I mean, the top Irelia player rushes BotrK and not T-Force anyway. T-Force is situational, and always has been. Don't be rushing T-Force when you're being camped. It doesn't provide any sustain. The active from Bilgewater Cutlass can help you escape jungle ganks/dives, and the lifesteal can help you stay at high hp so it's harder to gank you. That sustain plus leveling her W will prettymuch keep you out of 2-man gank hp range. T-Force offers none of this.

Tri-Force always offered the most burst with a rage passive that allowed you to stick on your opponents long enough to get the most out of your W. It was the first item for Irelia for a long time.

Patch 5.22 knocked the AS on Tri-Force from 30% to 15% and removed AP altogether, which brought forth the era of First Item Guinsoo Irelia. Guinsoo was cheaper and had decent AD/AP/AS stats, which was more important than starting off with the Sheen burst from a gimped Tri-Force. Still, Tri-Force was a good second item before going full tank.

Then Patch 6.9 destroyed Guinsoo. The 1K extra gold for an item that was not significantly better than the former version was simply no longer worth Irelia's time. Tri-Force was still useful, but BotRK was a decent alternative. Overall... the AS was the better route for laning phase and the added sustain was simply a bonus. The extra passive wasn't bad, since it could be used after a successful E stun. Tri-Force was still a good item for the Sheen, but IBG was a cheaper Sheen item with an Icy Zone at your command and 20% CDR.

Now with 6.11 we get the AS back on Tri-Force. Well... why wouldn't Irelia build this first? Sustain? An active that slows? These things from BotRK already exist in Irelia's kit. For 2150, Irelia could have Stinger (30% AS/10% CDR) and Sheen (100% Spell Blade/250 Mana/10% CDR). Or for 2650, Irelia could have Cutlass (25 AD/10% LS/+100 Dmg/20% MS Red for 2 Sec) and Recurve Bow (25% AS/+15 On-Hit Dmg). That 500 gold difference could either be a Long Sword (15 AD) or Ruby Crystal (150 HP).

I know you want to argue sustain, but her kit has quite a bit of that and proper vision with playing properly when you don't have vision should keep you out of 2-Man gank issues. And if you're camped, I don't see why you would ever rush an AA based defensive item over permanent HP.

One of the biggest mistakes is leveling Q for damage. Her strength doesn't only come from her burst early game. It comes from being able to outsustain your opponent without a vamp scepter and using that Q only to last hit. Her damage comes from being able to make trades where she always comes out on top from her W active. Triforce is excellent on her, yes, but if you're leveling Q so you proc Sheen harder, you won't have the sustain that comes from having leveled W first. That's my point. Some games you can just go "T-Force into Tanky," but Botrk while leveling W has been proven by who, I forget his name. One of the I think C9 guys? That is better when leveling W, and they say you should always level your W because nobody can win trades against you.

You don't level Q since you want to maximize your True damage on W. That's why the loss of attack speed on Tri-Force kicked it from being her first item for half a year now.

I honestly have never seen Irelia Carries U build BotRK, though I have always considered it a decent item on her.
