Why is riven or yas not used in championships?

I'm aware both of these champs are incredibly strong but they need to get fed to be nearly unstoppable....but why are they not in LCS?

To be as blunt as humanly possible, no they aren't that strong, if anything they kinda suck, However they are very mechanical and hard to play champions that give a lot of reward once you are good at them. They are high damage, high mobility, with mediocore cc, which makes them the perfect champion to play in solo.

In solo people are brain dead, they pick whatever champion they want even if it's the worse champion possible for the team.

1-Your team comp Ahri Fiddlesticks Ashe Janna

Janna : we need a tank Teamate: Insta locks Teemo I got you covered

Now champions like Yasuo Riven are free to do whatever they want.

2-Another problem is the fact people in solo often tilt out of control and won't stop feeding even if all they have to do is farm under tower and warn his team when his laner leaves lane. But what happens?

Maokai is 0/2/0 with 75 farm vs Riven who has 100 farm with the score of 2/0/1, what is the bset course of action according to maoki? "ONE V ONE ME BITCH!" announce shouts "an ally has been slain" Riven is now 3/0/1

3-Another major problem? Junglers simply suck dick in low elo

Yasuo can be a HUGE lane bully when mastered, and once he gets a lead he feels impossible to stop in lane..However he can only be a bully if he pushes in his lane..he also lacks escapes, this makes him the easiest champion in the game to gank. Watch the delta fox games and watch the mid laner get destroyed whenever he plays yasuo. It's because he gets camped and also out played. Once yasuo is down he stays down, and has a hard time coming back. If a Yasuo is allowed to bully his laner, the jungler deserves a large part of the blame. It's an easy gank, but the jungler for some reason chose not to take it.

TLDR

1-People play stupid team comps that allow riven and fiora to snow ball 2-People willingly feed those champions 3-Junglers do little to nothing to help.

i take offense to your comment as a maokai main who has shit on and branched slapped riven all over the lane...

other then that for the most part agree

nothing against maoki, i just wanted to put down a mainstream champion everyone sees in top lane, be weird if i put janna wouldn't it?

It gave me 'Nam flashbacks

Pros know how to beat them. They provide very little to team composition, and those players can shut them down easily. Also, Riven and Yas are strong, but they're not as strong as the 15-or-so champions you see picked all of the time in LCS.

Pros know not to bitch non-stop about Yasuo, unlike a large part of the community.

They are used.... You just did not watch all the games apparently.

Metas shifted away from them but they do get use when it shifts towards them.

It's been years since either of them was meta in competetive. Riven was "viable" in season 5 world championship although she certainly was no top tier pick and generally was just a worse Fiora. Yasuo has been used occassionally in the past as a counter to certain champions by some people who have a strong preference for splitpushers.

But neither were actually meta defining in a long time.

Riven not good in the LCS period. Just easy to play around. You may see Yasuo once in a blue moon, but not Riven.

Hey, but Fiora gets played here and there!!!

Actually Riven was played way more than Yasuo over the years in competitive. The reworked Fiora is still popular. Check http://www.gamesoflegends.com to see stats for the different seasons.

But not recently. S7: Riven 5 games played (0% presence) S6: Riven 5 games played (0% presence) S5: Riven 40 games played (4% presence) S4: Riven 16 games played (4% presence) S3: Riven 3 games played (7% presence)

Yasuo has more picks and bans in season 5 than Riven overall in all seasons combined - and also more picks&bans in the most recent seasons. So I really wonder what you are talking about..

If Riven doesn't get ahead she's useless, and while Yasuo can catch up and hyperscale, games don't always last long enough for him to do so.

You guys all give valid points, but is their team-fight really that bad? I'm highly positive if faker used Riven or Yas on the last game of championships I'm highly positive he can hyper carry the game if he gets enough kills

Yes they are.

Riven is a melee squishy champ with only form of defense being a self shield + her mobility, all of that is rendered useless in team fights and she can die in a single cc duration late game, against coordinated teams the moment riven goes in she gets exhausted and cced/focused and then she'll either die or be forced to leave the fight, shes just too telegraphed for her to be able to actually reach and kill backlines in competitive.

Even in high elo, its hard to team fight as riven but its easier to get flanks off, pretty much the only time riven is a decent team fighter is only when she has her flash and her ult which means she can actually reach squishier targets and combo them, that is if she doesnt get exhausted.

Basically she has too much counterplay against coordinated teams for her to be any good in competitive, doesnt help her lanes arent very favorable most of the time either and she cannot do anything when behind.

would it be better if she went full Tank and cc'd their whole team to death?

Mysticman893 votes

Riven has a short ranged highly telegraphed knockup, and a practically melee range short duration stun. There are far far better champions to pick if you just want to be a full tank cc machine.

Doozku3 votes

You'd rather pick other champions in that case. There are a million other champions who can do that but better.

TakeAGuessNerd1 votes

Then she'd lack damage, in which it's better to play an actual tank that takes more damage and have more reliable CC. Not saying that riven's cc is bad, but she needs to be close and she's not too tanky, while tanks can go in and don't have to worry that much.

TakeAGuessNerd1 votes

Their teamfight aren't that bad, but there are better and more reliable options; especially in a more coordinated environment.

Riven was used at worlds in season five, was quite a sight to see really. Seeing Smeb play riven in pro matches was legit

Sir Dark Rabbit1 votes

too risky honestly

Akali is SO HOT1 votes

Pro players aren't bronzelords so they know how to play against Riven and Yasuo. They come out in games as pocket picks sometimes, but they are by no means strong in pro play.

FantasySniper1 votes

They are - albeit rarely - picked in the LCS. Just as recently as the spring/summer split, Yasuo had a presence in 24 games and Riven 5 games out of the total 227 games. Yasuo went positive in 5 out of 8 of his games, and Riven 3 out of 5 of hers.

Yasuo isn't bad at all top-lane, so it's mostly picks like Camille, Galio, and Maokai keeping him out of meta. Riven, on the other hand, has it much worse. She's very feed or famine. Playing from behind gives her no presence in teamfights.

Jamenawerl1 votes

They require a lot of gold and they are easily ganked if they play aggresive. In coordinated play its easier to exploit these weaknesses comunicating with the jungler and revolving teams around the carries.

They arent weak by any means, but casual/yoloQ league has NOTHING to do with pro/competitive league, even at the highest elos.

MoldyCheese11 votes

honestly, yasuo isnt worth a ban hes bad right now, but people just dont like to fight him because he just has things they can complain about, i can be playing someone like Ryze or Twitch and not care about a yasuo. because unless hes fed or just super late game, if i dont pull full retard and walk next to a minion wave or walk into melee range to fight him, hes not scary

Targon1 votes

I think one of the reasons why Riven isn't picked too often is because she only has flat damage in her kit. All of the other toplane fighters tend to have either true damage, % health damage, or some resistance shred - so building against Riven's flat damage is usually pretty easy.

They're not incredibly strong at all compared to Cho and Maokai... They're just sub optimal
