Yeah so what happened this season? Just gonna add onto this list. The first 3 you mentioned.

  1. Frustrating champs go unattended to
  2. Dominion gone due to supposed lack of resources
  3. Dynamic Queue being forced down our throats after game modes were shut down
  4. Continued favoritism
  5. Vision changes
  6. Keystones making balance even harder for Riot
  7. Broken / unnecessary items
  8. Change purely for the sake of change
  9. "You don't want that, you think you do, but you don't" mentality
  10. Constant lies and silence more obvious this season than previously
  11. Ignorance of player reception. Riot: "Oh they'll love this!" Community: "We don't like it, please stop." Riot:"Look how happy they are! Let's keep going."
  12. Obliviousness and arrogance in terms of design. "We're the devs, we know better!"
  13. I suppose I can round off with more recycled PR statements from 2 and half years ago or so of "Aww shucks guys, we're sorry we're not doing so hot right now in communication, balance, gameplay, game health, pretty much everything else. It's unacceptable, but hey, we'll do better in the future."

They also finally went all-out with blatant map bias by claiming blind pick normal SR is competitive mode, and ranked draft TT isn't.

They are right about that though.

Minarde1 votes

So blind normal SR is a serious, tryhard, competitive mode?

If Riot had limited Mastery 6/7 to (dynamic) ranked SR, that'd be more understandable. After all, ranked 3s has some of the same problems that ranked 5s had. But they didn't. Riot specified a high competitive standard as a requirement and then included blind normals. Thus, the only possible conclusion is that blind normal SR is a serious competitive mode.

It's definitely an interesting notion.

More so than 3v3s, yes.

Mastery is fucking retarded, most of it is about if you win or lose anyway, frankly mastery should be based 100% on time played on said champ, no matter the mode(okay maybe except aram, fuck aram), so don't translate what I've said about where mastery points should be gained, I think the current system could've been done a lot better without all of this crap about "performance"(which doesn't correlate very well with actual performance).

But anyway, as far as being a competitive mode, I do believe blind is more competitive than 3v3s(ranked or otherwise), I also don't think that has anything to do with mastery.

Minarde1 votes

I agree with you about the Mastery thing. I also agree that blind normal SR is probably more competitive than ranked TT in a practical sense, due to the playerbase difference. However, I don't agree with Riot's reasoning at all. Ranked TT should ideally be much more competitive than blind normal SR (because, y'know, ranked vs. normals). Denying rewards to TT only hurts the situation by further discouraging players from playing TT.

Rather than actually fixing anything, Riot's just trying to placate TT players for now. Riot evidently hasn't learned anything over the years because this is the same behavior that caused the current unpopularity of Alternate Maps.

The issue is that one critical part of a mode being competitive is that it needs to have some remote semblance of balance, and riot just don't feel like it's worth doing that for any mode which isn't SR.

Just because riot tells you something doesn't mean they are telling you the truth, reason blind has mastery and 3v3 doesn't is because they made their algorithms for SR(primarily due to ranked) but since they already have them for ranked, might as well implement them for blind and draft, they simply don't think it's as big of a priority to make the same for 3v3 and aram, that's all there is to it, mastery has nothing to do with competitiveness, even in its current form it's basically "how many games have you won(and assuming a large enough sample, might as well be games played) on this champ", hell you even get bonus mastery points for being in a premade, it has nothing to do with competitiveness, oh and of course how can we forget the blue essence, that is totally related to mastery, totally.

Oh and there's no reason for it not to account games played before the system, that too is dumb.

Of course, that's why a year after Mastery came out, plans for TT/ARAM are only just being announced. Not even a timeframe though, just Soon™. The problem is that in the exact same announcement confirming that, "Yes, TT and ARAM are considered part of League of Legends and will finally have access to League features," Riot also included the public statement that ranked TT is not competitive. Was neglect not enough, so Riot has to start actively discouraging players from trying non-SR modes? Even if Riot isn't doing anything to help Alternate Maps, they could at least avoid harming them.

I can sorta understand why they wouldn't include previous games. It'd be a pain distributing points for hundreds and thousands of games for millions of players. Plus, Riot's lost match history and game stats for players before, so maybe there's technical limitations too.

