This is a misconception. Supports can carry, with vision control and kill setups, good picks and objective control. Top laners can carry with massive objective control, just watch duke at worlds. The other roles are more self explanatory. If you don't think your role can carry you don't know it well enough.

most people that need to carry their teams are bronze, not being rude but that's just how it is, myself included, that being said, at a bronze-silver elo people don't know how to follow up for kills or take advantage of vision provided by the support unless it's still landing phase and they are about to get ganked
