Actually Unpopular Opinion: Morde is High skill Champ

GigglesO··18 votes·6,811 views

Now hear me out.

Morde is trash in the hands of inexperienced players, but really quite good in the hands of players that main him. (Which is Why Riot doesn't buff him) People that consistently main Morde and have to play against him beat the shit out of him. Just heard about two cases today (in diamond MMR).

Players that play against you say morde is freelo, and yet noone plays him cause hes actually just a walking trash can that his mains somehow make work.

His mobility is in general garbage which makes him extremely difficult to get things done.

Being bad in the hands of new/inexperianced players and super good "freelo" in the hands of experienced is literally the definition of takes skill to play.

TLDR: Probably just downvote me.

He isn't buffed because he is bugged to all hell. They even admitted that we would probably see a new rework in 2019.

No.

Lower end of medium skill cap I'd say.

I used it right my opinion is actually unpopular with morde.

In some cases, I would agree. In other cases, no.

The mobility is a good reason, but also his positioning and his reliability on minions and his teammates to build up shield, bonus exp, CC and peel.

In other cases, his high burst and survivability makes him easy, and being able to turn a fight around with a ghost is what makes the guy a “freelo”-der (get it?).

Freeloder? My good sir, you've just won the internet.

I wonder if that's a taken name.

No wonder he didn’t get a rework yet. He just isn’t looking for work.

Lazy dog! He needs to get off his butt and get to rework!

It’s a shame he has very low mobility. Eats too much Do-Ritos. Gotta work off the extra pounds and maybe a trip to the veterinarian for a liposuction.

I do love the things that come out of morde threads. Its like we all know he is trash and good at the same time.

Pachyderm4 votes

Every time I start to think he's trash, I end up laning against a morde main and watch in horror as my deceased corpse rains terror down on my teammates. He's one of those amazingly bad or terribly good champions that gets underestimated by half the playerbase.

I consider that just saying "High skill" is a vague way to talk about a champion being hard or easy to pick up or master that are different things.

To be more accurate I'll give my opinion on Morde: Medium skill floor (more near High than Low because non Morde players dont even know what he does) but definetely Low skill ceilling.

You probably disagree with my second opinion, but seriously you should keep in mind the difference between the Skill Floor and Ceilling when you talk about any champion, some like Garen have Low Skill Floor and Ceilling, some like Caitlyn have a Low skill Floor but a high skill Ceilling, some like Aurelion Sol a really High (probably the highest in the game) skill Floor but a Medium/Low skill Ceilling and etc.

garen has the highest skill ceiling in the game

If you lose in lane against a Morde, 9 times outta 10 it’s your fault. Most of his kills are gained from people not knowing what he does. Any experienced player can exploit his five huge weaknesses and make playing him hell:

  1. No CC.
  2. Auto-pushes Wave.
  3. No Mobility.
  4. Incredibly item reliant.
  5. Near useless if behind/enemy is ahead.
GigglesO4 votes

Thats why hes high skill. You have to know how not to completely just int with him.

Z3Sleeper1 votes

*any experienced player playing someone with the kit requirement to beat him.

Some laners simply don’t the tools for it in the laning phase. Past laning basically anyone can sure.

Many have to rely on their junglers since no matter how bad a MU it is Morde is the easiest champion to gank in the game.

TBH immobile champs require more skill than the mobiles ones by default because if they fuck up they are dead unlike mobile champs that have an oops i fucked up button from the ass. I respect trynda and morde mains, they are cool.

Different type of skill. Immobile champion players generally have a greater awareness of what they can and cannot get themselves involved with. Hyper mobile champion players generally have better microplay.

And that is why I like nasus a lot. I actually learned a lot about splitpushing, teamfighting and overall macro play when I was learning how to play nasus. The most important part I learned was how to play the laning phase in many matchups.

