Every game seems one-sided .. no really like EVERY game.

Hey all ,

So I've noticed something since I've been playing in this new preseason, every single game has been one-sided. I hear this all the time, and I usually think it's over exaggerating because I agree that some games are one-sided, but I've always still had some great games that get down to the wire and were decided based on a good pick, or someone mechanically outplaying in a big fight, or some decision making with a quick baron call, etc.. but I have literally been recording the past 15 games I've played (on another account, gold 2 rated) and 15 out of 15 games were one-sided, win or lose. EVERY GAME!!!

I really try to look at the bright side of most situations in my life, but I just can't find these games fun anymore. One thing that I've always enjoyed about this game, is that laning phase doesn't decide the game. You always know in the back of your mind, that later on in teamfights or from good calls, you have a chance to come back, which gives you the drive and motivation to keep your head up and keep playing, and having that drive turns losing games into games that are still fun and enjoyable (most of the time they are even more fun than just stomping your opponent from the 5 min mark)

Why would Riot ever think this is a better approach to a game like this? Like I said I've played 15 games in a row and recorded how they all went, just so I had something to support my argument. 14 out of the 15 games, the team who got the first 2 turrets, won the game. The one game where this didn't happen, my team got our 2nd tower about 1 minute after they got their 2nd, and after we got our 2nd tower, the snowball began. Maybe I have the worst luck in history, cause 15 games really is a lot of games in league.. but judging by the posts, I'm not alone on this feeling.

The thing that drew me to this game was the huge fights that would actually end with 1 or 2 people alive, and the unpredictable outcomes of each game. I'm really depressed that the game has turned into a snowball fest every single game, and there's no mystery anymore. I've even noticed more annoyed angry players who give up because frankly when you lost your inhib at 14 minutes, what can you really do? Defend your base while they go grab the rift/baron and they 5 man another lane against your 4 people (while one is still defending the missing inhib lane).. it's sad. This approach might work better for other games, but League of Legends needs to be a longer game, it only makes sense on how it was designed (there's champs that are only supposed to be good past 30 minutes!!)

Anyway, I would love to hear everyone's opinions on this issue. Do you like the shorter games? Are you still having great games? Please let me know!

TL:DR- After recording 15 games, every single game was one-sided. This is very unenjoyable for a game like League, considering some champs and items are meant to be good after 25-30 minutes of the game. Also it feels like laning phase decides the game, and that is one thing I've always been afraid of happening. The mystery and excitement is gone , or is barely there.. and since the beginning of season 7, it just seems to get worse and worse.

Ok sure but why11/15/2017, 11:41:34 PM64 votes

This is the only reason I hate playing against a Pantheon.

Everyone's like, "Oh no, he falls off in the late game!!!"

What late game?

And when Riot makes continuous changes to the game [like buffing Vayne's Q damage for the early game and removing its ability to crit for the late game, giving most bruisers/tanks/mages a decently high amount of base damage with less substantial amount of scaling damage, first tower gold, Rift Herald, the removal of everything crit-related from the new runes, removing critical damage from most assassins who once liked it (Talon, Rengar, etc.) etc.], it shows us just how much they want the early game to mean everything.

I guess they just want LCS matches to have all their Oompth early on so people don't get bored. Gotta rake in that revenue, huh.

That's my biggest issue. Whoever gets a lead can just go in cruise control and win the game, while it takes herculean effort (or a massive throw from the enemy team) to turn back the game.

LoL used to be a tug of war where you had to work hard to get a lead AND to preserve it if you wanted to win the game.

It's just sad to make a mistake once and it costs you the lane/game.

yea it sucks now.... how can u have fun wit a game when as soon as you're getting into it, the other team wins??

I really don't see any way at all to enjoy it anymore

The games aren't one sided silly! You can clearly see that they have 4 sides! https://imgur.com/a/3ezbq

PhearBunny11/16/2017, 12:07:52 AM19 votes

Its because the game is too snowbally. Pick early game champs and you win.

Pick a early game jungler and youre definitely going to win.

Late game champs don't get to reach late game, they are totally irrelevant.

I'm surprised late game champs haven't become obsolete yet. wouldn't be surprised if it happens soon

pokomontis11/16/2017, 1:04:34 AM14 votes

Part of it stems from the matchmaking being really messed up, you have golds or higher against unranked players of course it's going to look like they're intentional feeding. Whoever gets the better smurfs or rank on their team wins F**** everyone else's game. You have so many games decided before the champions are even picked

sry im fed again11/15/2017, 11:38:13 PM13 votes

youre not alone ive been witnessing the same thing and its not fun at all , actually ive played league a lot less because of this nobody wants to be beaten for 15 minutes and vice versa

Granduss11/16/2017, 2:43:13 PM10 votes

Tinfoil hat put on I think the issue is matchmaking. I have long suspected that Riot has an algorythm that controls the winning team. Notice how you win a few games and your feeling good, suddenly you are teamed with people who likely don't know what keyboards are for. The reason for this is to control spiking mmr and ip gains. By intentionally gaming the system they allow players to climb or prevent them from climbing in ranked. Yes I know it sounds very conspiracy theoryish, but it's actually quite sound logic. Why? Because good players are teamed with really bad ones to make the bad ones feel like they have a chance and so that they continue to play and buy skins down the road. But how can a good player teamed with a bad one guarentee a win? Matchmaking them with 2 even worse opponents.

