I'm going to focus on Cassiopeia's Twin Fangs(E)

The focus on her E and the funneling of pretty much all of her power into an up close point and click spell that does literally nothing but damage...may in fact violate the very concept of a poison mage. Typically the archetype is supposed to land their poison (s), and either they a) GTFO if it's 100% damage based or b) if the poison is debilitating, proceed to build up the poison until the enemy is so weak they pose zero threat

Regardless of the style of poisoner that they are, the weakness should always be a direct upfront confrontation. Either the enemy jumps into her face and pounds her down before she can scurry off, or the enemy jumps into her face and pounds her down before she can further debilitate them to the point of helplessness.

Her Twin Fang ability shits on that very weakness. And as you remove such a role-identifying weakness of a concept, you in turn must break away from the concept in order to find balance.

Theoretically speaking, her Twin Fangs E could have served a purpose as a defensive last resort effort to defend herself if the enemy gets too close to her (you know...like snakes in real life). But that is the best case scenario for her to stay consistent with her archetype, as when you make her E a 100% damage point and click ability, there's not much you can do with it is there? That is where making her E consisting of 99% of her kit falls apart.

Now as for the purpose of that picture. That's what a Twin Fangs (E) Cassiopeia is reflecting.

And if she isn't a poison mage...then why the hell do you base her off a snake and gave her an appearance and personality that screams poison using harlot?

If she isn't a poison mage, what was she supposed to be? What about her appearance exactly screams marksmen?

that picture tho... hella creepy.

It kills me how people only focus on her OP gameplay and never on her identity as an entire character consisting of lore, look, and voice overs. Her kit at it's current state does not mesh with everything else that makes Cassiopeia Cassiopeia. From a lore standpoint, she's a crafty, back line Noxian who never engages up front, like her sister. Cassiopeia sets up machinations and watches them work, striking when the moment is right (as with Sivir). Every bit of Cassiopeia's current and past voice over inclines her use and dependence on poisons as her main tool of her art. Never once does she say "I get them poisoned and then repeatedly stab them to death," nor does she imply that she resort to anything as overt as flat out casting spells to outright destroy people. Instead, for her, its all about the lingering death of poisons and toxins. An AP Rambo mage is fine as a concept, but like the dinosaur planet being crammed into a Starfox game, its an idea that is awkward and out of place on Cassiopeia. As I have been saying since this rework's ugly, rushed release to live, Cassiopeia should have just been broken down and rebuilt to fix her problems, not shifting the focus in her kit to the piece that doesn't mesh with what she is.

Her sister is Katarina. Katarina is definitely a front-line fighter. Yeah, maybe she never starts the teamfight on her own, but she's definitely there to do the dirty work with her own hands. I don't think of Cassiopeia that way.

The rest of your post, though, I agree with.

In one of her quotes she proves that she is different that Katarina. -Violence solves everything -Violence is so messy Things happen differently at the Black Rose, at the Du Couteau house and outside of those places.

Oleandervine2 votes

So how exactly does Kat thinking violence solves everything while Cassiopeia thinking violence is messy support the AP gun mage role for Cassiopeia? If anything, it reinforces that Cassiopeia prefers to poison and wait.

Maybe she wants to stay away, deal damage only from range with her tolls. She hove some soft cc and a movement speed steroid. Cutting down someone with weapons and watch them bleed out is rather the messy part. Non of Cassio's spells involve that, just body fluid and the FANGS. So much fangs :D Overall, it doesn't mean that she wants to avoid every form of violence. The longer you face this snake, the less chance you have to come out on top, which should be the way how you deal with the mythological creatures she resembles.

I have never seen Cass as a poison mage. I always thought the Twin Fang style was better for her stabbing people in the back.

...how?!

Cassiopeia supposed to have tools what Medusa and Gorgon mythological creatures had. Her damage output is split into two phases: Land her ultimate if available and/or needed, land a poison, than "jump" onto the target and keep attacking it. It could be told that her twin fang makes her poison go deeper into her targets skin, not sure if that would be the better choice for her damage values, but no, there is not much poison involved in the latter process. F'k off Ginga, Teemo is the poison mage, that's it!

They are explicitly moved away from Cassiopeia's poke pattern, which they think, must not involve any options with high base damage on her Q and W, and this is what we got. I did not see a single serious point in Cassiopeia complaint threads, any great suggestion around these lines about what they should do with her, so she does not stands to be specifically game breaking, her abilities are not perfectly fitting to her theme, but not a big problem. She will be fine for a long while hith these quality of life changes.

