How do you beat Riven in lane?

Riven without a doubt is one of the most frustrating champions to play against soley because she doesn't use mana and is resourceless.

I can't seem to beat riven when she does her animation canceling. It makes her extremely strong. It seems that i can only beat riven if the player doesn't know how to animation cancel. Riven is way too oppressive when she's ahead. She has all the tools that she needs for top lane.

It's pretty annoying that she has a strong early and a strong late game. What do you guys think?

i main riven across 2 different servers and 5 different accounts. every laner i go against makes the same mistake. that mistake would be not respecting my early game spikes. when i hit level3 before u, back the fuck off. i just played a diamond 5 ranked game vs an ekko where i hit level 3 and immediately i jumped on him for first blood. respect that if u dont have ignite or whatever, you cant fight me when i have ulti up. unless your irelia. irelia ryze gnar and garen are the reason why riven cuts and crys every day. these champions no matter how broken they are can still be beaten tho. if you can go aggro early you win. so basically if your playing these 4 champs be care of my aggro positioning and just do what you want in the back. dont walk up to me and expect me to let it go. if u see a riven being played in draft mode go vs her as your main champ. even though riven can shit on said champ its great practice. i used to main lee before riven. now that hes useless in this meta, i like to play him top in draft pick vs rivens to see just how good i am vs her. its super easy to predict what she does. and there you go. proof that im not a dumass : http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=blackraven http://lan.op.gg/summoner/userName=blackraven http://lan.op.gg/summoner/userName=mcfatal http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=sharmoota http://lan.op.gg/summoner/userName=wr8

I literally had a game where 2 members of my team cursed and bashed someone in champ select for choosing Garen against Riven. We ended up losing the game because those exact 2 people were miserable and mid lost 1v1 Syndra vs TF (idk how) and the other was our jungler and got killed twice in our jungle (Shyvanna vs Evelynn...again idk how). But they spent so much time typing in all chat "GG some people still think Riven dies to silences".....

No Garen was not dominating, because Riven wasn't an idiot, but Riven was pretty much 0/0 for 25 minutes. Nobody noticed. It hurts so bad to play with people so clueless.

Also on a personal note, is Tryndamere's Mocking Shout AoE? Either the slow or the ad reduction? I had a team bash me for picking him into Riven because of the reduction being single target in team fights. I was like...what?

what do u mean by aoe? its not a skillshot or point and click so i guess. also when people pick garen right after i pick riven i legit want to dodge right away. it means i wont be able to snowball and will most likely get raped in lane. which is why i go the farm lane right away as soon as game starts. garen is so stupid right now vs melees. so many anti melee/ad champs in top right nwo its super hard to utilize rivens strenghs without gettin lucky.

Oh by AoE, when he uses it, does it affect anyone in the range of it, or only the closest person? The 80 AD Reduction at lvl 9 is really strong, I wanted to know if he would be viable vs Riven. But doesn't really matter since Garen is so much of a better pick.

i really dont know much about trynd. i only play him in normals. but i think it affects anyone in range of it. prob better if u search it up. also trynd isnt that bad vs riven. if u play it safe and get the first kill you win the lane right from then. or u can play it safe till 6 then go on her when she wastes q. pretty easy lane after frst kill for both sides. as riven if the trynd is ulting i just back away then go back in when its down.

depends on the champion but if riven doesnt get a kill a lot of top laners can fight her at level 6 and win

Garen is the typical recommendation, however as a Garen main since season 1 the main thing I would recommend is exactly what Sharmoota is saying; respect Riven's power spikes.

Garen is no longer a hard counter to Riven, and only acts as one if the Riven is inexperienced. It's a skill matchup leaning in Garen's favor now. Unless you know how to play safe you should pick someone like Irelia or Ryze which are far more forgiving early game against a Riven.

To put it simply if you are prone to making mistakes no amount of silence or spin to win will save you in this matchup.

one thing that can help me beat garen is when he silences then shields then spins on me. after that im free to do what i want. it wouldbe easier if he didnt get the ms boost even after using it for so long but still free damage is free damage.

Renekton stands toe to toe with her in lane, and Rivens tend to struggle in teamfights if not fed.

She relies on getting ahead in lane to be useful in teamfights, so just pick a bully like Renekton, Darius, or Rumble and make her sad in lane and then have a bigger impact in teamfights than she does. Fighting her 1v1 and trying to split push against her is a bad idea.

People always get this weird idea that they need to counterpick Riven by choosing a good duelist and beat her 1v1, but really all you have to do is pick a champion with a strong teamfight that she can't tower dive and you'll be fine. Why duel one of the best duelists in the game? Just teamfight and win the game.
