(No salt intended) So... can someone explain the difficulty of Riven to me?

I ain't tryin to make some snarky comment on how Riven is "easy" or whatever. I'm genuinely curious about the ins and outs of the champion. I mean yeah, she looks easy, but so does doing a back flip on a trampoline (which I can't to for whatever reason). And I'd test it myself, but

A) I've never played this champion. Not even when she's free. I don't really play free champions for whatever reason. Unless I already own them, in which case I lack a choice in the matter.

and

B) I don't wanna play this champion, go in thinking its super easy and I'm going to steam roll the enemy, then proceed to find out that its harder than it looks, feed and look like a six pack of stupid.

So yeah, if someone would be so kinda as to explain Riven to me, maybe gimme some advice? Because I wanna get her next (she looks like fun, and the Arcade skin tho), and I wanna be sure I know what I'm doing when I get her. Thanks in advance and all that good noise.

Contrary to popular belief, Riven is an easy to learn hard to master champion.

Her "Q" movement is weird, as it doesn't work like a normal skillshot. People can easily fuck up her combo doing this. Animation cancelling is another skill you need to learn to fully unlock her power. Making her easy to learn is the reason she is so infamous, basic combos and knowledge allow you do destroy your lane opponent most of the time.

It's also super easy too fuck up her combo, It's not until you get to upper ELO where mistakes are not as forgiving so only the Mastered Riven players thrive there, BoxBox, Best Riven NA, etv.

TL;DR Easy to Learn hard to master.

There is really only 2 mechanics that are difficult

  1. Fast q combo
  2. Decision making and positioning (probably one of the biggest contributor to her high skill cap).

Certain wall hops are very difficult, as well as some other animation cancels, but realistically those can be mastered through a few hours of practice at most. In general, Riven is 'hard' because her high level mechanics have a barrier to entry no other champion does. She can still do fine in lower level games even without them, however.

Landing her combos is tricky at first. She requires patience and timing cause she's an all-in champ so you misstep or dance too far towards your enemy, you're gonna get rekt. Also using her ult effectively takes some practice.

AA cancels. Just like how Darius's only real skill move is being able to time your AA cancels with your combo to get an instant 3 bleed stacks.

But that's it.