I dont think I can press all my skills on cooldown cause they do damage and come right back up is very skill full. Mordekaiser does that same thing he just doesnt do it with mobility by rather than one shotting 2 people with one press of e and one press of q (1 2 on one person and 3 on the next)

Tahminatrix 2 votes

Hes a high skill CAP champ but not a high skill champ, a lot of his potential goes into what can be seen as an afterthought, micromanaging your ghosts and morde at the same time in order to get the most out of it is a good example, people who don't micromanage to make the full use of his ghosts either send them off to do alittle bit of damage on enemy champs (or even towers if your ghost is a dragon) or just leaving your ghost behind and keeping it safe so you can use the stats it gives you, not saying its bad to do either of those things, sometimes its even preferable to, but some specific ghosts like those of adcs can be especially valuable when micromanaged, like vayne or jinx, or jhin with perm 4th auto.

What is a Mord? Haven't seen one in over two years now.

Jinzo best card2 votes

I think you mean that he's hard to win with him against good players (when played in a solo lane/no duoQ) since I don't think you mean that Volibear/Garen are also high-skill champ (given that the only thing you do on them is run at people with Q active).

GigglesO2 votes

They have the base stats to just run at people. Morde does not.

Hard to win with is part of his skill cap/floor.

LordGeovanni1 votes

morde's base stats are slightly lower because that shield he has is redicilous and has no down time. Neither does his Q really. there is no other champion in the game with so much raw damage spell on such a low cooldown the closest thing to it is Lux ulting a target with her passive on it.

GigglesO1 votes

You have to deal damage and cast spells, his e might not be the longest cd, w is considerably longer, and Morde doesn’t even get 1as sooo he actually has a hard time getting it off. Since his shield decays it’s actually hard to time blocking damage as well.

LordGeovanni1 votes

This is a morde verus ranged problem which isnt so much a morde versus ranged problem as much as a melee versus ranged problem. versus other melee's he like darius bullies people out to the point that usually cant reasonably farm under their tower just like ranged champions.

GigglesO1 votes

Umm no, timing his shield against all champions to maximize its effect (since it is a decaying shield) is difficult. There are actually alot of champions that can bully morde out of lane.

It says sion and ornn generally lose to morde. I actually pick those guys into morde because I know they counter him.

In that same breath: Kayle is a high skill cap champion.

GigglesO1 votes

She is 50% ranged, her skill reduces with items and levels.

She turns into a ranged point and click.

Morde is ranged point and click right out of the box, save his melee point and click Q.

GigglesO1 votes

I wish his ranged point and click was a guaranteed kill/as good as kayles ranged autos. I would win so many more games.

Ranged is the key word in there.

Melee champions IMO are inherently harder to play unless they have excessive mobility.

All he does is click shit on people with no sense of nuance or timing. If Morde is "hard" to play in any sense of the word, anyone else with the same requirements to pilot are just as hard to play. Only difference is that Morde drain tanks and Kayle hyper-carries.

GigglesO2 votes

That’s not how you play him... you do actually have to have timing and whatnot with his abilities.

Why do you think so many players are garbage with him?

Every champion has timings. Most champions have to deal with timing AND aiming. Morde doesn't.

And honestly, I think it's less about people being unable to learn and master Morde more than it's people not wanting to. Like, by this logic, we should sing the praises of Teemo or something next since he has to "time" things like "using his Q" or "coming out of stealth".

GigglesO1 votes

Except teemo is ranged has better mobility and two ccs which make him easier.

Immobile melees are pretty much the jankiest hardest class because of their glaring weaknesses.

If this thread is just here for you to jerk off your main champ, then by all means. Just don't mask it as a "discussion". There's plenty of people that do this type of thing for their own champ and it's just as biased and ridiculous as your version.

If I gotta check out someone jerking themselves off for how special they are for playing a character, I watch Low Tier God. Don't need more than one of that on the internet.

GigglesO1 votes

And that is why its an actually unpopular opinion.

Morde is basically kogmaw without ranged autos. You don't see everyone going around saying how easy it is to play kog. However kog is still easier than if he was melee.

LordGeovanni1 votes

acutally he just sits back on a fat shield until some one makes the mistake of walking into one shot auto range. Because morde mains want to call him an ap bruiser but dont want to have to dip into defensive items like ad bruisers have to (who usually have to build 4 defensive items and only 2 damage items which are also largely defensive.) Only Garen and darius through tons of free pen and free ad for darius get to do what morde does.

