[Vision Assists] Granting Partial Assist Credit for Your Vision Control

Twisted Fate. Nocturne. Scrying Orb. Wards.

Vision control is an integral part of a successful game; sometimes far more important than any single carry on your team. But giving that vision doesn't have any direct incentive if you weren't there to be part of the fight no matter how much your 4 wards played a part in that ace.

I'm here to simply propose that they do grant you assists, in a fashion. The concept is simple; if an ability or item of yours grants vision of the enemy, they will be tagged for a Vision Assist that last the same length as an Assist and is granted on their death. Vision Assists will not be worth a whole assist, but after a few (let's say, 3) Vision Assists you will be granted 1 normal plain everyday Assist. These imo wouldn't need to be tracked on the scoreboard (only in the Match History details), you'll just see your Assist count go up every third VA and on the kill announcement your portrait will have either an eye icon or a special border so you can see it happen.

This would merely be to promote use of vision-only abilities and items, so they grant a tangible reward to those who always help their team through vision control but simply aren't there for a fight they actually were central to winning.

Honestly, I thought this was already in the game...

It's kind of sad that it isn't, since vision plays an extremely crucial role to success.

I am not sure.

I worry that some people would just throw wards down to ensure they got an assist. Or they might save their trinket in case they got to a fight late.

What happens when two wards overlap or vision is granted in a place vision already existed? There are many details that need to be sorted out first.

I figure there will be some that just toss their ward down only when they get to a fight to ensure an assist, but most of the time if they are close enough for ward vision then they are close enough to actually do something else to get a regular assist (and actually dropping a ward in a bush in the middle of a fight is often a deciding factor in a close duel, as losing sight of the enemy gives them a big advantage).

All in all, I'd say using them greedily to get "vision assists" is actually the purpose of the proposal, being an incentive for people that don't drop many now on their own and rewarding those who are already good at it (Support mains and those that upgrade to Greater Vision Totem early).

For the overlapping vision part, I left that info out for no particular reason, but my idea was that there is nothing special about it; if 2 people get vision that results in a kill in time for a "Vision Assist", they both get credit. No reason to split the credit or give it to only one; sometimes you double ward on purpose (a pink you know they'll see, with a green that they won't even think to sweep for) or on accident (we've all dropped wards at the same time in the same spot as another person), or one is about to time out so you put another as you leave the area.