I mean considering they deleted dominion... it could be worse. Thing is as I've said, they just consider it a very low priority, it's not so much that they don't think TT deserves mastery points as they don't think it deserves work in general. And I can't blame them for calling ranked TT not competitive, the mode is too shallow and broken to be considered that way.

I can sorta understand why they wouldn't include previous games. It'd be a pain distributing points for hundreds and thousands of games for millions of players.

You just assume the player got a B rank each game,it's really just going over games previously played, it shouldn't be much work.

And as to this being not accurate: most of your mastery points are decided by if you won or lost anyway, and more importantly, assuming a B is much more(like, a whole fucking lot more) accurate than just ignoring these games altogether.

Plus, Riot's lost match history and game stats for players before, so maybe there's technical limitations too.

I mean I don't know if he eventually got his icon or not, and there's no red reply there, and it's one thread, so I don't know.

It's one thing if Riot says that internally and privately. It's completely different when Riot says that officially in a public statement. I'm also not sure I'd call it shallow or broken. Stale, maybe.

Sure, but on further thought, Mastery functions as another hook to keep players playing. It wouldn't really serve that purpose if a significant portion of the playerbase had maxed levels before the system even launched.

It affected a decent amount of the Dominion playerbase. That topic just happened to be the first one I found. Don't think there was ever any official notice: everything was handled either personally or through support tickets. For my alts, they got the icon fine, but they had no stats when Def Not Dom came out, unlike my main.

You mean like the promise of solo q? Also their patch notes sometimes contain blatant lies, but those are less obvious for most people.

Oh and there's all of those things like "price of champions will never go above 6300", or "limited skins will never be sold again" and I'm guessing other things I forgot.

Yeah I'm aware that that's why they did it, but I think that mastery should be first of all about mastery, gains and incentives to play shouldn't come at the cost of making mastery mean less, and yet that's exactly what they do, so that's something I very much don't approve of, but yes, that's why they are doing that.

Did you need to contact riot to get the icon for them? Because It just might be some visual bug, I'm fairly sure they still have those stats.

Breaking promises is nothing new to Riot, but essentially telling players not to play a game mode isn't quite as common. Though, it seems more common this season.

Yes and no? I contacted Support before the icon distribution, and it worked out fine. Definitely not just a visual bug, as even Support was telling me that I had 0 wins. I saw RiotRival hanging around the Dominion chat trying to help out people too.

Not sure how breaking a promise is different from lying, if anything, isn't it the same thing but worse?

Besides I'm kind of inclined to think solo q was a lie from day 1(cause it was obvious that it will backfire hard if implemented, something I was looking forward to), and also there are occasional patch notes where you go "no way someone is actually stupid enough to believe this".

Breaking a promise (e.g. ranked Dominion, solo queue, Magma Chamber v2, etc.) could be the result of changing circumstances (i.e. "We thought it'd work out, but it's not going well."). Lying would be more along the lines of intentionally misleading players. Publically telling players that ranked TT isn't competitive is closer to "Don't play that game mode because we still don't know what we want to do with it."

So how exactly did they fix it? did they just take your word for it?

Absolutely no clue. Support claimed they'd be able to find the stats after Dominion was shut down, but not before then. I probably lucked out, since I had Dominion wins in my online match history to prove that I was definitely missing game stats.

If you think circumstances might change don't make the promise, anyway, what do you think changed that made riot make 7800 ip prices champions aside from "we figured we can get more money this way", same for limited skins.

But besides, I don't think saying TT isn't competitive is lying.

Why only list the bad things? If it's what happened this season I love the rotating gamemodes, the new items, and I am happy with the new support items <3

Keevalroy3 votes

You're right, this should be somewhat neutral.

The rotating game modes are good, yes. I highly disagree that the new items introduced this season are a welcome sight though, except for the sup items so you can actually have 4 wards again. In terms of champion design, Riot is learning that not everything has to be overloaded to hell and back and / or unnecessarily convoluted to be fun to play - Sol and Taliya are a testament to that. I'm not seeing anything else.

Note that I'm not including art, story, or sound in this because this has to do with gameplay. They're doing great.