I know this does sound crazy. But look at the players ranks when playing ranked. You will notice that one team clearly seems imbalanced, despite a small shuffle making it more balanced. Yes I know I put a tinfoil hat on, but dammit I want to believe!

I haven't had a real comeback since season 5...

if riot listened to their players , they could easily solve a lot of these problems.. but they don't care so here we are

Preseason.

It's always like this this time of year.

Between genuine imbalances from all the new shit and people being garbage because they're playing new shit, everything tends to be stompy as hell.

i don't remember the last comeback i've ever seen late games never happen

its... so....

its so sad...

i'm always saying "our team scales better maybe we can stal--" and then the nexus explodes

I miss when matches regularly went 30-60 mins a game, non of this 12-25 min bullshit. The game lost it's fun for me, that's why I quit already. League is no fun anymore and riot doesn't see it.

Wráthful11/16/2017, 7:09:45 AM4 votes

Riot games: 1 kill and you already snowballed and won the game gj, towers are still wet papared 4 ppl can dive me on lvl 5 bot lane and take 2 towers by the time we walk down the lane again :D enemies 1,5k gold ahead already in 8 min :P

prestoman11/17/2017, 6:55:40 PM3 votes

I just want to say that I agree with the fact that games are becoming to short. League was meant to be a 30-45 min game where you could come back from a losing lane. I think the real problem is all the stats on items are too high. With all the items getting more powerful than they were means that people with an item advantage have way more power that they did a couple seasons ago.
So if you lose lanning phase, your about 1 full item behind but since items do so much more damage it doesn't matter how good you play the enemy will most likely win in fights if their not stupid. One way to fix this issue would be to decrease all of the items stats by like 15%.

when your11/16/2017, 9:06:42 PM3 votes

I agree. Even before preseason it has been like this, the one team that gets a turret or gets a little far ahead wins regardless of how much you try to outplay someone or try to make a plan. League really isn't fun anymore and I don't think Riot is gonna fix this. It's really sad because I miss the times where you could be losing the entire game, but this one call would turn everything around and make the game so exciting. It has lost all of its features. Everything about this game is coming to an end and becoming something that it was never like before, hell it already has. :/

I actually liked the longer queue times when flex-q hit, games were surprisingly more fair even with the premade shenanigans. At least games could hit late game.

The old Rune pages were designed to encourage (or even force) the player to split their power between attack, defense, and sustain. This meant that a lane that was going poorly still had their armor/MR/mana regen runes to fall back on.

The new rune pages severely punish players for failing to go all-in with min/maxing. If you're a mage, assassin, or fighter, you darn well better take two damage branches that synergize with each other, or else the total value of your runes don't get to multiply with each other and you just lose. This means that the vast majority of solo lanes are all-in on damage

Compounding the issue is the fact that only half of one rune branch is devoted to survival... and even those options just don't work as a secondary rune page (it's all "increase your defenses by a percentage of your defenses," worthless to a control mage or late game marksman). There is no way to be a min/maxed tank because there isn't a second rune branch that assists a tank, and no good way to survive a lane that you anticipate not-winning.

In short, every lane is forced to go all-in, and after that one mandated fight is done, the lane is unsalvageable for the loser. It's not fun for anybody.

Still early game is boring like watching corpse decaying. All thanks to awesome mechanic of 'whack'a'minion'. So much thrill in last hitting that continues for 15 minutes. Woohoo

HowlSpice11/17/2017, 4:30:59 AM2 votes

The game is determined in the first in the 10 minutes. And at 20 its pretty much GG due to snowball effect. If one person messes up and the enemy get fed, then it almost nothing you can do to stop the monster. What is the point even playing.

Stomphiesta That is what we should be calling leagues current meta. Stomp+Fiesta

I agree with you, I have noticed a few flaws in riot's match making system, and they keep claiming nothing is wrong with it, and they constantly update it.

L0LHentaiDotNet11/17/2017, 5:22:30 AM2 votes

For me it isnt so much the games, but in my mind, the new runes give every champion in the game a chance to be broken, but it makes champions that have already proven broken too much stronger. Perfect example: Vayne and Press the Attack. Riot probably have noticed this and are brainstorming a fix, you have to remember that the new runes introduced a lot into the game