As for those who are willing to see the brighter side, we finally have a champion in the game who is capable of dealing sustained MAGIC damage. Point and click damage output is not that much of a concern, marksmen always did that and with the addition of rework Cassiopeia, a mage can also do that. Her AoE and DoT damage dealing spells are no longer her main damage source. Other champions can do that better.

I can't stand this much bullsh!t. This is how much it is worth replying to a hater favored thread.

I'm just genuinely curious if you found that image on the Internet or made it yourself. Both have some rather unsettling implications.

(I agree with your statement, though).

I handled a lot of snakes in real life.

When you spend so much of your life handling them, you tend to research into their behavior and biology out of fascination. For some reason I also came upon a bunch of random ass images of snakes that I also found funny. Who knew it'd come in handy?

PS - I wasn't kidding when I said a snake's fangs are it's last resort. If you got one of them to bite you, you had to have shit the bed pretty hard to get it to resort to using it's fangs.

HandheldBrandon4 votes

Its not only their defensive mechanism its also their primary and only way of injecting their venom into their prey. How many fuckign snakes do you know that shoot poison out there ass then go in for the kill.

None they strike first and fast and depending on the type of snake they either wait for their prey to die or they crush them.

5G8Nri0B547 votes

Well...there's the cobra...

They don't puff out poisonous gas, hence why Cassiopeia is a poison mage first and foremost and not some "snake mage" people keep trying to call her. And how many snakes fire off their fangs like a machine gun?

It would be awesome if her passive was that targets she poisons remain debuffed in some way until they die. then she gets a lot more benefit out of poisoning a target and walking away. which is just so different from every other playstyle that it would be very refreshing.

Also it would encourage playing much more aggressively against her once you're poisoned. And it would be fantastic at shaking up counterplay options.

5G8Nri0B544 votes

Yeah I suggested that in the past.

It'd be like a reverse of what her current Passive is.

My fan made version: Deadly Cadence: When Cassiopeia kills a unit, she gains a stack of Deadly (max 3). Her next spell that hits a champion will consume one stack of Deadly and place it on the champion (once per spell, does not have a timer). Cassiopiea's poisons on Champions with Deadly will last an additional second for each Deadly stack on the champion. When an enemy champion reaches 3 stacks, the stacks will begin fading away, taking 5 seconds after which all 3 stacks are removed. During the 5 seconds, Venomous Strike will refresh on striking the unit.

Venomous Strike: Cassiopeia lunges a short distance, dealing damage to the first unit struck. If the unit is already poisonsed, Cassiopeia will dash to her original location, charming the unit. If the unit is not poisoned, Cassiopeia poisons it and she gains bonus movespeed.

Caustic Venom: Cassiopeia spits caustic venom at a direction. The ground becomes corrupted and deal damage to units in it as the AoE increases. Units that take damage from this poison will continue taking damage after leaving. Units hit by the initial blast are blinded for 1 second.

Aspect of the Serpent: Cassiopeia commands a snake to a target location. The snake will bite the first target it sees, prioritizing champions, and poison the unit. If the snake bites a poisoned target, this spell is refreshed.

Petrify: Cassiopeia's gaze for the next 10 seconds will place stacks on units that face her. Units facing Cassiopeia will gain a stack of Stone every .5 seconds and on the third stack, the unit(s) will be stunned and dealt damage. Cassiopeia's spells will deal true damage instead of magic damage to petrified units.

Link to another thread about Cassio's poision mage identity

Twin Fangs itself is missing her theme even more than the stacking passive Stashu gave her... Well, I offered a solution to this in the linked thread.

'also posts this to keep this thread here bumped because the OP is totally right'

I'm curious to know what players in other servers think about this new Cassiopeia. What do the Chinese and Korean players think?

Cass is a snake mage not a poison mage. If she was a poison mage she would have a poison related playstyle, not poison enemy then fang them to death playstyle. Even before the rework her playstyle Snakelike more than Poisonlike, its just her poison was most of her power budget for some reason.

Awoof2 votes

What about 'repeatedly hammering fangs into your enemy' is snakelike?

5G8Nri0B542 votes

I'd welcome a snake mage as the concept would be cool as hell. But if Cassiopeia truly was one, then she is easily one of the shittiest and most half-assed attempts I have ever seen. It'd be a failure at a level similar to Zilean being a "time mage".

Her entire approach contradicts being a snake mage almost just as much as it contradicts a poison mage. What about biting a single target multiple times like a machine gun makes her a snake?