GigglesO2 votes

Umm no, we want to build defense but it’s not very viable. You die just as fast, while dealing less damage.

Base MS forces rylis, to sustain forces HTGB. To deal damage forces Liandris. Two defense items does very little.

LordGeovanni1 votes

please mordes base movement speed is only bad because morde mains wont let go of his q oneshotting people (on a really low cooldown) through their defenses and you have innate sustain with w on top of just denying damage with the shield thats like saying every fighter ever needs lifesteal in every build and if they cant build it and make it effeicent (like now) they are garabge. Liandrys is an item but morde isnt forced to build it at all its just a really badly designed super powerful item with a large amount of stats even if its not as large as some of the other items. item 3165 item 3027 item 3285

GigglesO1 votes

Most of the time I don’t get more than first Q off. I’d happily trade damage on it for raw movement speed.

Don’t put words into the main players mouths.

A lot of protesters are actually just casuals that are like I need him to one shot.

LordGeovanni1 votes

Malicious metal must be the biggest morde casual on the boards. Mordekaiser would needs to lost more than half of Q's damage for him to be balanced and still put a slightly longer cooldown on it. so that people have windows to punish him. he also needs nerfs to his ult damage and cooldown its far too effective and it gives morde a massive hp boost for its redicilous duration. for that he can probally get a slight movement speed boost. If he gets a massive nerf to how much shield he can hold and how much each spell builds up then he can get better base defenses. I like how he gets to walk around with a camille shield/ vi shield with no cooldown but those champions are broken just because you can actually see how big their shields are or do something super inefficent like stacking 2 shields at the same time and the second one fizzles out because its duration wasnt long enough to be used like with courage of the collossus or using after shock.

GigglesO1 votes

Lol I was most played Morde in 2017 and I play way too much. His rework already nerfed his stats and shield to trade off for damage. I’d still rather be tankier than do the damage I do.

There are actually quite a few Morde mains that prefer a tankier gameplay.

LordGeovanni1 votes

If thats what you would prefer id like to see anyone of you advocate for it because you guys never do you jsut make morde is bad cause he cant catch anyone posts then mass downvote anyone who points out because he one shots anything that comes in his range thats why people who play melee's often dont fight morde they just go to another lane leaving only ranged champions who morde has a problem hitting for him to fight.

GigglesO1 votes

Thats because he doesn't one shot anyone that comes into range. For his Q, at base attack speed it takes at least 3 seconds to get his big dick damage off.

If you stay in mordes range for 3 seconds either you are bad, or a tank and not going to die to a 3rd q.

He also can't hold onto it like jhin, its basically use or lose it.

LordGeovanni1 votes

because morde kaiser has the monopoly on doing standing and doing damage. tanks will die to mordes e 3 q combo unless they have 2 magic resist items early and 3 magic resist items later. morde doesnt have a static 3 seconds for q because he like most other champions in the game scales attack speed and can easily get attack speed runes.

LordGeovanni1 votes

and when i tell you every morde main cries when you suggest that morde needs to not one shot people just because he's melee

GigglesO1 votes

You dont know what you are arguing about in that post. Mordpool is right. Bruiser items are garbage on him. Tank items are garbage on him. He needs enough ap to be an ap threat or he just doesn't work.

S7 before runes reforged you could build him bruiser/tank or ad/bruiser or ap/bruiser or ap

Now you have ap nuke because the only damage in the game is nuke damage.

LordGeovanni1 votes

Of course bruiser items are garabe on him you want to be one shoting people not being a tanky frontliner doing damage over time like everyone else barring darius riven and yasou

GigglesO1 votes

No, we want to be a tanky frontline that trades cc for daamge.

Building bruiser actually makes him suck. He isn't threatening with more than 1ish defense item.

Slow, No CC, Shitty base stats making him rather squishy even when he does pick up defense.

Defense in general minus the ad bruiser items (which he does terrible with) just sucks. Its also why we see almost no tanks.
