...if you just let him win, then he becomes stronger in your mind than he is in reality.

As soon as you start thinking that he's beatable, then you just nerfed him with your own intelligence.

The best counter to him is not giving up. Well, and get armor while you're at it. Even if you're playing ADC you can still get IBG.
