Riot, if you every look at Sona for another gameplay update...
...please take Warframe's Octavia into consideration for an idea of what we want for Sona.
There typical method of creating a musical character is to make them play like a D&D Bard, dealing primarily in buffs to their allies. The old Sona was like this, and as a result was overly simple and filled with hidden power.
Octavia doesn't do this. In the pre-game, you can create a "Song", which you can "Dance" to in game by performing certain actions. Those who dance to the music correctly gain buffs (Speed for jumping, invisibility for crouching, multi-shot for ranged attacks, damage for melee attacks). This is incredible, since the Octavia player feels like they're composing a song while the team feels like they're in a dance party.
There's a lot of room for skill expression here, too. Low level Octavias can have slow, simple songs that have downtime but are easier to dance to. High level Octavias can have fast, complex songs that have 100% uptime on all buffs but require a lot of skill to dance to.