I love these "congrats riot, you suck" post. I see several every hour that are pretty much identical to this one. Two trends I've noticed about this forum community :

  • Complain about anything or everything Riot does (change or the lack of change)
  • Very vocal and immature, but a minority of the player base

Most players don't even check these forums, but they still play. I played for a year and didn't start coming here until the past couple of months to read about some patch notes. Of the dozen or so friends I have in real life that play this game regularly none of them read the forums. They just don't care that much and most of them are anything but casuals.

Most of the threads headline their argument with something like "Hey Riot, how does it feel to let down millions of players on a consistent basis?". I'm not a fan of DQ but in what world is that well presented or constructive? There's an insane amount of bitching on this board, and 1 in 50 threads actually present a solution to the DQ dilemma in a semi-intelligent way. There's absolutely no possible way Riot can have a discussion about this issue when all players do it tell them how awful it is; they already know ffs.

Not every player is going to write a dissertation on how Riot completely betrayed them. Some players can and will do that, some players can't.... some just don't want to... some of them are just going to say "FXXX you I'm going to Overwatch", this is still very important because it is showing the (Rightful) outrage by the community after being betrayed by Riot Games.

Do you even statistics? Do you even basic understanding of community?

If I were a major Riot guy, I'd be making sure heads rolled for this debacle.

Elikain2 votes

My basic understanding of this community is that they are writing in an unmoderated boards or very loosely moderated one where you won't be forced to communicate under the rules but you're free to express yourself however you want.

some of them are just going to say "FXXX you I'm going to Overwatch", this is still very important

This is literally the most useless feedback i've ever seen and every comment like this. You haven't explained anything, you've just came to shitpost and you called it a day and patted yourself on the back. If you don't know how to leave feedback, leave it to the people who know how to.

Don't shit where you eat. Except that everyone did do just that and are now wondering why does Riot not listen to player feedback and when i look around - there's just a pile of shit and without a diamond in sight. PBE and the boards exist for feedback purposes and having discussions and the community decided to turn PBE into a skin shop of "i don't have a skin on my real servers so i'll just go masturbate on my PBE account" and boards into their personal tumblr shitposting pages.

Too bad you don't really know how to give feedback or else this might not have been a clusterfuck of weak-willed hypocrites who claim that they are leaving the game forever, only to go back on their word, play a few games and then be back tomorrow.

1- No, it is not useless. It is expressing extreme dissatisfaction with the decisions Riot is making. 2- Not every comment is like that. 3- Even if every comment was like that, that would still be extremely useful feedback. 4- Do you even know what "feedback" means?

Alright guy, you parading around here looking like a pseudo intellectual is triggering me hardcore.

You are jumping on anyone who say anything against the "feedback" to the DQ issue. I've posted in countless threads already, but I'll do it here too. DQ has it's flaws, but the problems people speak about like being matched against a premade as a solo player or long queue times are almost entirely exclusive to higher elo players; the 1%. This is backed up by statistics that riot posted in their news report on the subject, though I'm willing to bet most people just saw the first paragraph and went straight to the comments, not even watching the video. Real grievances to have with DQ would be that the variance of players and teams in the same queue hurts competition and devalues individual accomplishment in the ranked ladder, however this is fixable without simply reinstating solo queue.

Really though, the people against it are the vocal minority through and through. These threads don't even get 1k upvotes, and the dislikes on the video are currently 19k to 6k likes. These may seem like large numbers, but realize that League is the biggest game in the entire world, spanning millions of players. I would be disappointed to find out that such a small part of the playerbase is in control of such a large game.

Everyone hates him, and for exactly the same reason as Fizz/Yas/Zed: bullshit invincibility with a duration that's a significant chunk of a team-fight, on an absurdly short cooldown, that occurs at the push of a button without requiring any kind of skill or foresight to set up.

I don't know if he's technically classed as an assassin, but it's the only thing anyone uses him for in team phase and most of how he's played as a jungle...

I'm not gonna say anything about DQ because I really don't care, but 1 and 2 make no sense. For 1, Riot made none of those champs in S6, nor did they rework any of them recently. Two of them have been recent problems due to item synergy (Ekko), the way random games are (Zed), and general meta favoring (Both), but the other two are just permanently annoying and permanently popular. And as for 2, neither normal Dominion nor Hide and Seek were really that fun, imo. People who played either was a huge minority of the playerbase, and I can understand Riot's decision to remove it and put a better version on the Featured Game Mode rotation instead.
