haven't paid loads of attention though - if the item I'm looking for isn't immediately visible in the shop I just go to the other tab and start typing it in. I've found that this being my third season I know what I want to build enough that I'm not looking around in the shop anymore.

they arent going to be in the new league client so I wouldn't get used to having them
