My opinion on Xerath in his current state in the meta.

Fun as fuck.

If you guys haven't tried playing Xerath already, I really do recommend it. The new frost queen's synergizes so well with his ultimate it just gives me goosebumps. Wait for the ghosts to climb to the enemy, then shoot all 3 ultimates off as they are moving at a crippling 20% MS or whatever it is.

The new blue trinket also works wonders with Xerath's kit.

And if you are worried about the frost queen's nerf, don't be. Going from 60s to 90s does not hurt Xerath, as he primarily only needs it for his ultimate to finish people off. This might in some ways help even, cause now alot of other champions besides you won't be abusing it as much. Thunderlord's nerf will not do much against Xerath either, as he does not typically proc Thunderlord's easily in the early game anyways. Infact, it helps for the most part, because the main use of Thunderlord's on Xerath is gonna come into play later in the game when hes able to easily and efficiently land a E-W-Q on an opponent through the fog of war.

My only recommendation is to make sure Rengar and Zed are banned. Rengar will be getting nerfed too, so he shouldn't be as much of a threat. Talon might be an issue but lets be honest, no one plays talon right now besides Haunt. Fizz can be dealt with very easily, just get barrier and poke him from afar. Every other matchup is easy.

Enjoy your fun freelo boys.

Xerath has been my main since Season 3 and yes he keeps being powerful even when Zeds and Rengars are around...

But he seriously lacks sinergy with Keystones. There is no reason to pick DFT or TLD since the first does unnoticeable damage unless you are fed and hitting lots of ppl (can't even finish off squishies running away at 10% hp without pots). whie TLD forces you to go for the E-W-Q combo if you want to proc it (and even more in 6.2 since the window will be 3 seconds).

Also, new visual for his Ultimate would be welcome.

Edit: I wanted to get the actual post as source. It's a long one but it's on the R paragraph.

"The current version was created for an old iteration of the spell, where there was a constant stream of shots that needed to be toned down because they came down so rapidly."

Personally I think that thunderlords suits him fine. Anytime you land W or E you should be able to proc it with a Q auto - which will also give you almost all of Q's mana cost back. Basically it rewards you for playing xerath well. It also procs on a completely landed ultimate. Basically no reason not to take thunderords.

Except that is really dangerous for Xerath to go in range for AAs against most of midlaners after level 3. I feel like this would be possible if you know you are outskilling your enemy by far because no Zed/Yasuo/Ekko/LB/Azir/Talon/Lux/Malzahar would let you land that for free and all of them need half of your efforts to proc it and trade back. Not to mention that you must be sure that there is no jungler around.

depends on how the lane is going - if you are down you are in trouble on xerath - he's a champ that needs to stay ahead. If you are ahead and you just landed w or e they are stunned or 60% slowed and it's safe to go in for an auto attack. Also - xerath has a pretty good auto range so I tend to harass with it frequently to bait the enemy to engage. I see what you are saying though - there are some champions that you just don't want to bring xerath against. Zed and Ekko are the two main ones I would avoid - you can't get close to them. However - if you are playing xerath right and landing your skills (he is a spam machine) you should be ahead in hp by turning your passives mana gerneation into damage.

The thing is that a Keystone shouldn't be based on outskilling your opponent but as a mean to do it. Also the more it goes on the match the less it gets effective and controllable and that's why I think there should be another Keystone thought for long range/artillery mages (the same way they did with Assassins). In the end it comes as a play style matter too. Usually I'll stay really safe with Xerath and try to force teamfights when I'm ahead so that I can help my team and take my advantage even further. With this DFT becomes relevant if I am successful but that again is a stupid reason to pick a Keystone.

DFT is not that bad. It is way more relevant late game. TLD has a 20 second CD. In that amount of time you ca proc DFT on a champ like ziggs or xerath up to 6 times on more than one champion. So if you are having trouble procing TLD take DFT. Your other option that can work good with xerath is the movement speed keystone to the far left on Intel. Useful to chase down skills and doubles as an escape method anytime you can burst someone.

Keystone- All abilities deal 10% splash damage to nearby enemies, may only stack 5 times.

Ex: Vel Koz lands Q on a minion, 10% of that damage is done to nearby minions. If there are three minions standing in a line and Q hits all 3, all take 120% damage. Hitting 6 grouped minions with a single ability would cap at 150% damage.

This would reward champs with spamable AoE abilities for landing shots on groups of enemies. This effect may be too powerful as a wave clear tool though, in which case 15-20% against champs only would also make sense.

As a Xerath main, I approve this message.

If you are enjoying Xerath, you should pick up my new love Velkoz . I am really enjoying Vel'Koz right now because he procs thunderlords very easily with his spammy nature. Can peel like a boss for himself and his team. And he is a GOD when ahead.

I think right now I like him a little better than Xerath even and mainly due to his insane base damage on abilities and his true damage. With Xerath, if you're not even or ahead, your damage can feel somewhat insignificant. With Vel'Koz, you're true damage passive helps you stay relevant no matter how far behind you might be. Plus your amazing "MY EYE IS A LAZER HUE HUE" ultimate will destroy your enemies even when behind due to it's 900 base dmg at full rank.

I love my boy Xerath and have carried many a game with him, but IMO Vel'Koz is in a better spot atm and worth playing if you like that Siege Mage playstyle :)

I play talon. ): I'm glad he's an underrated assassin, because you don't have to worry about him being banned or locked in by an ally or enemy before you chose him.

I personally can't play Xerath, I always end up canceling his ult accidentally. ;D

Talon main... my bane...

I use xerath as a counter pick and a support. Hes great vs yasuo/lux/leblanc. As a support hes a great counter to almost any mage bot lane - because he WILL out poke anyone. His only real weakness is his abilities are telicasted and have delays. Bot lane though - hiding in the bush it's pretty easy to hit all your spells. Plus Adc that are trying to last hit at also pretty easy targets.
